3 Patchwork Knitting Strips: joining at the end of Wrong Side rows
When attaching a new strip to the left hand edge of an existing strip (while knitting the new strip), it is necessary to work the join at the end of Wrong Side rows in order to maintain the feature seam on the right Side of the fabric. This video demonstrates how to work the join at the end of wrong side rows.
My book, Patchwork Knitting: Squares, Shells and Strips by Fiona Morris, provides more information and ideas about working in strips, squares or shells.

06 Tunisian Crochet The Tunisian Purl Stitch
Просмотров 292 года назад
Another basic tunisian crochet stitch is the Tunisian Purl Stitch. The Tunisian Purl Stitch creates a fabric that looks similar to the purl side of reverse stocking stitch in knitting. The fabric usually lies flat and as well as being an all-over fabric can be used for a few rows at the beginning and end of a project to keep the piece of crochet from curling. It can be combined with Tunisian Kn...
07 Tunisian Crochet Tunisian Full Stitch
Просмотров 392 года назад
Tunisian Full Stitch makes a thick cushy fabric. It is worked in a slightly different way to many basic Tunisian Stitches in that when pulling up a new loop the hook goes through the fabric under the horizontal bar between stitches. It is also a two row pattern rather than a single row pattern.

Toe-up Socks Lesson 3, Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Cast off
I am intrigued and fascinated by the fact that casting on in this way produces a piece of work that becomes circular. If I didn't know better, I would have thought that this casts on would have produced flat knitting
Is there any way of avoiding the holes that appear when doing this in garter stitch?
Great video and informative
thank you for the clearest explanation I've seen
Excellent! Thx Fiona, you explained this best!
I just was not understanding how to do this cast-on from a few other videos, not sure why, but your tutorial finally made it click in my brain! Thank you! I'm working on a pumpkin hat for my daughter for this fall and this will make it even cuter. 😊
Excellent demonstration. I wanted to add a shawl collar to a patten that just has a button band the same width all the way around. Your demo is perfect for my needs and I can see it will be really easy to do. Thank you so much. Also, I really love this chunky sweater. I live in Florida and it's usually not cold enough for something like that, but I am thinking about making it anyway, even if I only wear it a handful of times per year that is a beautiful sweater and the pattern is very reasonably priced.
I'm glad the video has been of some use and i hope you enjoy making the jacket
Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate a number of rows. My first attempt was disastrous. Now I feel confident to try again
May I ask You why You turn the new knit stitch before you put it on the left needle and when you do the purl stitch you don,t turn the new stitch?
This cast on is a variation of the Cable Cast on which is usually worked as a knit cast on. In the Cable Cast on the stitch is turned as it is placed on the left needle so it is orientated correctly (for Western open knitting style) on the left needle when working the first row. If working the Cable Cast on with a purl stitch, the way the stitch is formed will have the correct orientation without turning when placed on the left needle. I used to work this cast on without turning the knit stitch but as it didn't seem to make any difference if I turned the stitch, and this is the method I am more used to working when working cable cast on, I know work the cast on as demonstrated. I hope this explanation helps.
Best video I,ve seen with this cast on.
Thank you I’ll swatch before working on a pullover. Very nicely done. Cast on on the end and middle other end. Good I found this one.
Hello Fiona. I can't find the video explaining how to work the lace edging around the point of the shawl ... Where can it be found ? Thanks
Hi sorry to take a bit of time to reply. The video you want is 'Shetland Shawl, working the edge around the point.' Hope that helps.
thank you, I am delighted to learn to knit with you, you are so good at showing and explaining. Can I knit this shawl with two needles? Hope so.
You can start the shawl on two needles but it will be difficult to work the whole shawl on two needles as the next stage requires picking up stitches along two sides of the triangle. There are a lot of stitches and the knitting has to turn a corner at the point which will not be very easy on straight needles. All the knitting is back and forth but having a flexible needle will make it easier to knit the shawl. Hope that helps.
thankyou so much, yes, a big help. I have begun lesson one and will buy a pair of flexible needles soon as possible.@@fionamorrisdesigns1798
That's really helpful tbank you. Explained simply and calmly.
thank you. it is great to know the video is of some help.
Thanks for mentioning what to do when binding off. I watched a couple of other videos on this technique, but none of them show or mentions anything about binding off. This was just what I needed.
Glad it was helpful!
Well done
Very clear🎉
Thank you after unravelling so many times I can't wait to try this.
finally. I’ve been trying to figure this out for weeks. This is the first video that has great explanation and it doesn’t go too fast for a beginner. Thank you so much.
Just perfect!
Trop compliqué 👎👎👎
Thank you for explaining how important the yarn placement is after slipping off the slipknot!

