LIFECHANGING Sketcbook 🎨 Mixed Media Sketchbook Tour
Thanks for the tips! I love your card idea. I hope you do an after Inktober video, I’d love to see the finished project,
You’re welcome- thank you so much! Yes, I’m hoping to do a round up video too I’m excited to see it all come together 🤗 Are you doing it this year? How are you finding it?
Very well said
Thank you Sharon 🥰
Awesome! I loved seeing your sketches. That must have been an amazing experience. Cool "Parisian morning sequence" 😎 -- I watched a ton of the tennis on TV. Do you remember the matches you saw? Wish Alcaraz won, but it was an incredible match.
Thanks so much! Yes it was a great experience. I saw the first round matches of Monflis (when the French crowd were going wild!) and then Murray in the doubles (when I was going crazy haha!)
@@mollyssketchbook Wow! How cool -- I really like them both. And with Murray's pending retirement, that must have really increased the excitement.
Yes and they saved like 4 match points- nail biting stuff 😅😅
@@mollyssketchbook Yeah, that was exciting! I saw that match 😃
good evening~Wow, outstanding masterpiece-ciao. 📢
Thanks so much 🥳🎨
Love it! Even though this isn't even halfway through the sketchbook - it's obvious that you've improved from the first page to the last. Your line quality, proportions, usage of colour, everything seems to be improving. Would love to see the other pages when you are done with them! :)
Thank you so much, that’s so nice of you to say. sometimes it can be hard to see the improvement yourself so I’m really grateful for your comment 🥰
I've absolutely had that same thought - "Should I be drawing and not filming this??" Yep. I feel ya! I love the start of your mushrooms! Looks like you got yourself unstuck - well done!
I know it’s so frustrating isn’t it?! Thank you, I am feeling a little less blocked now yes and it was great to feel the flow of doing all the mushrooms which I hadn’t had in a long time 🤗
I've always struggled with being too results focused and overly ambitious with the scale of the projects I wanna make, but I have a similar experience to you in that ever since I started working on game art for a more serious game project it's been hard getting into the swing of making art for any other reason. I do have motivation in spades, especially when I watch videos of people doing studies, but I have a really hard time putting pen to paper. I think the main reason is that the game is like an endless pit that feels like it's never going to run out of need for art assets, and I imagine having a youtube channel feels similar. I love working on Gatedelvers and putting artistic effort into something that doesn't directly benefit it feels like it would be a waste, but I also want to make so many other things. I feel like I could improve so many skills if I took the time! Of course I'm also improving while working on the game, but having an *actual* reason to care a lot about the outcome of every bit makes it feel so much more restricting. I've been trying to push myself to do some minimum stakes doodling at least a couple times a week, but it just isn't my vibe...
Oh my goodness, yes you have put that in such a good way and it is exactly how I feel. Results focus vs recreation is something I really struggle with even though I know my art doesn't need to be at a certain standard for youtube (something I specifically want to push the boundaries on). Your project sounds so interesting, I hope you keep enjoying it and creating more :)
I love this sketchbook tour and I love your art ❤ I also like how you integrated writings in it. It's really inspiring and comforting ❤
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🥰
Hang in there. You'll get through it. For me it sometimes helps to allow myself not to create. So i can trully recharge without feeling guilty. In these times, my brain can unconsciously gather new inspiration. After that I often feel a "creative" pressure building up, until I really have to start creating again. I also noticed that I have to accept the fact that i only have so much energy. So when there is much other stuff going on in my life then I have less capacity for creativity
Thank you Leonie! That’s such good advice, I just don’t want it to run from months to years haha 🙈 But you’re right I definitely need to be less hard on myself about it! And it’s good to know it’s not just me who get so blocked
Thank you for sharing! I'm learning to draw and paint right now. I doubt I'll ever be able to draw a face. Your work is fantastic! I loved the pomegranate.
Faces are HARD!! But I am sure you’ll get there. Mine are still wonky, but I find it helps if you go in not thinking of it as a face haha- a group of shapes is way less intimidating 🙈😂 Thank you so much! I really enjoyed the pomegranate too 🥰
I love your details and your voice!
Thank you so much! Like everyone, I feel so self conscious hearing my voice back so this is a lovely confidence boost haha!
Well, I have just experienced the biggest coincidence. I was watching a video just today that was of someone cutting a word into two, making one word into two, which I thought was very clever, so I thought what word could I do the same with, and I came up with ‘Pink ink’, but then I thought you would have to colour the ‘P’ in pink and ‘ink’ in black to make them look like separate words.. Then a couple of hours later I watched this video… 😳 It must be a sign I should subscribe 🤔
Woah spooky! 🫨 Great minds think alike obviously!!
@@mollyssketchbook Hehe absolutely!
This was great, Molly! I like how you're treating your sketches and you can see big improvements from the start to the last pages. My favourites are the landscapes you've done towards the end! They look really loose and fun ☺️
Thank you 🥰 Yes I have really been falling in love with landscapes 🍃
Wonderful sketchbook. I admire how you persevere. I really can see the improvement page by page.
