Incredibly interesting, thank you! Live in the local area and have just seen a part of it I walk by regularly but would never see for myself. Really enjoyed that. Makes you realise there is a whole world nearby that we walk by without realising or investigating that is integral to our daily lives.
Thank you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it and found it interesting 😀
That has got to be the prettiest tunnel portal I've seen - the care and attention that went into these industrial structures is amazing.
even after watching Ashtons reeboot it still blows me away how many times i have driven over this
Hidden in plain sight
@@helenawanders dont even go down that avenue lol
👍😊❤️
Nothing like that 3 cylinder rhythm of a Bulleid 💪
Just discovered your channel and it’s brilliant. 👍🏼
Thank you, will have something coming soon hopefully. Please don't be put off by the lack of videos 🙏
Imagine the poor beggers who laid all them bricks!
A very long and hard task for sure
Stay strong. You're doing well. If liking trains and abandoned rail lines is weird, then you're in great company,
When you set off do you know you’ll be able to get out at the end; no barred exit? Quite brave!
I honestly can't remember if we researched the other end, I don't think we dis because we knew it eventually comes out in the river but we didn't estimate how deep it would get which is why we didn't go any further and got out where we did. Waders job and a big stick to test the depth for the next bit 😂
Literally stepping into the past! Thanks for taking us along! 😺
Love and light from Dudley ❤️
Could you circle on the old and new map where this is in Netherton
As kids we used to explore the tunnel opposite this one, accessed from Butternab, it came out just below Beaumont Park. It’s no longer accessible as there is housing at the Butternab end and the Beaumont Park side was banked up with earth. We also found the old flue that led from the mill in Armitage Bridge mills to the Chimney in the woods at the top of Bank Foot Lane. This was back in the mid eighties before urban exploration was a thing. Films like The Goonies were our inspiration. It’s great to see people are still exploring these lost places.
I've been in that flue you mentioned.. I remember dropping into a hole in the tunnel then it went up a black sooty stone lined tube to the bottom of inside of the chimney like you said. Full of 70s graffiti and beer tins!
I'll have to try and find the flue, I know of the chimney in the woods. Thanks for your comment
I've done Butternab at night without any lights, torches etc whilst heavily under the influence of fun little mushrooms back in the early 80's.... That was extremely fun. I believe there is a tunnel between Hill Top Res and Scammonden Res, that's sometimes accessible. But the best in Huddersfield I found was looking up the overflow a Scammy dam or standing towards the bottom of the dams observation tower with steps down into the water or up to the top of the tower!
I enjoyed this video. I'm from Huddersfield originally and never knew this existed. Great work! take care 😊👍
Thank you for watching!
Love the cat!
An excellent video. Thoroughly enjoyed it, Helena. Thank you.
Incredible. Thankyou.
I use to have a cow with a ring in its nose.
Be nice. Try it you maybe surprised.
Oh dear. Are you ok? To leave a childish comment like this you’re obviously not. Take a long hard look at yourself and ask why as a person you find it ok to be so pathetic. Have the day you deserve.
I like cows so I have no problem with that, have a nice day
Did you ever have any manners though? Do better.
You're talking Bullocks .
Thanks for that great tunnel explore Helena , really enjoyed that one 🐸
Thank you so much 😁
Your amazing keep up the great work
Truly beautiful video...😊

Thank you, nice to see a fellow explorer here!
Did you like the IOW??
Loved the Isle of Wight, still have more videos to make from there
@@helenawanders aw excellent, there are some amazing places over here especially in the summer
Thanks for the tour! As a kid, we used to do the same types of walk around. When you found the brick side tunnel, that was quite interesting, as that was possibly a storm drain open to a stream originally, but now the stream is covered for quite a way! Which is very similar to the culverts we used to explore as kids! The only difference tho, is ours were of the concrete tubes only, no brick or other stone work. Once in a while you could find a stream covered in the corrugated metal as you had in one portion of your trek. What perseverance! I would have turned around at that point when you had to duck walk under the concrete, but it was nice it opened back up! Today, the culverts I explored are barred up and you can't get in, and trash plugs up the bars quite often, making the water too deep to walk through any more. Kids today might not think of trying to find the source or end of a stream anymore, but we had many adventures trying 50 years ago! The sad story of the baby is one of those types of stories we hear from the past, and unfortunately, is one that happens time and again even today. But it looked like fun! It brought back many memories for me! Thanks again!