Glad it was helpful!
Hi Fiona, enjoyed your video thanks for taking the time to do this ,I want to add the picot to my shorties socks need to have 64stitches I want to do the picot one .row and add 2 rows of knit 2 purl 2 after that I will start my heel flap not a math person need help with adding the st after the picot help would be appreciated thanks AliceJ.
Hi Alice, here are the instructions for the Picot Cast-on written down. Hope this helps. Make a slip-loop and place this on the LH needle. Using the Knit cast-on, cast on 5sts, *cast off 2sts, slip stitch back to LH needle, cast on 4 more stitches; repeat from * for required number of stitches. Each repeat creates 2 new stitches so when you have cast on nearly all the stitches you may have to cast on 1 or 2 more stitches to get the correct stitch count. The stitches are in pairs with a small gap between each pair. If I were to go into a k2, p2 rib after this cast on I would work k1, *p2, k2: repeat to last 3sts, p2, k1. The gap between pairs of stitches will come at the centre of each pair.
I’m having a better look at your videos and patterns now, the instruction is very clear. Thanks. I have subbed.
Awesome, thank you!
I really like this, thanks for sharing your tip. I am using it to start off a summer cotton camisole. It would be really go for my socks as well. Excellent.
Great idea!
I have had just the problem you describe with the loose strand! That’s so useful to know thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
A lot clearer than my pattern.
Fantastic video!
Thank you very much!
Give this one a try. It looks good to me.
Thanks
Excellent. Thanks so much. You've taught me how to knit very neat buttonholes.
Glad it was helpful!
Beautiful knitting, and thank you so much for such detailed instructions. I can not wait to use this on the finishing of m first knitted cardigan!
Wonderful!
Hello. Thank you for this video. Is there a reason some people twist it when transferring (both when casting on and after binding off but before starting the next repeat) and some don’t? What’s the impact on the finished item?
Especially helpful that you show how to move into the next step. Few people think to do that. Well done.
Hi Eli, When casting on stitches with 2 needles as used in this picot cast-on the reason for twisting on the stitch if to do with the way the stitch sits on the left needle when you come to it in the next row. If the stitch is twisted on when placing it on the needle it will be mounted with the right hand leg of the stitch being at the front of the needle, which is the normal way for a stitch to be mounted in 'Western uncrossed knitting'. If the stitch is not twisted on when being placed on the left hand needle the right hand leg of the stitch sits at the back of the needle so you either have to knit through the back loop for a normal open stitch or if you knit through the front loop i.e. the left leg you will work a twisted stitch. Hope that explains things OK.
@@fionamorrisdesigns1798 so well explained. Grateful for your efforts.
Thanks for sharing, very helpful info 🎄🎄🎄
Glad it was helpful!
Sincere thanks for giving me the instruction on making a horizontal buttonhole, I had tried and tried and was on the verge of throwing it away And knitting a band, you made it look so simple and I was able to follow it. It just finished the cardigan, and I am delighted. Thank you.
Glad it helped!
Thank you. Ms. Fiona Morris. I have been trying to make a square Shetland shawl. Find the corners of the shawl very difficult. I'm going to try again. Thank you so much for your videos.
Lovely to know my video is of some help
Thank you.! I have been wanting to try and knit this shawl. You are so helpful.
Thank you I'm glad the demonstration was of some help
I adore your instructions and video. I have tried many others, leaving frustrated. This is straightforward and explained without assuming we know anything about what you are teaching us. Thanks for making German Short Row heels a breeze.
Glad it helped!
