Welcome to Stevie the Ioniq. Hi I'm Stevie. In this channel you will see my journey through the ownership of my first electric vehicle : "The 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5". This channel combines my passion for EV, storytelling and creating content.
How Much Does an EV Road Trip Really Cost?
In my recent video, I documented an exciting 4-day EV road trip from Calgary to Ottawa. Along the way, I relied on a mix of fast chargers and level 2 chargers to keep my vehicle powered up, and I also provided detailed cost breakdowns for every charger I used. With careful route planning and insights into the charging process, this video is perfect for anyone looking to embark on their own EV adventure and manage their travel expenses effectively!"

Great video! How come you have a right hand drive Ioniq 5?
@@dennisbird5901 Thanks for watching. Sorry, I don't quite follow
It looked like a right side but further in the video you see that it is a left side. Probably the way he is filming
@@ginopaveglio8858 I believe you're correct.
Why so much for a 12v battery?!
What he did releases a plug from the socket, not opens the flap. According to the Hyundai manual, anyway!
Great video. I just bought a used 2022 SEL RWD. I haven’t been able to get the preconditioning to work as you’ve shown. Any ideas? Thanks.
@@idolgreen Congrast! You may need to update the software first. Let me know if this video help. ruclips.net/video/6nLVHhgOcHc/видео.htmlsi=KPrWe7VFBcWc5Kd3
@@stevietheioniq thanks! Do you have the rwd or AWD model? I have plans to take it to the dealer this week for other updates that are needed.
what does it do? the climate wont turn on just by using the fob right? kinda useless
You can use the app to turn on the climate remotely.
@@stevietheioniq mine is not the bluelink version , so i only can remote start from the key and i was wondering what is the purpose of remote starting an EV if you couldn’t do anything else , it sucks for me to get the car 1 month before the bluelink/app version was released in my country
@@Sierra137 oh I see. Do you have accedd to the bluelink apps in your country now?
Why don't you tell us how mush time you spent charging your battery. It would be good to know.
@@Chrysler1961 I will make another video answering your question
Very cool, that costs less than most gas cars
Thanks for watching. Apreciate that!
Thank you. you did outstanding , I'll be back. 🤓
Thanks for watching. Appreciate that !
Ok cool, so Day 1: 4 stops before an overnight stop in Virden MB (1050km?). How did you sleep? Day 2: 5 stops, then an overnight stop in Upsula, ON. (850km?). Day 3: 3 stops? 500km to White River, then somehow already in Sudbury on day 4 (670km from White River, after 3 stops? followed by your last stop in Pettawawa, and finally Ottawa (another 490km from Sudbury). Total 2710 km. How many hours were spent at the twenty level 3 chargers, and what did all of that charging cost? Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching. I will make another video answering all your questions Stay Tune.

Bonjour Steve, comment faisais-tu pour te prendre en vidéo pendant que tu conduisais ?
@@etiennenzolang I have window glass mount to attach the camera.
Thanks bro
Happy to help
Should’ve bought a Tesla lmao
@@jesseyrichard4611 Nice one, supercharger is reliable for sure. They are now allowing non tesla 5o charge at some supercharger
Thanks, yes, it is a common issue. 12V batteries in EVs especially Hyundai are lasting about 2 years. To help this issue, I keep my SOC above 20% in my 2024 Ioniq6. I know this would not work for every owners' use case. I've had my ioniq6 for 6 months.
Thanks for sharing, This is very helpful
Typically, a battery’s warranty does not work the way you think. For example, if it fails after 3 years, odds are you will only get back 40% of the original purchase price of your battery, i.e. 2 years left out of 5 years in total. Please reread your battery warranty.
Thanks for the tips.
Hmm, I'm 6'2 (190cm) and while I fit comfortably in the seat I don't see that much because the ceiling basically cuts off a third of my field of view? Sat in it today and I have a test drive planned for next week.
Are you able to lower the seat down.
@@stevietheioniq i lowered it to the lowest point. I had enough room above the haed and the seating itself was fine/comfortable but it did cut off a not so small part of my field of view, the black block where the mirror is connected to the windshield didn't help either. Maybe it was just because I wasn't used to it, I do have some troubles in that regard with my current car aswell, a hyundai ix20.
@@Sp1tFire92 I see. The last option will be to lower your seat backward a bit.
@@stevietheioniq i will try that in my test drive next Saturday, thanks :)
Super!
Nice wind. 😂
yeah, crazy wind 😁
Looking forward to see the DC charging stops on route.
Me too. From my route planning, most of them seem to be 50KW charger
still no PIN to drive. that's a shame. this car is so easy to steal. shame on Hyundai for making it super easy to steal
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's important to bring awareness to these issues. However this is not a Telsa.

