I always say every gospel musician has been successful because the church and pastors made them who they are. Why are you taking what was preached out of context? That aspect of the message was on premarital vows, marital vows, and widowhood vows. There are caveats by which they can be nullified, and the father's authority is one of them. The essence of marriage is the transfer of authority from the father's house to the husband's. According to the commandments of Moses, if a man sleeps with a woman who isn't betrothed, he is not stoned but has to go and pay the bride price to the girl's father who would then decide whether to give her away or not. The problem is your definition of fornication as pre-marital sex. But fornication is more than that. It is an uncontrolled desire that leads to disregard of something sacred. Esau was called a fornicator in Heb 12:16, and it wasn't in relation to pre-marital sexual relations.
