Hi, can you please share the Lightburn settings you are using with Phecda? This laser cutter is a really nightmare when I want to cut/engrave circles or complex geometries. There is always a offset that makes awful works! I have been working with a config file called GRBL that I found in a topic at the Lightburn forum..
I'm looking to make a park accurate one soon! So much fun!
@@motherhemcreation it was. I didn't have time to do much other than just print and paint.
@EvilGeniusProps it's why there was no comments about it here. I know all about last minute stuff. My friend found out two days before Halloween that the grandmother who has custody of her kids while she's getting back on her feet did not use the child's benefits to get her a costume. So I had like two hours of sleep to make her slytherin robes and lent her a wand and slytherin scarf that was super important to me(person who made it for me passed away). Cause no child in my vicinity will feel the disappointment of not being able to go trick or treating. I was in the city on Halloween day and also picked up my nephew by friendship and dropped him off at his friend's place to go trick or treating and got to see all the kids having a blast. I was super excited for him cause it was a like million dollar home area so EVERYONE was giving out candy and dressed up etc. So it was a really good area. Less and less people are giving out candy down here. I'm actually gonna ask around in advance next year in my area to see if maybe we have like a trunk or treat. So i can snazzy up my car and give out candy OR I'm kidnapping one of my friends kids(Not actually lol) and taking them trick or treating lol.
How long did the print take you?
@motherhemcreation I don't remember now, I think it was over 24 hours though
Where did you get your file? Were trying to find it and just print extra mouth pieces to make it more grate like lol
First off Cool Vid. Was thinking about how I was going to add limit switches on mine. You how ever never showed where the cable got plugged into the circuit board. I am sure it is in the manual, but from an audience perspective it would be nice to see at a screen shot, as well as see it do it's thing. You know stopping by itself. I would also like to see what enclosures you had in mind. That would a good vid.
Please Where can I buy this kit???
The shop is up on Etsy, www.etsy.com/shop/propfictionstudios. I don't think he's making anymore right now.
Hi, tell me something When you are using the machine, both fans inside the laser case always are on? Or first one and then the other?
Those switches are installed upside down, please flip them so they don't hang out under the frame, and the cables hide inside the frame canal.
There's tons of examples for grbl based machines out there. Hope you didn't pay a lot for them.
AWESOME! I need that!
I'm actually putting it in an Auction at the end of June
Is there this machine of elegoo phecda 10 w is good for cutting and engraving of 3mm acrylic sheets?
Sorry, I haven't tried it with acrylic yet.
I installed he 2 switch version from Elegoo, 3d printed the mounts, and ran the lines after making one that was long enough. There is an online document on how to do this but elegoo doesnt sell any parts. The settings had to be adjusted correctly. Had to reverse pin polarity and also redefine "home". That part wasnt in their instructions but after setting it homes perfectly to the front left corner.
It works for me, but when I do home, it is as if it disconnected from the PC, could you give me the information to make it longer?
@@josedavidvergaragutierrez4264 Can you explain it in more detail? Do you mean the 'home' image on the Phecda? It is for finding an origin or other mysterious location, not zero-zero home. Hooked up to software clicking home works. The whole laser world seems messy and behind 3D printing by about 15 years imo. I'm sure as more people get into it, improvements will be made.
How did you run the air asssit tube?? Along he cable that curves?
Yeah, it just follows the braided cable along the gantry.
You can also use the small holes in the rear plexiglass for the zip ties. Works perfect as that is what they are there for :)
Cant see what you did with the air assist, camera too low :(
I stopped watching 1/2 way through for the same reason. Oh well, Next Video...
Im looking at getting this laser unit - overall how do you like it - and also since you added the limit switches???
I think it's fine if you take it's limitations into account. You're not doing everything you would with a larger or more expensive setup. So thin wood or engraving it's fine. The limit switches help. I just did a bunch of repeat cuts and it helped to just home it and go each time.
Hi, I've the 10W Version. It's a good beginner laser. The fact, that it has no limit Switches ist a bit anoing but ok... and to be honest. The 400x400 is Not really true. The X-axis has a maximum of 380mm, i Use is just with 350mm
@@Holzkopp87 Yup. Not 400x400 laser area lol.
I switched that hose for some silicone hose. No issues since replacing it.
Can you explain how you fixed the belt?
I mostly looked at how the other side was set up and tried to copy that to get it attached. Then used the adjustment screw to tighten it up. I've had it fall off again once since then. It's not a great design
Amazing work! I can't imagine everyone's reactions.
Hello.... how do you set up the wifi to the app? I keep putting the the IP address in but its not connecting
Same issue since day one, just keep pressing it lol it will connect eventually
I would love to know how to add limit switches as I am thinking of buying one of these but thats a concern
It's on the list for a project this winter, so look for a video in the near future.
@@EvilGeniusProps Ok Ill be watching for this Thanks alot!
I’m having difficulties connecting the app to the engraver. I was hoping that you shared how you do that.
Honestly, I connected the app, tried using it, hated it and just use LightBurn and the memory card instead.
You can't get repeatability with a phecda as it has no end stops and you have to work from currant position, the feet are pointless... And you cropped off 80 percent of your footage.... Stick to your day job.
