Ported Husqvarna 55 "mild build" vs nasty ported Husqvarna 55 "race edition"
Just a little side by side of a mild ported 55 vs my nasty ported heavily modified race saw. Both of which have new chains and are running off rec 90 fuel. The first one is an Oregon 3/8 version and the super modified version is running a stihl 23rs chain. Both chains are full chisel full comp chains.

ported Husqvarna 55 vs Brisco ported echo 4910

Husky 55 and echo 4910 start with new out of the box Stihl 23RS chains and the 55 finishes out the comparison with my own hand grind "race" chain that clearly needs more work. My chain started as an Oregon full comp full chisel .325 chain. I still need to get the raker taken down which I didn't do because I wanted to see how my grind self fed. Coming soon is my finished race chain! I hope I cam...

Had a blast bashing at the track! Rated-R "earthquake fully modified w/shredder suspension", redcat caldera "green/silver", kaiju, and maverick quantum flux buggy in this video. Super cool little track and we all were testing the new jumps. Thanks a bunch to Josh/Nicole for pitting all the time into getting the track ready for some fun.
Maverick Quantum Flux spur gear replacement.

Redcat Kaiju Ext 4s bash and breakage!
great vid man. instead of giving it throttle i just rolled the front and back wheels and saw only the front wheels kept locking up. but i took it out and saw no teeth missing and plenty of grease so kinda stuck again lol
Did you take the differential out and make sure all the bearings were in good shape?
What cylinder on the 55? Open or Closed??
Open port, 46mm aftermarket cylinder. It's a replacement / cheap cylinder from ebay.
I got lucky and snagged briscos recently blind ported 4910. Freaking amazing saw.
Nasty little thing isn't it!? I love mine. It's one mean running machine for sure.
@ragercrepair9301 oh yeah. I have a really good running stock version and buy really good running I mean really freaking good running it runs better stock than any I've ever seen on the internet and in a timed cut it still beat that's all by 7 seconds with the same chain it's like a 34% difference. Was only 3 seconds slower than my 500i. I stuck a long hard to watch video of that on my channel lol. It's gotten a little faster since break-in I'm going to put one of those a2 designs air filter setups on it like my stock one and then give them another test.
@Mightycaptain when you get the filter on, put that against the 500i and see how she compares! I'll bet it's super close!
👍🆙RRR
Thanks man. She's a little ripper and turned out great! I'm working on another build and I'm going a little wild and pushing a lot of limits on this one. I'm hope it doesn't hang a ring, but boy it's going to be living on the edge.
@ragercrepair9301 👊 I'll be @ 2 check it out!
Heck ya buddy👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks man. She's doing better lol.
Nice speedy cut ,I like my rakers way down.
My rakers are about 30 thousands. I'm thinking I might change the angle of the tooth and see what happens there. Time will tell. Thanks. They cut damn well.
What species is getting cut on?
I really wanted to say hard pine to be a smartass, but I'm pretty sure this is Douglas furr. It's been dead leaning for about a year so it's still solid, but the bark was coming off. I tried to strip is clean so I wasn't eating up chains with dirt.
@ragercrepair9301 the bark had me curious about it. The wood definitely looks like a softwood species, but the bark looks more like a hardwood type species to me at least. Great running 55!
@@REpowersaws24 thanks man. When I went to get the logs for testing I knew it was a pine, but not sure about the type. I have a bunch of it to test with and it makes great bonfire cookies lol. It pulls the saws down really hard. Makes then lug more than hardwood, so I like using it for testing speed and power. Also works great for testing different chain grinds. I have a special chain I'm working on. Hopefully it works well. I appreciate the nice comments on the saw. Been perfecting that chassis for a while and I think it's finally paying off!
Nice man, that 2nd one is a good bit stronger.
Thanks man. That one has a shit ton of work done to it do get it to that level.
I'm new to porting but finger ports are next on my list lol
Finger ports help a lot in the right application. If you don't have enough carb to feed them, they don't help a lot. With the bigger carb and enough intake, they wake a saw up a whole lot!
@ragercrepair9301 nice...I will remember this...I have a 51 case that someday I'll get a splitter and rebuild lol
@brandonf1226 You don't need a splitter. Just tap the crank with a brass hammer and shell slide right apart. I hope you get to it!
You can see the echo get faster after the first cut, I believe I didn't give it a chance to build enough heat before this test.
Nice man. Your chain is cutting good, square filed? I’ve been trying square with the triangle files, it’s a little tricky but going to try the double bevel file next. Just bought some.
Thanks. The first two cuts were 23rs on both saws. The last cut is special square/hexa/round hybrid I'm working on. The rakers are way to tall and it wasn't self feeding so I'll be filing those down some and getting back with an update video hopefully this weekend.