Thank you, I'll remember that on my next culvert explore, happy to bring back memories for you 😊
I keep seeing all these amazing tunnels in Notts! I’m born and bred here and have always had an interest in abandoned or derelict places! I need to visit some of these tunnels. Just need to find a partner to join me because when you’ve seen as many horror films as me you definitely aren’t venturing there alone 😂. Great content x
Mapperely Tunnel is rumoured to haunted by a ghost train so definitely don't be venturing alone!
You shouldn't care what other people think, you are your own person and the world is your oyster, carry on what you're doing, we love you
Podders scrap yard chucked most of that crap down the shaft, they had a yard next to the shaft, they sold the land to Barratt homes around 30 years ago
25:08 That pipe will be a CSO (combined sewer overflow), its used to relieve the pressure on the sewer system when there is heavy rainfall. Usually CSOs are out in the open beside river banks, but there will be just as many that discharge into culverts like that one! Typically, CSOs are also meant to have some kind of penstock flap or trash screen on the front to catch all the wipes and litter but some of them are just open pipes like this one, suppose it depends on how old they are. Fascinating really , as you get to see the old Victorian style brickwork!!
Ah that's so interesting to know, I love to learn new things and I'll learn to look out for them in the future 😊 thank you so much!
Abandoning an infant so it dies was and still is one of the worst crimes anyone could commit. Classed as murder in the eyes of the law. Really sad.
Truly sad 😔
Amazing brickwork 🤩
That's fabulous. Perfect position. That has made my morning.
Helena Rumour. Not Rumor🌝
I realised after I posted, noted. Thank you 😊
No one does history quite like Britain we have such an amazing history but so much is hidden and forgotten. Thanks for bringing some of it to light with your great vids. I hope you keep exploring..if you run out of tunnels our old churches are always interesting. Thanks for the hard work by all three of you.
Wonderful. Love these explorations it is so interesting. I hope you do many more.
Hello from Idaho USA just started watching your show & I like it very much please keep exploring your area to show us the trails, tunnels, & sights around. Keep a smile on your face your doing great. thanks again DTM
I was expecting you and Leah to run across the field and scale one of the vents then abseil into the tunnel lol..all jokes aside..wonderful vids..really enjoying them.
❤❤😊😊😮 need to sleep there in my tent😊
😮😮❤❤❤😊😊love it!
Your channel needs more watchers❤❤😮😊
The pillar of trash was interesting indeed , neat old tunnel, nice pics.
hey thanks for the cool walk through a tunnel somewhere in the world. let us know more about the history if you can find it.
Wow, was Born and Breda nearby. Never been in there
I wonder why it was put down there and what was inside the caravan before it was dumped there and 50 years worth of rubbish added on top? ⚠️🤔😲 I'd also love yo know what is above the 'crap.stack' at ground level and why people think it's a rubbish dump, it must be fairly accessible to have so much rubbish and a caravan out down there? Great video, appreciate your rummage around the yucky contents of the stack, those McDonald's toys were cute, such a shame!
Hi there. The ventilation shaft is clearly visible above ground. It's in the back garden of the Pepperpots Scout Hut (look it up on Google Earth, you'll see it easily). My theory is that people would just drive into the yard and dump stuff down it. From the look of things it's mainly decorators and contractors.
@@lorisarvendu Yeah I figured it was a ventilation shaft but they tend to build them quite high, like a turreted chimney and make a feature of it like a tower structure so they are inaccessible to people throwing things down there, especially when the trains were running. I just wondered why this one in particular is used to dump things and not the others?🤔😲 Appreciate your insight and the location of the shaft above ground.👍
Did you solve the rumor? Whatever it was.
Yes @ 😊12:57!
Fascinating...it occurred to me that I'd like to have that little metal teapot away and upcycle it as a plant container...sad but true 😉 I don't think I'd dare pull anything from that stack..who knows how stable it is, or isn't!!!
Great video 👍💯😎
Another awesome vid. Can't believe the amount of rubbish down that ventilation shaft!
What an absorbing video! Someone has already beaten me to it in the comments but that music at the end is sublime, so serene.
