Blackbird and his offspring in the garden
Просмотров 452Месяц назад
Not only do I love my finches, I also really love wild birds. This winter I have provided a lot of food for great tits, blue tits, long-tailed tits, sparrows, robins, blackbirds, etc. One bird in particular sticks in my mind, a male blackbird. He has become so used to the mealworms that I offer him twice a day that he just sits there waiting at the feeding place and tries to get my attention by...
Recap of the first 10 days with the long-tailed finches
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Месяц назад
It's already ten days since the long-tailed finches arrived in the aviary. They are absolutely fantastic and I already had a lot of fun with them. The aviary is still a bit barren, but I have planted all the plants and it's now only a matter of time before it becomes a green oasis. The birds will have even more fun!
long-tailed finches already started building a nest
Просмотров 3122 месяца назад
I actually wanted to let them wait a little longer so that they would be in optimal breeding condition, but today the finches already started building their nests. The birds are still young and it is the first time they are building a nest, so they are still a bit clumsy. The bird with the red ring is the male, the one with the green ring is the female. I will make more videos in the coming day...
Long-tailed Finches introduced in the aviary
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.2 месяца назад
After many many years of keeping kakarikis, today I'm starting something completely different. I just introduced Long-tailed finches into the aviary. Although I used to keep them before, that was almost 20 years ago. They were my absolute favorite birds at the time, so I'm extremely excited to welcome them back. It is also a motivation to make videos of the birds again, because I haven't done t...

My entertaining Kakarikis in the aviary. They were once widespread in New-zealand but now confined to Stewart Island/Rakiura and a number of offshore islands. They are considered vulnerable by the IUCN and BirdLife International because the remaining populations are highly fragmented

    After keeping and breeding many parakeet species over the years, the kakariki are my all time favourite. Their colours, personality and ease of keeping are amazing. I emigrated from the uk 17 years ago and so have not been able to keep them. I am returning this year and my dream is to have an aviary with kakariki, budgies and created partridge. ❤

    Could I have some advice pls..I have 2 karkariki's and am finding it hard to find the right seed mix..I give them the small parrot mix and when I refresh the seed everyday they jump in the container and kick most of the seed out..its like they don't like most of it and r searching for there favourite seed..it drives me crazy because there is sooo much seed that goes to waste..or is that just normal behaviour ? I give them all the extra stuff like fruit etc Could some tell me what seed mix they use ! Thank you...:)

    • @ellasanimals2849
      @ellasanimals2849 6 лет назад

      maria elhassan well first off parrots shouldn’t have seeds as their main diet. Pellets are a staple. You can have seeds as treats or to have when converting to pellets. Just see what they like best :)

  • @Artoo84

    Sorry for the late reaction! You could try that, they surely won't kill each other :p, but I would personally not do that because for a kakariki, everything that moves is interesting. Especially if the moving thing is the same species :). so she would probably only disturb the other pair. It's better if you keep them in pairs. And in my opinion, you get the best result when you keep in pairs without other birds.