I can't find this screen on my newly delivered 2024 I5. Would you, please, show / explain your screen settings and how to go from the Home screen to the split screen shown in your video showing the Energy Consumption? Thanks in advance.
Congras on your new 2024 I5. It was a sofware update.
Check out this video it should answer your question also look at the video description ruclips.net/video/CL84WDQ9WSo/видео.htmlsi=0lihlans01T8b4kx
New pricing way more expensive in my opinion here in BC. January 6 charged on a 350 kWh station took 34 minutes and 32 seconds at $0.57 per minute cost me $20.74 ($0.99 gst included) Total energy delivery 48.9010 kWh. January 14 at exact same charger new price set at $0.70/kWh. Total energy delivery 53.2454 kWh. Billed Energy 53.0000 kWh. Cost me $38.94 ($1.85 gst included). Total charge time was 44 minutes and 18 seconds. On the old pricing structure, I would have only been charged $26.51 ($1.26 gst included). Needless to say I'm not going to be charging here again.
Same here buddy. Tesla don't event charge that high. Check out this follow up video I did. ruclips.net/video/1N5BStifoOs/видео.htmlsi=0m2faWIpE8s4J0gT
So EV drivers are crying that the infrastructure they need to charge with is costing more... boohoo... you should have to pay more. I don't want my tax dollars to pay for new chargers and infrastructure for you. Do you think Esso/Shell/Petro charge tax payers to build a station? I am however, surprised they are doing it this early, they should have waited until the current idiot government forces people to buy EV's, then crank the price. This is inevitable.
Did you know oil and gas is subside by government? Imagine how much it will cost if the government did not subside. www.cbc.ca/news/climate/canada-inefficient-fossil-fuel-subsidies-1.6885526#:~:text=Environmental%20Defence%20recently%20calculated%20that,to%20the%20Coastal%20GasLink%20Pipeline.
Or just buy a petrol car and save urself the hassle.
How much have you save on petrol?
@@stevietheioniq wldnt be able to install home so cost wld be much the same
Good tips! I wish we could use preconditioning with a level 2 or a home charger.
Precondition is not necessary with home charge because level 02 charge slow therefore preconditioning won't make charging fast due to the limitation of level 02
Thanks for the tips
You're welcome. Thanks for watching
I have the update in the UK for my 2023 Ioniq 5 and it doesn't have wireless carplay/android auto as it has the Gen5W system. The update is for ccNC systems like in the new Ioniq 5N.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the update! It's important for viewers to know that the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto feature may not be available on all models
@@stevietheioniq No worries, let's hope we get it in the future!
I am currently waiting for the Wireless Apple car play, I have a Hyundai Sonata Limited 1.6T
Nice, keep me posted
One not so cool feature is that some owners were told it will cost over $60,000 to replace the battery in only 2-3 years.
It comes with 5 years warranty. So not need to worries about battery for at least 5 years.
@@stevietheioniq If that is true then why did Hyundai refuse to honor battery warranties on two vehicles? Say what you want but the truth proves otherwise.

Canadian will be screwed again... You fail to mention how much per kWh...
Thank you for pointing that out! I appreciate your feedback. It goes into affect on January 09 2024. Keep an eye out for updates on this topic!
Crazy it wasn't in place from day dot. Here in Australia it's the only way there may be an added per min cost depending on operator but all operators do per kWh charging as minimum. That's how your home electricity is billed so why not for EVs as well.
very insightful !
Hydrogen - electric Now that’s forward thinking …..
Totally agreed!
Well this is awesome for me, I ride a Harley LiveWire and it tops out at just 24kW charging speed. When is this supposed to go into affect? Do you know the per kW amount? Hopefully all the stations in Canada switch to this model.
It goes into affect on January 09 2024. We don't know much they are going to charge yet. Will let you know next year.
@@stevietheioniq sounds good. Can't wait to find out.
You bought an electric Harley? 😂
@@huemann7637 These's nothing wrong with that. These is not a lot of options for electric motocycle.
It depends. If it is a 350 kwh fast charging than it will be cheaper.
Yes, but also depends on if it is pre-condition and also how much your vehicle can take.

Thanks great video, now im Gonna wait until the 2025 ioniq 5 to be release.
Thanks for wacthing. Are you getting long range?
I tried one of the newer Magic Dock stations a couple of times and only got 42 kW. On the third try several weeks later our Ioniq 5 got 97 kW. They seem to go through a phased ramp up for 800 V batteries.
Oh really? was it a V3 Or V2 supercharger?
