This sorta thing happens on the South Island of New Zealand, called a Nor'wester. New Zealand doesn't get that cold but it does get friged and frosty in the south island. When a wind comes in it dries out the dew and warms up about 10 degrees. Sometimes enough to turn the heating off.

Never been afraid to drive anywhere, except Calgary, crazy! Old cow town was amazing until the narcissists from Toronto moved in.

Calgary could have been beautiful, but it's turned into a shithole

My wife and I travelled the world (117 countries), and Canada was one of the places we looked at moving to a few years ago. It has a lot to offer but has really gone down hill, mostly due to poor government policy and mismanagement. This is apparent when you look at housing, unemployment rates, immigration, the environment, cost of living and so on. Canada’s immigration process is all about making people run through hoops to get to the finish line, rather than taking in educated / experienced / qualified individuals to sustain the local economy long term. On top of that, you get 8 days of leave a year (a real pittance), and you are essentially at the mercy of your employer because any additional days you accumulate over and above that are revoked if you get let off / move on to a different employer. Cut the long story short, we both decided to live elsewhere and use the generous time off we have to visit Canada instead if we wish to. The bottom line is, the world is a big place and Canada has lost a lot of its competitiveness, leaving the majority of people going for alternative options that are better suited.

The reality is that this past summer the smoke was hardly noticeable for most of the summer, and even on the days it was present you could only notice it as a slight Haze and not even smell it. Most of the time it was much higher up in the atmosphere where it creates a hazy sky. Even when the smoke has been at its worst over the last few summers, one could hardly describe it as toxic, and in fact I have gone out bike riding in it with no ill effects. It is unclear to me exactly what he thinks is toxic in Smoke from burning wood. If that were true, they would ban fires in all campgrounds.

Luke I Hundred percent agree with you generally people are poor in calgary and they always feels insecure because of high unemployment,I would say it is the most over rated city in North America.

It’s a great place to live, actually. And no, trees don’t have leafs for only 3 months. Almost twice as long. But this video is more emotional than factual. Yes there can be still snowfall in May, but it’s gone next day with warm temperature. It doesn’t make it a winter month.

It used to be a good city 10 years ago, but not now. Very expensive . Winter is tough and they do not clear snow. Roads are icy and dangerous driving in the winter. Dont move to Calgary. It is over hyped.

The smoke is bad in BC in the summers now too. SmokeAnogan and all through the interior and even Vancouver in the summers now.

I was born in Calgary in 1960 I have lived here all my life. Calgary was a great place to live up until Mayor Knothead Numbnuts came along. followed by Joti gotcrabs ruined this city through bad policy. Over imigration and property policy changes as well as waistful spending Have ruined Calgary. Infrastructure has been neglected and road planners have oppted for control instead of flow. So they build badly designed over passes with traffic lights on them the one true cloverleaf at Barlow and 16th ave in NE is the only correctly buit overpass, and it was built back in the 50's or 60's when engineers still had brains. You know pre comuter design.

Well, Luke you should have bought a house back when you came to Calgary. My wife and are retired and have checked out 43 countries personally. I don't live in Calgary but half way between Edmonton and Calgary. We retired here from the Lower Mainland of BC in early 2022. We planned to retire in Mexico in the winter every year and even tried it for 4 month in Puerto Vallarta. Glad we did and ruled it out completely and we even have Mexican in-laws. We have been traveling Europe by car for the last 6 weeks and I am in the Algarve as I write this. I have relatives in Budapest, friends in Treviso, family in Sheffield and have met and talked to many people living in various countries. Problems everywhere and possibly the worst in your native homeland. Sure Alberta has Trudeau (for now), cold winters and other problems. But I sure hate paying $2.70 or thereabouts for gas (it is 1/2 of that in Alberta), a euro to take a whiz in a bathroom, crazy tailgating drivers who think they are racing in the Gran Prix (even in roundabouts), toll roads everywhere, overpriced coffee at McDonalds if you can get anything decent for under $5, no Tim Hortons, paying about $1 for ketchup for my fries as an extra, having to hunt high and low for dairy coffee creamer and I can add more if you like. I prefer the wide open spaces of Central Alberta and can put up with the cold winters and sunny skies but agree with you about the smoke in the air. It has been a major problem for a while now and you can blame it on forest mismanagement by the Government of Canada - most on our current one as the forests a a tinder box because of all the dead wood left to rot there. Not climate change but forestry mismanagement of unbelievable proportions. Depending on your circumstances Alberta is a great place to live or not. The migrant invasion has already started and I am afraid life here will get just as bad as it is elsewhere in many parts of Canada.

I listened to a real estate, Igor from Ukraine and came over to Calgary after being in Asia for 14 years. Big mistake! I lost 43,000 dollars just from being unemployed for a year. You are absolutely right about the toxicity of PM2.5. Short term the wild fires may be alleviated by the predicted La Niña weather pattern that may come later this year, but long term, climate change should make Alberta drier year after year. It is true Calgary has long winters and increasing cost of living, but the real game stopper is the deteriorating air quality in my view.

I'm on the east and my asthma is completely out of control the last few years. The air pollution from all these fires is very real. I wake up having asthma attacks constantly now. I have to use my puffer just mowing the law. It's insane.

The only good thing Calgary has is clean water supply; now the city has a tyrant WEF mayor that is using water restrictions as a means of control..........decent place in the 80's and 90's but the city has turned into Gotham city........correct on the weather Alberta basically sees winter and a short season to get prepared for the coming winter.
