Cutting a hole in my 1972 VW Bus!
In this episode we're going to install both a new fuel sender, and to make that job easier in the future, we're going to install an access hatch above the fuel talk. There's a little bit of controversy cutting into a vintage VW Bus but, this access hatch will be a huge time saver the next time it needs replaced.

In this episode, it's time to remove the old paint on the rear bumper! Underneath that dull black pray paint is OG VW white paint, and silver primer. Either will look better than the back paint. Hi sir! I am also thinking about using the cigarette outlet for power. But the cigeratte has 12v and 20amperes which translates to max 220watts. The JBL basspro hub can go to 300watts. Did you have any issues with it? How loud can you put it? Have you never blown a fuse because of this? Thanks! Kind regards
What is the b piller ? And do I need the left and right speakers or just one speaker wire to wire the loc

Not here bud, I didn't create one. They are out there I'm sure.
If you look at a ‘71 (owned 12yrs)and then a ‘72 you can see where VW went cheap. Having said this I want a ‘72 as it has one really good improvement-the pancake engine! The bottom end is very robust/strong. More power at later 2000cc and dual carbs. I had a 1776cc dual carbs and 9qt oil system with external oil cooler with electric thermal fan. My ‘71 cruised 80mph all day! I had a small advertising agency and one client built only pancake engines for 914 racing cars. He explained why his engines were better suited for the bus than the overheating type1.
Anyone know if I hook to the high level inputs of this unit do I still need to use the remote wire or will it sense the speaker input and turn on itself?
Good question! You'll still need the remote wire to turn the amp on. Just a switched 12v somewhere will work.
@@countdowngarage No you don’t. I hooked it up 2 weeks ago. If you wire to high level it turns itself on which is nice.
If you used an LOC with a remote turn on, then yes, good call out. Otherwise there has to be 12v on the blue remote turn on wire for the amp to turn on.
I have a 2017 tsi. How do I do this? Is that program expensive? Any way to do it without a program?

How long did this take to install? I am trying to find someone to do it for me but I think I am getting hustled. Folks are trying to charge me almost 1k to install, any advice ?
It will take a few hours, depending on the vehicle, and if that cost includes parts and labor or just labor. Not sure of the hourly rate, but I would expect it to be $75-$100 per hour. Having a skilled audio tech running the wiring, having to pull the interior apart, then having to put it all back together takes time. Maybe ask for a work breakdown to have a better understanding of the cost? Also, what is your time worth...could you do the work, with the same results for less?

Sounds like a wiring problem bud. Check the wiring diagram for your application.
When you put the trunk cover over the sub is it flush?
Yes it sits below the cover so no problem there.

What kind of current draw from JBL Bass Hub as power is usually from the fused wire to battery as 12v cigarette outlet can’t handle high current draw as wire is only 16ga not 8ga.

Yes both L and R. You can use the high-level harness, no need to use LOC's. I did so I could mod the signal via the LOC.
Could you tell me in which color of the outlet cables you connected the remote. because I am installing the same bass that you have, but for the remote in the outlet there are 3 cables

Probably? As long as it can secure the sub, I don't see why not.

Run fused power from your battery. Google "how to install and amplifier" and that will help explain.

Not sure if this would help, but IIRC I picked the closet one, and ran it though a grommet where there were no other wires.

Hi ! So you hook up a 8 gauge wire from the battery with a fuse 40A to the 10 gauge wire is that it ?
Much more that just that for a full and correct install.
will this work for a 2014 GTI?
Remote windows an be configured for both a MK6 and MK7, the procedure will be different though.
Since the JBL amp already supports high level, is there any benefit to using a line out converter to go to the low level inputs instead?

So, thanks for posting this -- subscribed and saved! However, I have a 2021.5 Atlas SEL Premium loaded with all the bells, etc. --- except I don't like the infotainment/stereo system. It was my concern beforehand, but I relented and chose this vehicle. My issue is that the sound could be better AND louder w/better bass. My concern is that I have a lease, don't know what my plans will be once the lease is over, and I want to install an amp or an option like in your video to resolve the issue. BUT I want "minimal" disturbance and/or changes to the vehicle. Is this possible? Does your option suffice? Thanks
All the wiring for this sub is reversible. In fact we traded in our 2018 Atlas (what this sub was installed in) for a 2021 Atlas and the dealership removed it all, taking it back to stock. I'd recommend consulting with a local car audio shop, I'm sure they can help out.

