Art Nouveau Sample Preview - Issue 12, Fall & Winter 2024
Let’s wander the streets of Brussels and Paris, searching for the hidden architectural Art Nouveau gems - houses, doors, windows, street lamps. Let’s explore Berlin’s Jugendstil tile art, marvelling at the colors and shapes taking form.
Let’s get lost in the work of water color artists, glass blowers, jewellers, embroidery artists, and myriads more, who dive into the shapes and curves of plants and flowers, moving, flowing, mirroring.
Our Issue 12 "Art Nouveau" is filled with 12 gorgeous, intricate knitwear designs, 3 essays and 1 poem, all exploring this fascinating time period. In this video, I take you through all 12 designs and the yarns used in them, and how they connect to the essays....

I absolutely love the contents of the October sock box, everything is delightful, thank you. I really like knowing more about the makers of the items too, and hope you continue to do this unboxing on video. Hello Hannalisa, I think your requirements for/of testknitters are very clearly communicated. I am on the email list and have not applied yet because I always had too much else going on to commit, and I knew that because you made everything very clear in terms of timelines etc. I agree with other commenters that it would be nice to share a space to chat with other testers. I don't care when the podcast schedule is not consistent, I would much rather you film when you do have the energy and inspiration for it. Thank you for filming, for researching production processes, sust. companies and everything else you do! 💚💚💚

Thank you so much, Trudi! We've talked about how to create a space to chat with other testers in the team, and we'll have one for the next test knit! I'm so excited about that :)

Hello, thank you for this nice and chatty podcast. Love to hear you, and see all the beautiful things you knit and you have in your shop. I think you make your podcast when you can and when you have things to share. It's important that you have fun too !

KALs are more fun when the participants can communicate with each other in meaningful ways (same with test knits) my favourite KALs and test knits occur in Ravelry forums, or platforms like Discord and Slack. I’ve participated in a couple of your test knits on Google documents, and while I appreciated the moderator’s input, and the finished item, it felt isolated and impersonal. I also agree that it would be great to receive a pdf of the final pattern for the item test knit. PS I test knit recently for Claire (Flossiknits) and the test knit was on Google Docs, but she also set up a chat on Discord that she only dropped in on very occasionally. I think that worked really well, from my perspective as a test knitter.

Long comment incoming! 1) Glad to hear you're getting the schoppel sock yarn back! I missed out last time and would rather order from you than somewhere else! 2) Re: KAL, I find it difficult on instagram nowadays since they nerfed hashtags - I no longer see posts from hashtags I'm subscribed to and if I click on them it only shows "top" posts instead of newest/all like it used to, so it's all kind of nebulous/lost. 3) Re: test knits, I'm surprised so many are dropping out, I find you give a lot of info upfront about how you run it. I test knit for issue 10 (maybe that's why I didn't get chosen for issue 11?) and didn't have a problem, though tbh I did miss the community aspect from other test knits. Maybe having a space that is purely for chat/sharing progress pics etc and explicitly *not* for any feedback or problems with the pattern, so that Jess and Jen don't have to stay on top of it or try to spot feedback amidst the chatter. 4) mystery bags 👀 5) suuuuuper useful to see the holst colours here! I was having trouble making out the colours from the photos - you photographed them well I think but seeing them in a wider context and with your description really helps, eg. many of the darker colours I couldn't tell if some were more blue/green/grey, or like if the reds were more or less pink or bright, I guess because like you said they are deep/complex/heathered colours. I had been looking at them in ravelry projects and that didn't help much, the same colour would look so different (like venetian sometimes looked really knallrot and sometimes darker and sometimes magenta??). Anyway I think I'm def going to hit you up for some combo pics! 6) Personally I do prefer these videos to be on a regular schedule!

Hi dear, thank you so much for your thoughts, I so, so appreciate it!! Re… 1. Yay! I’ll be placing an order with Schoppel this week, so hopefully it’ll be back next week. 2. I just learned about this last week from Isabell! I was so shocked - I had no idea, and it also means that I might have missed posts for the KAL. I’ll be moving the KAL to a different platform for sure next time. 3. We talked about having a space purely to chat for the test knit, and we’ll have that for the next one, hosted by Isabell. Yay! 4. :D:D:D Coming in November! 5. I couldn’t agree more with you! Some of them are super complex so photographing them to showcase all of the colours that might be in one cake is really hard. Before I had shade cards of Holst, I was getting frustrated every time I got yarn for a design from them because it would always be different than what I was seeing online. So I took extra care with the photos, andI’m glad to hear the video worked well! Do let me know about those color combo photos. 6. Thank you for the input!

Schedule wise 3-4 weeks corresponding with a shop update works great!
