Aberdeenshire Coastal Path in Scotland (& Using Public Transport while Solo Traveling)
Gosh I am a little rusty on vlogging for sure!
But... if you can see past that, here's a little vlog I made for a solo adventure I went on at the Aberdeenshire Coastal Path in Scotland. I'm also sharing some tips for using public transport while solo traveling because I know it can be a little daunting at first.
Thanks so much for watching and supporting my channel - we just got over 2k subscribers!

    Metals and clear glass are worth recycling, provided you collect enough of them for it to be worth the logistical cost of transporting them to the recycle place. (Don't, like, drive two miles to turn in one pop can. Be realistic.) Paper *can* be worth recycling if you can easily collect a lot of it in bulk and make it into ugly brown cardboard. (Trying to make it into white paper is not worth the environmental costs of what you have to do to get rid of the ink.) But most households are not efficient sources of recyclable paper, and it's not worth expending a lot of energy (vehicle fuel, human labor, etc.) collecting it all from every individual household. Office buildings, yes. Homes, no, unless you produce a LOT of paper trash. Plastic, with a couple of very special exceptions, is not recyclable in practice, and 99% of the plastic that is collected for recycling, worldwide, never actually gets recycled, because the technology to recycle it does not exist. The most common thing that happens is, it gets shipped to a third-world country where regulations and oversight are not very thorough and someone signs off on "yes, absolutely, it was all recycled" and then it is just disposed of it a landfill or incinerator. If there's one bin for plastic and you throw all different kinds of plastic in there, 100% that is what is happening, someone is lying and it is not actually being recycled. A *few* places in the world have special plastic incinerators that are carefully designed to have minimal emissions and recover as much of the energy as possible to generate electricity on the grid; if you randomly happen to live in an area that has that, maybe it's worth separating the plastic out for that. Otherwise, it's better to throw it away in the first world, where environmental regulations are substantial and landfills and incinerators are carefully regulated, than to send it to a (usually tax-subsidized) recycle center that's going to pay some company in a country with no such regulations, to lie about recycling it. There is such a thing as real plastic recycling, but it has major limitations, the most important of which is, the plastic collected has to all be exactly the same kind of plastic, and there are *hundreds* of different kinds. Each type of plastic has different properties (in terms of what temperatures and pressures cause it to melt, decompose, or burn, among other things), so there's no such thing as a recycling process that can be used on a bin of mixed plastics. There is talk of using AI and robotics to sort the plastic by type, and maybe that will happen in the future, but for the time being it remains impracticable. The most common type of actual real plastic recycling, is those school projects where they have all the students collect and turn in a whole bunch of exactly the same thing (typically, plastic milk jugs), and then somebody (usually the science teacher) takes them to the recycle place, and the school writes a check for a nice chunk of change, and the employees at the recycle place go through the whole pile and make sure there isn't anything in there that will screw up the whole batch (i.e., anything except the exact type of plastic it's all supposed to be), and then it all gets washed and rinsed and dried and melted down and made into a thing (typically, a park bench or picnic table or something), which eventually makes its way back to the school, usually the following school year, where it gets put somewhere with a plaque on it explaining that it was made from recycled plastic collected by the students for Earth Day or whatever, and the date. This is real, but it relies absolutely on the plastic all being the same kind, and also, it pretty consistently costs more than just buying a non-recycled thing (park bench or whatever), so it only happens when the whole point of the exercise is to publicly demonstrate that plastic can be recycled and have a concrete reminder of the project that can be shown off for years to come. If someone at the recycle center tells you that all the mixed plastics you turn in are going to be melted down and made into picnic tables and stuff, they may or may not know that it's a lie, but it's a lie.

    Katie, I just saw you for the first time on a channel run by a Brit, and thought I'd stop by to say, "Good job, and thanks for the compliments." Re. point #10, neither of us could figure out what you actually said as an intro to it. However, I think I got the meaning through what you said. Did I understand you to say that there's a credit card minimum in Aussie land, such that if you want to buy something under the minimum, you have to buy a 2nd. item in order to get the first? If correct, is that because Australia is a cashless society, or because you never carry any cash with you?

    • @KatieShowBlog
      @KatieShowBlog 10 дней назад

      Well I should start by saying I haven't lived there for 11 years now, so things may have changed. But when I was in Aus, correct there was a minimum spend at most places to be able to use a credit or debit card. So for eg. if you wanted to buy something for $7 but the minimum spend for card was $10, you'd have to either buy something else to make your total go over $10 or pay with cash. It was just because banks charge businesses fees for processing card payments (maybe those fees were higher than in the US?) so businesses didn't want to pay the fees for low purchase amounts. But like I said, it might be completely different now. Hope that makes more sense!

    I been here my whole life. Fayetteville well technically Godwin 😂 and maybe I'm just used to all the crack heads and the lifestyle so it doesn't bother me at all. 😂 But u made me laugh so hard and I concur that you are probably not wrong about the dislikes. My road rage is massive and I see I am not alone in how I feel on that spectrum. But the diversity and the love of sharing our state from us Fayetteville people probably has much to do with fort Bragg. So many diff people from all over in and out. Majority of Fayetteville most likely aren't even born here. Imo. But I never hated it. I love it! Moved to Wilmington for ten years and couldn't wait to get back. Truth! So I'm glad u found us inviting bc I deff think we are. Hope life blesses you in so many more ways! Ur amazing. Thanks for ur videos!

    I live in Fayetteville on Cliffdale road. This place is a DUMP.. There is crime everywhere. Homeless everywhere. I live in a gated neighborhood and the homeless live by the pond in the gazebo. There is nothing here except car dealerships and restaurants. Only reason why I'm here is because I inherited a home. They don't call it Fayetnam for nothing.

      People are better off living in Harnett County in the country. Don't go to Fayetteville for shopping. Go to Lillington. Much nicer, friendly country people. I grew up in Harnett County. I'm moving to Mexico to start a farm and open a small general good store. And people say Mexico is bad but there aren't blk people there.. I don't care what anyone says. They turned Fayetteville into a ghetto.. Drive down Bragg BLVD at night.. Blk dudes built like basketball players wearing mini skirts and makeup getting picked up by your military husbands for quickies.. Thats why they all gather near the base.

    Ah, yes...Skibo. Sky🎀 is the pronunciation. It's Scottish I usually hear it as ⛷️🎀 Skee-bow from non locals Fayetteville is definitely making efforts to clean up it's act. Theres been quite a bit that divided the area throughout its history (including laws not allowing the area to expand, so it's very non cohesive) I haven't checked out your blog yet, but if you're interested in a history adventure, the downtown history museum is worth the trip. It won't necessarily explain the horrendous driving. It's not strictly an American thing, there's definitely something different in a bad way about the Fayetteville drivers 😅

    Here's rule of thumb for North Carolina. Do your homework thoroughly on the politicians and their policies. This is actually becoming a hitler ran State pay attention to the new laws that I've been coming across. You will see the prejudice taken a ride away from women. Gerry mandering like crazy. Pay attention to where you're moving at tons of corruption in the political realm. And it is not for the people
