Part of a series of demos I recorded for solo viola and electronics. The electronic element is a loop/effects patch I programmed in Max. I'm using a MIDI keyboard as a foot controller to trigger everything. I originally wrote this piece for string orchestra, which I got performed as part of the Dog Star festival in LA in 2023 - you can find that video at:

In this solo rendition, I focus on finding the line between establishing a beat and obscuring it, creating pushes and pulls in the pulse with a loop, building up an ocean of layers while maintaining distinct identity, among other things.