Hell ya man! They all run great! Deff big improvement on the 55 from the older video.
Haha thanks man! That Brisco ported 4910 is a damn beast, but that chain has about 4 tanks of fuel on it and it really needs sharpened. The 550xp is a damn good runner and handles the 3/8 chain quite nicely. The 55 has been a 2 year project to get where it is just trying new things. I was trying to get it up in the race category because they are extremely hard to make fast. I'm going back in it after a few more videos and some testing to try something a very good porter told me to try. I'm hoping to raise my rpm range another 1500 up top to get that speed I'm looking for. Hopefully I won't lose any low end torque. Thanks man I appreciate the nice comment!
@@ragercrepair9301 ya Brisco is a hell of a builder!
@@BuckYaSaws yes he is. I have 2 saws he's done up and they are kick ass!
Nice man, that 2nd one was stronger.
Yes it was. The second one is what's now my race saw.!
i love my redcat shredder. the most reliable rig ive ever had. I just dont hand my controller to anyone or im straight out of pocket for a steering servo. although since i put the old 1/5 scale servo from my DBXL in it i've never replaced it (never handed the controller over since then either). great advice here i used it on my xmaxx to see what diff needed shimming.
@ragercrepair9301 I’m building Xmaxx diffs right now. Another thing I’m looking at is shimming the output/sun gear-(the ones that mesh with your spider gears) On the ex Max, you will have a potential issue with little to no clearance between your outdrive cups and the differential housing if you’re not shimming correctly .
Many thanks
Hello..I just purchased mine...went out on a speed run today...mine wobbles bad when going 50 mph plus....do I need sway bars on mine to fix that? Thanks
The sway bars will help but the shake is most likely tires being out of balance. A good set of dboot backflips 4s version. Huge gain in control and speed.
i'm surprised no one sells a center diff with the metal gear already installed.
you're very brave to do that over a deck where those tiny screws could easily fall between the wood and be lost forever.
Sweet I’ve been wanting one of those but I keep finding other cars to buy
I am really struggling to remove the spur gear and the pinion gear to replace them. Any tips?
Thanks, I wish I had have watched this one first as one of the other guides skipped the whole centre driveshaft and took off way more parts than were required.
Thankyou for the kind comment. I hope you get everything in order!
@@ragercrepair9301all buttoned up and ready for the 9 year old pilot the find the next weakest link in the morning 😅
i saw that same rubbish video lol. Great job on this one, much better!
@@zombi303 thankyou
Thank you, Bro!
my car screams wen i throttle up , i am not experienced with rc pro cars what could it be
What wheelie bar and bumper are you using? They look way more durable than the stock one. Also this is great info! I saw your other video with the shims for the diff. Did you ever add the diff lube and silicone? How'd it turn out?
Do you remember what size is the Universal joint?
I think it was 5mm bore on each end. I'll check when I get home and verify.
@@ragercrepair9301 thanks. I just bought 2 of these used. They are in good condition. But seller said he keeps breaking cvds on the one with a lot of upgrades. Do you think if I follow your upgrades and put those better cvds(RCAWS have noce ones for $17 for 4), would it be ok? Also he mentioned that the one upgraded hard to control. Any ideas?
@@ragercrepair9301 Were you able to verify?
@@TurKFXI I'm sorry sir I cannot seem to find the other one I had. I have since given the car to my nephew so I may be able to find out what I used when I see him tomorrow. I will continue looking for the new one I had in the mean time.
@TurKFXI the ones I used were 5mm on each end. I found the extra one I had. I used a shredder center diff shaft and a diff cut for a backdraft 8e at the motor side. They all fit well. You have to cut the dogbone off the front half of the shaft and grind a flat for the grub screw. Sorry I was digging trying to find all the things I used. I believe I used a shredder rear/center driveshaft. I hope this helps!
Where did you get the aluminum housing? It doesn't exist on the Redcat website.
It's discontinued now. You'll have to get it from Amazon or ebay.
@@ragercrepair9301 thanks
My front diff is clicking I have checked the teeth on the soft and the Center diff no teeth missing but I found that it had no grease in the diff part do u rekon this could be the cause of the grinding ???
Very good possibility. I would make sure it has grease. The front axle shafts also can click if the ball end at the wheel is worn out.
same issue with me but i saw plenty of grease so not surewhat else it could be :/
Would this hold up for bigger cars like an xmaxx ?
I would say double the size of the pvc and use wood for an xmaxx. They are very heavy and will destroy this one. It's more for 10th scale and some 8th scale. The bigger trucks should really have wood.
I Have one and mine will do 65 upgraded programmed 150amp spectrtrum esc and a 2050KV spectrum motor .....17 tooth motor gear ..
