what happened to the soy-sauce/oriental flavor top ramen?? havent been able to find it for a few years now. My favorite was to mix it with peanut butter powder for the best backcountry peanut noodles 🍜

We're unsure, but something definitely changed in the market. Even this vegetarian version had beef extract in it, so be sure to check your labels!

just found this video- very helpful to show kids we are teaching, but the site that already exists is a bit too close to water. Either way, wish more videos like this existed to help teach new campers/backpackers who are visual learners. Maybe I'll make one!

I wish there was a section on proper dog handling on trails. I love most dogs, but not a big fan when their owners are careless, clueless and disrespectful.

Personally I'd like to see groups like this go away and most trails returned to the wild. All trail maintenance does is allow mobs of people to invade the wilderness and turn it into a tourist destination. No thanks.

I've been unable to add hikes to my backpack for a while now, rather frustrating - no "Add hike to my backpack" button available on the hike details. I just realized that my Adblocker was trapping the button. Once the adblocker was disabled, the button came back. Phew. I suggest you add a note somewhere about adblockers, or add a check on the pages to pop up a warning when an adblocker is detected. as many sites do. Thanks for the site, the tips, the hike reports... precious info. (And a big thank you for all the trail maintenance done by WTA. If you haven't done it yet, do volunteer for a trail party, Gentle Viewer, always a treat.)

Thanks for letting us know, Dominique! We've passed that on to our team to look at. And thanks for your support! Our trail crews get so much done and we're so thankful for all our volunteers coming out to join us. Hope to see you on trail!

(WTA member here from a bike group link): I watched in vain for the most common encounter that I experience as a hiker: from behind me, a biker comes barreling along without warning. Somehow I hear a slight sound of their approach or glimpse them if the trail is winding, and I jump off trail to get out of the way because I know from experience that the biker is NOT going to yield, but expects me to get out of their way. This from-behind approach of a wheeled vehicle at vehicular speed when you're on foot will set your adrenaline soaring and shatter a peaceful hiking experience. When a biker appears ahead of me, I have NEVER observed one slowing or wheeling to the edge, much less stopping to yield on a narrow trail. They always expect me to get out of the way. Oddly enough, on a wide, paved bike path far more bikers have a bell to ring, or call out "On your left/right."

I've been told by horse people to step to the downhill side of the trail. Horses may feel threatened if you are above them; they may fear you will jump them as a cougar would.

Horses can't tell the difference between a human and a large cat? They must see the world as that horrific cats remake musical. No wonder they spook.
