Hello,Thanks that is a very helpful video. where can I get the dimensions for the tone fields end dimpels ?
Thanks for posting that video, very instructive :) What is the reason that you don't like shaping to be done by just pushing out the tonefields and leveling the interstitial to be flat / supporting the tonefields?
I feel like that stresses the material a little too much. I do different things from time to time depending on how the material wants to move but generally, I found this to be the best method when using a shell that I sank myself.
@@jrmhrpr I see, but I don't get what's the difference between self-sunk shell and pre-sunk, like deep drawn shell, in your experience?
@@karoldomanski if I sink a shell myself, I have control over its shape. This means I can start out much closer to my ideal final shape. Notes basically start flat so I don't have to overwork the steel. Drawn shells and the like start very round so more shaping is needed.
@@jrmhrprI imagine that by overworking the steel you mean putting too much stresses to it or pushing it too much, so it gets too thin? I think that while former can be solved with annealing, the latter can be definetely a problem.
Thank you brother! nice work! im from Patagonia - Argentina, Do you teach online?
Have not done anything like that yet.
in the dimple video before you shape dimples the tunefields on the other side are completely flat how do you do that? my first thought is you tape the mold inside and then hammer the shell from outside? am I wrong
Sorry, I'm not fully understanding what you mean? I get them flat and then tape the mold on the inside. Then I hammer the dimple from the outside into the mold. If you are referring to tone field molds, I don't use those. It's all done through shaping.
@@jrmhrpr Oh ok thanks again for answering
Very helpful
that's very kind of you thanks a lot ❤🙏🏻
can you tell me how do you preshape?
I just posted an old video of pre shaping. Hope it helps. 🙏
amazing video ty❤️
Fantastic brother, one of my favorites as well.
Hi thanks for the video Can you tell me where I can purchase the tuning ring that goes around a pan?
That's a tough one. I got one from a friend in northern California but the others, I went to a local fabricator and had them made. If I find a link I'll post it but a local shop is best in my opinion. That way if you need other stuff built, you can get it done locally. Also it's just good to support local businesses where possible.
@@jrmhrpr thank you for the quick response and I appreciate your help
Can you give me the dimensions? And would that be for a 20 inch or a 22 inch dome?
@@khashcpt I use 21" inner diameter.
That's not D4 haha
Thanks for the video :) I have a question: do you fine shape the ding note using this method as well?
It's similar but much harder to do. Since your arms don't have as much support when doing it. I have used many different methods for the ding and still use a combination of these to get my desired result.
@@jrmhrpr hah, I'm still struggling with it. F*ed up 2 good shells because I couldn't stabilize or lower the ding enough. I have to find a way to make strong ding borders. I'll appreciate any tips :)
@@karoldomanski It's not really about strong borders. It's mostly about how much compression is in the note and how you handle it. Lots of great builders don't make borders at all. I could better help if you send me a video of the problem you are dealing with.
@@jrmhrpr My reasoning was exactly that: the membrane was not stable, because the structure couldn't hold the compression, therefore I should make a stronger borders. I'm curious about your approach, I'll try to send you a video if I'm stil with this problem on the next shell. Many thanks :)
Love your work ❤ Im a noobe at thr job just strart tuning do you have any advice for me it means a world to me if you can say what should i go at first or what should i looking at first like what is my mindset should be or any other advices that can help me You are amazing at what you do Wish you a very good luck Tnx 🙏🏻❤

Beautiful..
😮 Those are some LOW clouds!!!
We saw a few funnel clouds too! Might be the first time ever in this area. Crazy!
@@jrmhrpr … Yep …. 🎶 The times they are a changin’” 🎶. Check out the seaweed blob … half the width of the United States that’s heading to our Florida coast …on my side!!! Should be here in July…..Ugh!!! Big sigh….oh well….wishing you a good week Jeremy! 🥰……🛸🎶….🦋

I would love to have that instrument but just can't afford it. Sounds great, it will sure make someone happy.
Thanks bro! We can work on a payment plan if you want? 😉
I just digged this video after many years, thanks for sharing :) Do you still use this method? I was wondering if you use double-sided tape put between shell and mold?
Yes, I still use predominantly the same method. I usually have a family member come and help me for the 20 or so minutes that it takes. At least after I have them all taped on.
@@jrmhrpr Thanks, but my question is: do you tape it also from underneath the dimple? (with double-sided tape) Or do you just tape sides of the dimple to the shell with "L" shaped tape?
@@karoldomanski Oh, sorry about that.. Yes, I put a single layer of the same tape under it. I only do it because sometimes it would get so sharp that it would cause the edge of the dimple to crack. Not sure if I was doing it back then but I do now.
@@jrmhrpr yeah, that's my experience too! I cracked 2 previous shells that way :( now I'm trying to find a reliable way to protect from that. Rounding edges of dimples is also important, but CNC rounding is sooo expensive. So I'm trying to do it with Micromot tool. By the way - what lathe did you use to make those heads? I've ordered Golconda rammer with heads from Panmaker, but they are different, so I guess I'd have to make ones like yours. Is that your recommendation?
@@karoldomanski I use a mini machine lathe for my heads. I also remove the rubber from the included rubber butt and thread them to whatever size. If you would like to talk more in depth, email me at jrmhrpr78@gmail.com and I can help you out with advice or whatever.
Jist started trying to Learn Malte Maten's song today. Go easy on me. Haha
Good job, brother in hammer! And wishing you a happy birthday!
Thanks a bunch! 🤙
Nice video bro.. i want to try and make one my self , i have abit of exprience making things. but i guess the tuning is the real art of making. i like the idea that you preshape it .might make thing abit easier.
Such patience!
Sounds great but we can all agree the dog is the best part.
I can't believe this hasn't been sold yet. Beautiful.
Me too.. I'm not super disappointed because I love playing it but sad it hasn't found its home yet. 😔
Nice. I love mine.
Do you have a video of the step after this or rough tuning? I'm at this stage and I have no clue what to do next.
How do you determine the placement of the tonefields? thanks.
It's really about feel. Everyone had their preferred distance away from the rim and such. Sorry if that doesn't answer your question very well.
Super troopers
Hello friend can i ask you, which app do you use. Where i can download it?
I use Linotune. linotune.com/
I can do it somewhat
Thank you for sharing. With regard to tuning, what is achieved by using the different hammers?
Honestly for me it's more about minimizing dents. The rubber hammer seems to move the whole note plane more while the metal hammer moves more of the spot I'm hitting. Hope that makes sense. 🙏
And, at 4:28, what are you looking for, or at? It's such a cool process.
@@peteralexanian1460 Just checking the vertical axis to make sure it's even. I don't want one side higher than the other.
Nice exhibition of patience sir, I commend you.
Yes!! Love your work
Thanks a bunch! I love doing it! 😀
What tonal purpose do the dimples serve?
It helps keep the partials in place and softens the overall tone. Otherwise it would be blarey like a steel pan.
I love this. Absolutely stunning instrument and composition while there’s dogs and phones going off 😂
Very nice! Lol, the dog just wants to play man.
She never, ever stops bro.. haha. She is rat terrier mixed with border collie. That equals out to the most hyper active dog on the planet, I guess.. Love her to death but she can be several hand fulls. 😉
Sounds beautiful.
Thanks Cathy! I really like this one too. 😀
A beauty brother! Sounds great on the ember as well!
God's artwork. Incredible bro.
Beautiful!
A beauty! :)
Gracias desde Argentina

Something magical about this one.. resonates
Ya, it is crazy how clear all the partials are. Really loved playing it before it found it's home. Thanks!