What a good dad you are ❤️👏👏👏👏
I agree with your comment about a heavy Singer sewing machine.
I try not to buy into KickStarter campaigns by well funded Chinese companies that are mostly using it to generate marketing buzz. Any slight discount from getting an early KickStarter unit is more than spent on the time wasted and frustration of trying to assemble and use an early prototype where you are a beta tester. I bought a fairly early (probably second boatload from China) Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro 3D printer. Similarly to this video, Elegoo tries to bag the fasteners for each step (good) but manages to mislabel the bags when the engineers substitute different fasteners after the instructions are printed (bad). The X axis gantry of my new 3D printer has two divots from too long screws that bored through the anodizing. The 3D printer is good but the assembly was more complicated and troublesome than it should have been. Shipping is a significant cost (shipping from China to the US, and shipping from the US warehouse to the customer) so they try to pack everything in the smallest box possible. The assembled Phecda laser would be larger than the box of parts, but I think most customers would be happy to spend $30 more to buy an assembled and tested laser engraver. I just bought the 10W Phecda with air assist for $250 and it'll be here in two days. Gotta love Amazon for near instant gratification. I got the 10W because the spot size is half the area of the 20W and I want to do detailed engraving on black TPU. I'd installed Inkscape several years ago and finally played with it last night. It seems very easy to use for my simple needs but I'm having trouble getting the laser G code output plugin to work, maybe because I fed it a raster image. I hope I don't need to use closed source software for the laser because all of my CAD, CNC and 3D printing tool chain is open source running under Linux. It's going to be very cool to use my part models in FreeCAD to quickly and easily make 3D printed fixtures that precisely cradle my parts to position them in the laser engraver.
And during Black Friday it was cheaper than the Kickstarter price.
@@mrfoameruk - I paid under $250 for a 10W Phecda with the air assist. I started to use an air pump I had but the $15 for the Elegoo air assist option was worth it. It's a very nice air pump - way nicer than I expected for the money.
Thers a diy kit on the facebook group for converting it to have limit switches, total cost less then a tenner from amazon (some switches and leads). If you were thinking of doing that upgrade I wouldn't mind a video on it. I did the installation but could not figure out the settings in order to get it to work the way intended.
Yeah, I was thinking about doing that and some other 3d printed bits.
Hi, I recently purchased the phecda 10w, I did the test, 2 engravings, now I can't engrave anything anymore, can you help me? I checked all the parameters of speed and power (mm/min) but it seems as if the laser has no power and is unable to engrave. I would like to understand if I'm doing something wrong, or the laser I received is faulty. Thank you!
Can you try doing one of the samples again and see if those work? If so, check your other parameters in the software you're using to design them. If not, reach out to elegoo support.
Yes, I've already tried, but it doesn't work, it seems as if the laser doesn't have the power needed to make the cut, I'll do some more tests, then if it doesn't work, I'll contact technical support. Thank you!
Heya, how do you even get the laser light on??? I’m stuck!!! Cheers
If you're turning it on and the carving button isn't getting you anything, make sure all your wires are plugged in all the way. That's as much as I can think of. The way this was shipped it wouldn't surprise me if something was loose and it wasn't getting power.
@@EvilGeniusProps oh dear, thanks for that, will try that today then :)
Sorted!!!! Let there be light!!!!!! Whooooooop!!! Thank you so much :D@@EvilGeniusProps
@@DaryanShamkhali - It's nice when people who have problems not only report that they fixed the problem but also report what fixed their problem so others having the same problem can benefit as well. We're all in this together.
Got a link to that ornament design?
3axis.co/laser-cut-layered-christmas-ornament-svg-file/6o3ygpk7
The instructions were pretty basic and the PDF didn't show what cable went to what but after looking at another post that became clearer. but overall it was this is what you need, a 3d print with these switches, and figure out the rest yourself. installing was easy but no help when things went wrong or how to test it. Mine did weird things when homing and without a video of how it should react I was left wondering what to do next.
Nice video! Keep is up!❤
Got mine yesterday. Thinking about a stand but with a enclosure. The foot of the Phecda is standing on the gap between the original wood and the rim you installed. So I wonder if the Laser is standing a little bit uneven now? Then where do you put the pump for the air assist? And because I own an old K40 co2 Laser don´t you need an enclose for the most jobs? So I would need to istall some sort of case around the machiene with a lid to operate it and an exhaust to get the fumes out of my basement while it´s working. I wonder if I should try some thin cheap steel sheets and build some sort of box for it or if I use wood for the box. Some sort of legs will work with both of it. And maybe some sort of rolls so I can move it around more easily.
The laser seems to be level enough, I've used it a few times since the build and haven't had a problem. I don't have my air assist yet, so I haven't figured that out yet. They sell an enclosure that I didn't preorder with the Kickstarter, but I'm considering it now. I don't have the metal working capacity or I'd totally try making my own with like a piano hinge for the lid.
A piano hinge would be great for access to the cutter. I ordered mine with air assist but without the enclosure. Needless to say the enclosure is out of stock since then ...