Thanks so much Eugene! Sometimes it feels like it’s slow progress but it’s great to hear that the effort is working even slightly 🤗
Definitely an amazing artist that's what I see... Keep going I love you videos!
That’s so nice of you to say; thank you 🥰
you are an artist - I love it gives me the courage to try it! thank you
Thank you 🥰 Enjoy your journey with it too!!
Wow you had good instruction very early on. I studied classical painting at that age but in college here they told us to use a sketchbook but that was it! We saw no inspiration or had any idea of the function so it was a chore. It was only later in life as a professional illustrator I really began to utilise them and saw the value.
Oh that is interesting- such a shame they didn’t explain it better! I found it so helpful. I bet your sketchbooks are amazing now though 🤗 Illustrators have such amazing imaginations, I wish I could turn words into images in such creative ways. It’s one of the things I’d like to try more I think.
@@mollyssketchbook yes do experiment with that. I used to be very literal and couldn’t do anything out if my imagination until I focused on children’s illustration and character designs. After a while it was amazing what manifested from the end of my pencils! So fun and freeing too. I bounce back and forth from the two now - loving and appreciative if both.
Some very important firsts in your sketchbook Molly - well done. The duck butt was a cute touch 😄
Thank you Kayleen 🦆🥰
love it just discoverd you and tha fact you love it, is all that matters - great to see a genuine brain dump sketch book they are the best
Thanks so much Ruth- glad you liked it 🥰
☺️☺️☺️
Lovely 🫶🏼 There so much freedom and joy that comes across in your sketchbook. It’s the kind of art I love the best. I think professional artists make wonky drawings too and so much so that it helps build their career.
Thank you for your lovely comment! Wonky art for the win :)
first time popping into this channel and i must say i am very grateful for you sharing this sketchbook tour, i had a lot of anxiety filling out my own sketchbooks because everyone only posts perfect looking art :( thank you, you have inspired me to not fear imperfections in my sketchbook <3
I know how you feel!! So glad this could help you and make you feel better about your art- it’s a process and I’m sure even those perfect looking people have rough sketchbooks they don’t show anyone 🤫
I just got back from skiing 🎿
Amazing! I hope you had a fab time ⛷️⛷️
2:35 Aiguille rouge? So you were at Les Arcs, pretty huge and sporty ski area. Even for myself, now skiing for ever 20 years and went to ski school, mogul runs and ice fields are challenges and I suck skiing them, still improving
Yes, it was Les Arcs 👌 They are so difficult, I think my biggest improvement has been that I’m not scared much anymore- and I used to be terrified 🙈 Learning as an adult totally meant that I was all to aware of what could go wrong and that held me back for a long time. Now I’m just determined to keep getting better… not sure I will ever understand the ski racers’ love of ice though 😬😬
to conquer your fear for moguls, go ski the ultimate mogul run "le tunnel" at alpe d'huez@@mollyssketchbook
😬😬
This is so wonderful. You’ve inspired me to get more organised about drawing and colouring in my sketchbook including doodles, odd objects, patterns, bugs, flowers … without worrying whether it’s “perfect”. BTW, wonky faces can be art in themselves so thanks for sharing them. Love your work and the voicing of your thoughts reflecting on the various works. Yes, there’s something to like in even our most disappointing woks.
Aww thank you!! I’m so happy that it has inspired you to do that- art is worth making no matter what it looks like 🥰
I enjoyed watching your sketchbook tour. Your thoughts written on paper looked cool next to the art. :) Also love the variety of the things you drew and painted. A sketchbook filled with a lot of creativity. ^^
Thanks so much! 😊 yes I do think having the text alongside makes it look interesting, even if that wasn’t the first intention 🙌
I love this, thank you for sharing! So many ideas, very inspirational. I actually never really liked typography in paintings, but your approach made me curious to look into that a little more ❤
Thanks so much! Yes I know what you mean. I was unsure on an aesthetic level but playing around with it and the added meaning it can bring was really fun!
A very satisfying sketchbook tour, Molly. A life changing and life saving sketchbook
Thank you Paul 🤗
Love all the experimentation and process! In the states, we have Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB)…both explore sketchbook techniques and methods for high school…you would have gotten a perfect score in those programs. Fantastic❤
Thanks so much! Yes I think it’s a good thing to teach- it’s really helped me to attach less importance to outcome and more to the process of creating which is a way more fun and healthy way of looking at art 👍🏼
this is so cool! ill use this as inspo for the gcse art
Ah thanks so much- good luck with it ☘️
This is such a creative idea! looks amazing
Thanks!!
How are the Boldmere pencils to draw with? ... I have ofcourse seen them many times in The Works, but never felt the urge to buy them.
