Punched Paper Tape Reader w/Arduino
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 года назад
This video documents the journey I took while building a punched computer tape reader and experimenting with various tapes I had purchased online. The paper tapes revived a long-gone era of computers and the history of the people and companies who made all this happen. The exceptional design of the paper tape reader is by Jürgen Müller. It uses a SparkFun Pro Micro processor, running at 16 MHz,...
Arduino Hewlett-Packard HP-25 RPN Simulator
Просмотров 2742 года назад
This is an attempt to reproduce the functionality of the 1975 Hewlett-Packard HP-25 RPN programmable calculator. The program was written for an Arduino Mega 2560 with a 3.5" TFT LCD shield. All functions of the calculator have been replicated, including registers and programming capability. The Arduino Simulator operates exactly as the HP-25. I have included enough examples to demonstrate its c...

Analog TV Signal on SONY Watchman
Просмотров 1 тыс.3 года назад
An attempt to confirm that a SONY Watchman TV I found is still operational. Analog out (video-yellow and audio-white) from an early digital camera was converted via an RF Modulator to a TV signal (channel 4 frequency) and connected via alligator clips to the SONY's antenna. It worked! Video: The Great Gig In The Sky, Pink Floyd. ruclips.net/video/kK0rpKOEAt0/видео.html
Converting Composite Video to Oscilloscope Signal
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.3 года назад
This is a project that was started by w2aew. It takes a Composite video signal (yellow RCA connection, if you remember) and converts it to X-Y voltages that are then fed into an Oscilloscope. In essence, the oscilloscope is used as a low-resolution monitor. I was intrigued when I saw the original posting located at: ruclips.net/video/yf4kOMSPbM0/видео.html Following Alan's schematic was easy, b...
I final found it 🎉
Any chance you still have that code kicking around?
Yes, I do. It needed a bit work, but I have been distracted. Give me a couple of days and I will put it up online.
How sir it work
Check the original video in the link I have above. There is a whole article on how to construct it.
I wonder if it is possible for an Arduino write into paper also and what would be needed to do it so?

@@up2tech Not sure what you mean by "write".
I still have a shoebox full of my programming class tapes from '73-'74, and a few from the next school year. In BASIC or FORTRAN. May build a reader some day.
Nixie calculator is nice.
So cool
Very nice work

One Saturday in the late 70’s I thought I wanted to play a game of Battleship. After toggling in the bootloader, I started loading my copy of 12K MS basic paper tape. That was 45 minutes, and it came to READY. Next, I started the load of Battleship paper tape. That was another 45 minutes, and that too came to READY. Then the power to the apartment blinked. I then left the apartment in disgusted to do something else. The next board I bought was an auto tape interface. That lasted for about a month or two and after that was a floppy drive system (90K). The tapes featured in this comment are lost in some box somewhere in this house and someday I might even find it amongst other things. The Altair 8080 resurrection is going great.
I would love to read the tapes on my (Arduino-based) Altair 8080!
@@TellyS100 As I said, they are part of a deep search that on going. I have a ton of boxes to go through and no space to do it in!!! LOL They do need to be archived! Will get back to you.
❤
how you read EIA RS244-A and iso Punched Paper Tape code?
Are you referring to CNC punch tapes? The reader reads the "holes" and converts them to a code (ASCII in this case), but you could modify the code and output anything you want.
Imagine loading a game from this.
Even Zork I would probably require a 3-mile long tape!
@@TellyS100 Load Pong or any other early 2600 game, they’re at most 4kb.
Τέλειο!! Μπράβο σας!!
lovely clean implementation , well done. I picked up as as new HP25 at a metal junk shop yesterday for $2.
That was a really good find!
@@TellyS100 is code available ?
@@zukjeff I updated the description above with a link to download the code to Ver. 0.9. There is a little more work to get all functionality working. I will post a new version when available.
Wow..So close to real life working!
Mr. Wolke's video brought me here This is a nice job too!
Thank you. I was really glad when I saw it work.