I couldnt see why this didnt come ready assembled. The box would have been squarer but not really any bigger overall....and a lot less hassel
Yeah, at least the base. The bed on their 3D printers come assembled.
Keeps the price down if they let you assemble. I assembled 2 in about 40 min... but I do agree with you though.
I am planning to etch a pcb with a 20W version. Do you thing that it would work?
Maybe. But I don't know enough about PCBs to say for sure either way.
I just received my Phecda today and decided to attempt to assemble it this evening. This has been an absolute nightmare! Had the same issue with the naming conventions for screws not matching although that didn't stop me from just using the ones they sent. All of my belts were disconnected, not just the one that hooks around the optical shaft assembly. I didn't really think anything of it, as 3d printer belts can be tightened quite easily after assembly and as a regular maintenance, I was thinking this would be the same, so I completely assembled the laser, only to find that the X-axis belt is too short (at this time I'm not sure if it's actually too short, or if it should be hooked up prior to assembly to avoid this from happening). Either way, extremely frustrating. On top of that, I ordered the Air Assist kit, which came with half of the parts missing and the Rotary kit, which has absolutely no instructions on how to install it or how to use it (sure I can use the Elegoo facebook channel, fine, but I don't think we should have to personally). As a first time laser owner, I've found this to be the most frustrating build I've come across, and I've worked with both FDM and resin printers in the past. I'll be reaching out to Elegoo's support channel, but don't suspect they'll be too quick in getting back to me. Gave up for the night, maybe when I'm rested, cooler heads will prevail 😅

I got mine still on it's box, hopefully they'll send the add ons soon. Thanks for the vid.
Built mine no issues, i reported the typo in the manual for the screws on their discord and am now happily engraving while i wait for my add ons.
Yeah, I've seen that they have since corrected the manual for the screws.
Hi, sorry for the month later reply but I'm looking to get into laser engraving and was hoping this is going to be my first one but people said that the air filtration fan was pretty bad and the goggles they come with is also a joke. Can you provide some insight as to what you've experienced?
@@colinreitz2646 The filtration by itself without an enclosure isn't that great, but I can't compare it to other lasers. I wouldn't have it running in a room without windows open. I didn't take chances on the glasses. I got another pair that was recommended on the Discord for $15 on Amazon.
You've unboxed and set this up perfectly!
I feel your pain as I am going thru the same issues! You made a bit of a meal of the screws TBH - just a simple typo and easily resolved by looking at all the bags of screws! The belt issue was a nightmare for me as I didn’t detect the problem until after building the gantry. I then attempted to rectify the issue and succeeded after about two hours’ slog. Elegoo will have to come up with a better solution if they want to break into the general consumer market. For me there have been screws too easily deformed, typos in manual, building sequence different between manual and video…all in all quite a difficult experience.
Had both of these issues myself. On the Brightside...we're more familiar with the machine now. Also, I put one of the sides in upsidedown. Belts coming loose/off was annoying, but the installation video was pretty good. Just getting it hooked up still.
I've serious issues with my belts too. I've been building mine today and I'm frankly appalled by how badly organised this Kickstarter was. Thanks for putting this together, you've done a lot better than I have.
The belt did NOT come loose. It was loose because you have to put it on the tension bolt and then clip it behind the laser module
It actually wasn't attached to the idler so that part did come loose. And in the construction video they had it taped down which mine wasn't.
Mine was not only loose, the one part that was connected was connected to the wrong point! It was pulled through the wheels and attached to the point on the opposite side. It took me a bit to puzzle that out.
They covered the TYPO with the screws and it was a TYPO and not an instruction issue. So, saying it is a bit disconcerting is laughable. You never ever made a typo? It happens and it got missed.
Ok, good. But for a device that is designed to be constructed at home, by amateurs, you'd like that to be correct. Additionally, when I asked on the discord no one knew about that.
@@EvilGeniusProps - It seems that it's common for Elegoo (and probably their competitors) to ship kits to paying customers with typos, engineering changes after the instructions are printed, etc. Honestly, the first one or two shipments should have laser printed instruction sheets so they can keep revising the instructions to get them right instead of having mistakes in 10,000 offset printed manuals. Can it be that difficult to have someone build one of the first units to ensure that all the correct parts are included and the manual has no mistakes? Elegoo's designs are generally good but they suffer from READY-FIRE-AIM problems.
Ive had mine sitting in the box since July! Waiting on the add-ons I went with before I set mine up. Not looking forward to the building of it. I do know on the Phecda Facebook page they updated the installation instructions. Hopefully that corrected the mislabeled screws. Did you have any issue with belt tensioning?
Yeah, I really want my add ons to get here, I'm getting my feet wet with it and learning LightBurn. Once I got the belt on I was able to get it tensioned ok, still seems like a bad design to me.
and they did address the typo in both the comments in the campaign page, the updates and on the FB group.
@@EvilGeniusProps this is typical of ANY CNC device. If you think it a bad design then you might want to try and redesign CNC devices in general and how they work, because they all use this type of design for the most part and those that don't, charge A LOT more for that as no belts are used. but screws and such.
@@Nikmal I'd just have the pulley on the baffle so the belt wasn't hanging loose.
well done