They're okay- I find them quite smooth in my sketchbook but aren't necessarily as soft as I would like for a coloured pencil. I haven't had the chance to layer them over paint yet (which is mainly why I wanted them) but I think that might be better as the coverage seems like it would suit that kind of application better
Just found you and subscribed. Thank you for sharing your beautiful sketchbook. Much ❤ from Nashville TN USA 🇺🇸 😎
Aww thanks so much, glad you’re here 🥰
Fun supplies! Excited to see more projects! 😊
Thanks Francine- I’m looking forward to sharing 🥰
I enjoyed your sketchbook tour. I am so bored with people sharing only their best artworks. Everyone one has good and bad days, good and bad drawings, it is life. I struggle too with faces and 100 heads challenge is helpful.
Thanks so much! I’m so glad it resonated and I’m happy that I’m not the only one who struggles with the heads 😅
Is there a reason why the digital Version of your Skiing Gnome is in black and blue lines? And I suppose the tablet "knows" what to draw, with that ring on the Pencil. So it should be possible to attach it to other Pencils too - you just have to swap that Ring thingy not just working with Faber Castell, right? Is it accurate or do you have to keep an specific distance or angle to make it work while drawing? The colored pencils look nice too....no, don't need them, I'm totally not putting them on my whishlist 😉😅
Yes, I set it to blue in the app! (To match the gnome haha!) I was actually using the pencil that came in the box which was Faber and Castell graphite but you can set whatever colour and hardness regardless of the pencil or so that it matches what you’re drawing with. I think that’s the main link up with FC that it’s just easier to match colours and that it comes with one in the box. It seems pretty accurate so far and I tried at various angles (sometimes I sit in awkward positions when drawing haha) though I haven’t had as much time as I would like to play around with it yet- when I do I think I will try to do a more detailed video because I haven’t seen an in depth one. Yes I’m enjoying them, quite smooth on the page…I’m not encouraging you but can you have too many pencils? 😈😂
@@mollyssketchbook Thanks for your reply. Yeah, would be nice to hear a bit more indept of the FC Drawing Pad and maybe tackle a bit the app too if you make a follow-up. Maybe I'm a bit bias, because I had some devices that itsself were great, but the App that came with it a Pain in the Bu**, killing almost all the fun🤐 Too many pencils....not too many if someone kidnaps me and capture me on an Island just with my drawing stuff and nothing else to do for the next....maybe 10 years 😅
Awesome video 🎉
Thank you Lejla 🥰
I love this sketchbook tour for a few reasons: 1) so relatable and realistic 2) your artwork is lovely and the wonky bits only add more character! (i feel your pain when it comes to drawing heads, they're so hard!) 3) you're not afraid to share all the not-so-perfect outcomes which is great for younger artists or those just starting out to see Of course a beautifully curated sketchbook is what we all aspire to achieve, but honestly, who can handle that kind of pressure? I've never be able to and that's not what a sketchbook is for. Even though I'm a full time artist, my sketchbook is a mix of all sorts of good/bad/ugly bits. It's designed to be used for practice and that's exactly what you're doing here.Well done!
Thanks so much Debbie! I’m so glad you liked it, I was a bit nervous to post all the wonky bits haha but everyone has been so nice and I think it’s just confirmed for me that we don’t just want to see everything perfect- I pushed myself to post what I know I’d like to see out there and I’m really happy that others feel the same 🥰
Wonderful sketchbook! Inspiring.
Thank you so much 😀
I love it a lot! Really really inspiring! <3
Thank you so much Roxana 🥰
Lovely reflections on your faces… but it’s really great that you are enjoying your own sketchbook efforts!
Thanks so much! I do really enjoy sketch-booking 🥰
Molly, I like the way you challenge yourself and then intermittently slip the heads/faces into your sketchbook. You kind of sketch..hop around..journal…and then pop back to it. I love it! Thank you for sharing your art and your process.
Thank you! Haha that about sums up how chaotic of a process it is, but it’s what works for me and is fun too 🙌
I love the Pink Ink!
Aww thank you! I’m not sure where the idea came from haha but I just knew I had to draw it ✍🏼
Soooooooo 🅒🅞🅞🅛🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Thank you 🥳😎😎
#ActuallyAutistic and would absolutely paint a duck 🦆 butt sticking out of the water! 😊
that's a great idea!!
Thanks- give it a go! 💪
@@mollyssketchbook I just might!
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 🤩
Watched this video 3x then ordered a leather sketchbook of my own!! Love your content please upload more sketchbook videos ❤
Aww I’m really glad you loved it! 🥰I really like my sketchbook, it’s nice to have something that feels a bit less commercial/branded- enjoy yours when it arrives and I’m so happy you’re here!
Loved it. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Fiona 🥰
A well filmed and edited video! This sketchbook tour was lovely to watch 🌟 I also love your positive attitude! Art can be difficult, especially for beginners. But keep pushing forward and you’ll get to a place you’re happy with!
Thank you!! Yes I have found that art has helped with my positivity- in life it’s something I definitely need to work on more so I’m glad it’s coming across in my art process🤗
