I think what would help parents is if teachers put together a basic yet comprehensive understanding of what is learned at specific grade levels. For example, Mrs Funkhauser was really amazing about telling parents to practice 1) reading paragraphs and repeating main points. 2) their Lexile score in order to know what books to provide, 3) practice reading aloud and discussing main points with practice sheet questions 4) practicing math through Khan (assignments offered when logging in through school account). Knowing these things help us parents also prioritize education when at home. We know what to study and how. I'm feeling like this is a whole new ball game. And doing what worked is critical. Forget what was challenging and not beneficial to learning. I get there's a curve to all of this, but parents are busy too and I have to be honest - an hour and a half video is way too long. Condense and consolidate that information for us. Think - what are the main points? Stick to them.
Some schools, classes may need to be quarantined because of virus spread (about 10 minute mark)
The virus should die this summer .
For us parents that work, we can't teach our kids at home online, so don't expect that for all kids, not in school. Also, the 27th is a bit late if you are going to extend spring break.
I have a request bore all your bus driver. A print out of all holiday off. So we can mare our Calendars. When worked for Boise we always had them. They also. Had a school Calendar.
Congrats Samantha Robson! I always wear my "I Voted" sticker (people notice the collection under the bill of several of my hats I wear throughout the year), and will be even more proud to wear your designed sticker this year knowing it was created by local talent!
Thanks for Giving Me And My Friend Sky Hill The Chance to Be On The News!

I loved how the Christmas Wishes were legitimately Granted.
School bus drivers need new buses.
Wonderful that the giving table is a success! My daughter at KMS says that it is a hit with the kids. She and her friends can get food that they want more of at lunch that others don't and would normally just throw in the trash. I wish this was implemented in all of our schools. There are a few schools that need this, they just haven't heard about the program or don't know how to organize it. The amount of food that is thrown away each day is shocking: unopened bananas, apples, milk, oranges, grapes, wrapped breakfast items, fruit cups etc. Please make sure all schools have a giving table. Food that would normally be thrown in the trash can be used by students that need it. It isn't ok to throw good food away and have students sitting right there that are hungry. Also, cold lunch children should be able to get food from the giving table as well. Sometimes, cold lunch kids have very little to eat. We love our students, we need to show them that love by sharing all that we can equally.
I LOVE the Giving Table idea!! This is great!
I've been privileged and proud to attend assemblies at various schools in the KSD over the past years. Veteran's Day is always solemn and reverent to me and a special day of reflection. However, I wasn't able to be at the assembly this year. I was traveling for work where I help train the Army National Guard, or, as I call it, "America's finest training America's finest." Happy Veteran's Day and Armistice Day to all my fellow vets and active-duty military members and their families, and to the supportive people in the community. Also, a special shout out to McKayla Greany in this episode. Good job! :-)
Thank you for giving us credit for paying for the high school! Very exciting
Thank you for keeping us in the loop!
Great information to know! Thank you!
Great news broadcast today! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the updates, KSD. On an unrelated note, am I the only one who thinks Dave Reinhart bears an uncanny resemblance to the great Gilbert Gottfried? :)
I wish Kuna city would put stop lights in where parents drop off/student parking is. A stop light at N. Kay St and E. Porter St. It’s total chaos and very dangerous.
Swan Falls High School needs a mascot that represents what Swan Falls is: a hydro-electric dam. Since Swan Falls Dam generates electricity, I strongly believe "Chargers" would be the quintessential mascot! It is the epitome of power and force that spirited staff, students, and their families connected to the school can rally behind at events. It would be quite natural to blend "Swan Falls Chargers" together as it's school name and mascot (I hope the primary colors are blue and silver with black (and white) as the secondary color(s)). Steelhead fishing is popular below the Swan Falls Dam. The colors would easily compliment a "Steelheads" mascot, but I just don't think people would make the connection when the things that come to mind are a swan and a fish. Having a raptor for a mascot will also be equally confusing because of its dissimilarity from a swan, even though the idea of the mascot apparently stems from Swan Falls being in the Birds of Prey refuge area. My vote for a mascot is "Chargers." I wonder... will students of Swan Falls be referred to as "cygnets" or "electrons?" ;-)

Great update! Seems one of my long-time concerns have been answered here, particularly that the school district gets a say in how growth will affect our schools. Nonetheless, considering we are building new subdivisions next to schools that are already at capacity -- and we are still struggling with figuring out bus routes and schedules, and the recent bond that was passed doesn't likely take into account the booming housing growth -- how/why do these new developments keep continuing? In what way, if any, do the builders help pay for the city's growth? What I see besides the schools busting at the seams, I see main road arteries being clogged more and more because while more families move in the jobs are not in Kuna. And more cars on the road in and out of Kuna isn't challenging enough, we have to take detours because entire one-mile sections of roads are closed for months at a time. I've heard the terrible explanation that Kuna needs more low-income housing. That is another line of B.S. because... define low-income and then prove to me that there's a new home going up in Kuna that fits that budget of a low-income family? Instead, I see the bottom end of house prices starting at where the top end of house prices used to be just a few years ago. And at the same time, the size of the property is shrinking, which leads to the problem of fewer premium subdivisions with room for neighbors to stretch out. All the developers see is dollar signs when they can put 6-8 houses on an acre, and call it low-income because the lot size is small?? Have you seen the prices for lots? Four years ago my quarter acre lot was $17K. The quarter-acre lot across the street from me started at $30K when it was approved to build on, and it is still a dirt lot today and now priced at $65K! Hardly low-income. We're not lacking real estate like other places in the country where there just isn't anymore place to build a house unless you tear one down first. Even at this growth rate, there are still empty lots in current sub-divisions. So why, then, are we building more sub-divisions? I also heard from a school board member that the problems the school faces with new housing development also affects our fire district. Last week I was advised we had two firemen on duty... for the largest fire district in the county??!! Because our city can't afford our safety. Here's an idea... generate new revenue from property taxes by building more homes. Are we ignoring the other problem we've had for ages... getting to the other side of the tracks? Our community refused to vote for a recreation district. And the rumor was that the YMCA was going to jointly help build a recreational building on land that was donated to the Boys & Girls Club. Nope. Voted down. Better idea... turn the land over to a developer and put houses on it. I'm all for a growing community. New sub-divisions and homes are inevitable. I'm fine with that. I'm just not fine with housing growing faster than the city can accommodate it with an infrastructure of schools, businesses within the city limits to shop and to work at, a place for our kids and families to go after school and on the weekends, better roads, and reasonable home lot sizes... at least .18 acres or more with at least 70ft between property lines. Just sayin'. Let's grow this community sensibly and make it a place people will want to move to, not simply because it's a cheap town and the only place in the Greater Boise Area they can afford to live without moving too much farther away from their jobs, but because it's beautiful and has things to offer without ever having to leave town, all while still being affordable and not over-crowded. Give us some room to breathe! Where's the big box store? Where's the first-run theater? Where are the jobs for people? Just don't give us another pizza shop or put a Legacy F&F next to the D&B that's across the street from the Tractor Supply Company. Enough with the urban renewal and downtown area revitalization propaganda. Slow the housing development down and grow the city's infrastructure in a sensible way.
Thanks for the updates, excited about the Fremont Edition.
Great job on the KSD3 logo! Simple. Shows action. How about using the "3" help the balance the colors by making it gold? 🙂
Thank you KHS for the anti-bullying message!!!