If I could keep a set of tires on mine, I'm sure I have the capability of hitting 70+. But I've blown up several tires trying to achieve that. Lol. I'll get there eventually.
@@ragercrepair9301 have u tried steel belted tires ...how I was able to stick mine ...but yes 60and up your ballooning like cray
@@billycurdie8473 I have tried a set of proline belted street tires and they work well, but I can't get a big enough pinion in it to run them. The ballooning is like an extra gear, sorta like a dragster. I'm building a new motor mount assembly to offset the issue now that I have a lathe. That's helping a lot. The entire center diff assembly will be custom made. I'll be showing all that work really soon. Then I'll lower the ride height and get it down nice and low. That should help a ton too.
@@ragercrepair9301 that sucks ...ya I have a 69 Camaro losi dragster..lot of fun ...
@@billycurdie8473 I'm hoping to build a dragster someday. We'll see how it goes. But I want the real deal. Not an RC lol
Stated watching you guys a few years ago when I bought a Redcat volcano you had a lot of good advice now I have a sledge and a Maxx and x Maxx to many to list all of them
Thanks for supporting us! I appreciate the opportunity to share my knowledge and I hope you got something out of it. Keep the hobby alive!
Love the camera crew!
Thanks that's usually my daughter!
Wow looks nice
Are you as sissy lol my arm hurts look like fun
Where did you get the wheelie bar
Got it from tbone racing which is no longer in business. I don't think there other options now.
What extended Wheel hubs are you using on your shredder? Thanks, and your videos are awesome.
The hub extention kit isn't available anymore from what I can find. I have an extra set I would consider selling.
I've just assembled this same diff for my Nitro HSP Sonic and have the opposite problem. The aluminum case is so tight the new differential assembly barely rotates. The bearings are seated properly in the case. Any suggestions?
I have had to take the shims out front behind the bearings on the diff and put it on the opposite side to adjust the mesh on some of the aluminum cases. If that doesn't work use some sand paper and sand where the outer bearing race sits against the case. That should help.
@@ragercrepair9301 thanks, there's no shims anywhere so it looks like I'm removing material. Good video BTW 👍✌
@@TheKylecrx thanks bro. I try to be informative.
I enjoy all of your shredder repair videos. You seem to be very sincere in just wanting to help people out and share your knowledge
Thankyou. I really just want to teach as much as I can. I appreciate support and viewers that see that.
So idk if your still responding to comentes still but i cant figure iut the losi baja rey diffs it ginds on all 4 wheeles still idk im having a hard time with it
So I haven't actually been inside the losi baja Rey but I can't imagine it's much different than any other model. Does the baja have a center diff?
Great idea using the universal joint. There isn't a lot of room on the chassis for a center diff. It sure would be cool if you can pull it off. I have not had issues with my center drive shaft but I can see how it binds up at the front cup. I have all kinds of issues with bending stock dogbones and I'm still looking for an upgrade for them. Thanks for sharing this awesome setup. 👍
The bearings come out pretty easy?
How do you fix it
Helpful info thanks
You can also use a little O ring in one of the cups and it'll shut it up. It doesn't wear when it's quiet.
Good to know thankyou
Isn't it amazing how narrow the street gets?
MR85RS-BL-1 is the Amazon # for bearings? I couldn't find them on there but did find some that were close 8mm by 5mm by 2.5mm...do you think those would work or does it have to be the ones you mentioned? Thanks in advance.
The size in the video is the correct size, but with some small shims anything close will work as long as the ID and OD are the same.
That transmission is very exposed. One hard landing it's trashed
The spur gear is protected with a shield and support brackets front and rear. It should be very strong on hard landings.
Its nice to see that us caldera owners arent the only ones out here having to come up with creative solutions to poor design choices. The earthquake 8e center differential made my caldera MT handle so much better
I agree. Sometimes you have to come up with some new ideas to make older things keep on working! Plus improving performance is always a must!
Hey man thanks for the video Btw what kind of bumper you used underneath and the wheelies??
You're welcome! The bumpers front and rear were a brand called Tbone Racing. Unfortunately they are no longer in business. I'm not sure if anything comparable is available now. I will see what I can find.
Very cool, I’d sure like to take a lap or two on that old track.
Hey my traxxas slash is concerning me, when I spin one wheel, the other one on the opposite side of the axis is supposed to spin in the opposite direction off the ground, but it doesn’t do that, idk if that means that my differential is broken, BUT I did round out my spur gear due to sand
Is this a 4x4 or 2wd model? If it's 2wd you should be able to hold either wheel and spin the other and the motor should turn. If it's 4x4, moving any wheel while keeping the remaining 3 still should turn the motor over. If only one wheel doesn't cause the motor to spin, its either in the driveline "axle pin, axle shaft ect" or a broken pin inside the diff/differential failure.