I have an lc2i loc from a previous vehicle install. Seems like it isn't totally necessary and I can install using high output speaker lines. Is it worth the extra effort to install the LC2i loc?
Probably not worth the extra effort. I did use them to get cleaner sound to the amp and it let me adjust the gain. Totally up to you if you want to use them or not.

Does it fit in vw polo Spare tyre size R15? And should we remove the tyre after installation?
No idea, sorry...the Polo is smaller than a Golf IIRC - check out the diameter from the product website and see it it will fit yours. In this application for the Atlas, the sub fits inside the area where it would be with the Fender audio package. The spare sits below the sub.

How do you ensure, that the bass is synchron with the rest of the sound system? Sorry if it is a stupid question, I have honestly absokutely no idea how this works, but I might wanna bux it in a month or so and I know of a friend of mine that had to do it quite conplicated. He had to buy a new input via bluetoothy which splits the sound, one for the sound system of the car and one for the subwoofer, so it REALLY is synchron. But he can't use the default inputs Where would I wire it in a 2016 VW Golf 7? Can I link it up directly to the sound system?
Might want to take it to an automotive audio shop, they will be able to help you and also install it!

Really great video! I need to do something similar for my 72 Bus. I'm just curious, you removed the three bolts on either side to lower the engine onto a jack so that the firewall clears the engine tin. Did you not have to remove any bolts on the bell housing? Or just those six bolts?
Thanks! Yes, I dropped the mustache bar by unbolting the three bolts on each side and supported the engine on jackstands. I also disconnected the shift linkage and dropped the front of the trans by loosing the front trans mount, and that helped drop the engine/trans down enough to pull the firewall. The front engine tin fought me a little but I got past it with some kind words :)

How does this spare tire sub compared to its competitor, the Cerwin-Vega VPAS12ST? The latter is currently $320 while the JBL Basshub Pro is over a hundred dollars more at $460.
I couldn't tell you, since I don't have any experience with the CV. What I can say is that this JBL is great and exceeds my expectations.

Is the speaker flushed in the trunk. Or does it come up high and unlevels the trunk.
It's flush to the tray, but doesn't touch the bottom of the cargo. It's a good fit, no interference.

Loved the GLI, but I traded it in on a GTI. Very similar cars, same MQB platform, I just wanted a sportier hatch that supports more aftermarket performance mods.
Did you replace the stock speakers as well on the Atlas? Stock speakers sound horible to me?
Still stock...I agree they could sound better, maybe it's my next upgrade!
@@countdowngarage i replaced the front speakers with JL Audio C5 650 components on stock headunit, no amplifier or dsp added. Just replaced speakers. But not happy with the investment. Those were expensive set of speaker around 650+ installtion charges. As per Crutchfield these are one of the fine and warm speakers in market. But not happy with them. Any rexommnedations for speakers which sound warm. Not looking for puncy sound.
@@vipinarora6577 You may need an amp to power those speakers. The stock speakers were not very loud at all.
You need a LC2 or if you using stock head unit. The factory radio has bass roll off when u turn it high
Sweet setup, I've been debating for a few weeks between this sub and the cerwin vega. Your thoughts?
I think they are very similar, the JBL has 50W more RMS, but that really shouldn't matter much for the punch or sound. The price is better on the CV over the JBL. I'd be interested to see it installed and a real world comparison!
If tried both, and took them apart to see the build differences. The JBL is MUCH more capable, and better built. It exceeds is specifications while the CV dosen't even meet theirs.
Would this be "plug and play" if I have the current Fender sub already in place? Just looking for more "umph" in the factory system. Thanks!
Probably not plug and play, but may be easier to modify and install than no subwoofer.
