Man... this episode hits SO close to home. I feel heard and seen more than I ever have. I just googled Christian Step Parenting podcast and this came up first. Thank you so much for this episode. We have limited her form of communication with us by blocking her and her new husband on all platforms. Our kids have their own phones and we have a work phone she can use if required. I can't wait to listen to more episodes.

I will say. I’m a bio parent and a step parent. I was a stepparent first. I do love my ss I do! But after having my daughter, there is a different bond. So I think it’s okay to admit, maybe we don’t have the same connection or bond to our stepkids as we do our bio kids. However, never let your stepkid feel that. And yes of course pray too, that you would have a deeper love/connection to your stepkid

Would love to hear a convo on resentment the other way around. What about when looking to blend or already blended and your new spouse starts to feel feelings of resentment towards the child/children. Stemming from feelings of jealousy of the time your child gets with you when you are all together and the attention you give them.

I'm becoming part of a blended family. I get along with the kids great and made every effort to make it easier on both of their parents by extending the olive branch to their mother. We go to the same church and live in a very small town only a couple blocks apart. She's made several attempts to sabotage our relationship from relentless complaints about how we spend our time together, to showing him pictures of herself in tiny bikinis asking for his opinion, to most recently inviting herself along with us (kids included) to Wisconsin and even asking to stay in our room. She's constantly texting and calling him, asking favors of him, doing her best to make him and I jealous, strutting around in sleasy outfits (even at church), being overly friendly with him and passive-aggressive with me... she constantly bashes him publicly on social media, calling him a narcissistic abuser despite the post always having attached a selfie, usually in a bikini or super tight workout clothes. She does this every single day, several times a day and I only know this because she sent me a friend request i shouldn't have accepted. She's a bodybuilder and good for her. She works hard at it and wields a great body for her age, but it's non-stop all about how she's "the hot ex", how good she looks for 40, how people are always jealous of her, intimidated by her, uncomfortable with her confidence, etc. I just want her to stop. I'm so stressed out, I'm battling severe chronic illness, I'm having a very hard time coping with the unexpected suicide of my mother 2 weeks ago and trying to support my newly widowed father living 2hrs away... I fully accept that she's not going away and respect her place as the mother of these two wonderful kids, but I'm not sure how much more I'm going to be able to tolerate nicely or as Jesus would. I don't know what to do.

This video was life changing, ive often been made to feel i was over reacting when i see the attempt's so clearly. I always wonder, how do couples just run into this after marraige? In a girlfriend and i cant imagine making it to wife with these issues

Hi! I noticed all of these videos mention spouse but I wonder, how does a couple go from girlfriend to wife without these issues? How do they progress to marriage and find these issues out ? I met my partnerd co parents at 3 months and she was rude to me and it's destroyed my confidence I don't feel I should have met her so soon

I like that each portion of the prayer is supported by scripture.

As a single mom with 3 jobs and two little boys while their biological dad is deployed- it is so nice to be able to listen to Biblical wisdom when I can find a quiet moment and be reminded that our complications of this world are pretty universal! My fiance is still enmeshed with his ex-wife, 10 years after their divorce. Other than sexually, they might as well still be married. He supports her financially, with her still having access to all of his accounts, and he still confides in her like a spouse. She refuses to meet me after 2 1/2 years together, and he spends all holidays at her house with their grown children. He thinks this is all normal after a divorce, because they don't live together or sleep together anymore. So it looks like there's no signs of this changing because to him this is the definition of divorce. I don't know what to do because he won't set boundaries.

Unless the former spouse is deceased, by Scripture, you're not permitted to remarry

What I do and helped is to take out social platforms from my cellphone I only check ones in the laptop. That helps a lot. And as you both said being intentional. We are learning self-discipline and prioritize what is more important. The rest can wait.

This episode was spot on! This is my husband’s second marriage, my first. And from the moment I even started dating my husband, his ex wife was so intent on inserting herself into our relationship. We’ve been married for two years and finally recently my husband and myself have told his ex wife, enough. She, like you said, would try to text my husband about things that weren’t about their son. Things that were inappropriate. I tried to be friendly but it always backfired. So like you said, I go back to, what am I supposed to do as a Christ follower. Things have been slightly better since my husband and I put in boundaries.

Isnt that what all Christians are no matter the name of their churches...they are a blended family in Christ's love for one another we are to have for each other...loves forgiveness....

What if your child is now in college/young adult, and has really alienated us already? She refuses to recognize/discuss the situation and believes I’m overbearing from trying to protect her as a younger teen when she acted out in unsafe behaviors.

Wow! Spot on the issues dealing with a blended family. I didnt realize others dealt with the same issues. I felt alone.

This is so much what we are going through with my stepdaughter and her mom - we can only pray that she will see the truth one day as her brothers have and that their mom changes enough to be a better person for the three of them. Thank you for this - blending is hard enough (we have 5 kids together - 4 full time) but dealing with parent alienation, from someone who is also emotionally abusive, has been a whole different monster. We let my SD stay with her mom because we knew that fighting for her would make things worse for our household. We decided that saving the two who wanted to be here would have to be enough. Trying to explain about boundaries to children without saying exactly why is difficult. Having a child who only wants to come around for gifts is difficult. Remaining silent but loving from afar is so hard when you know that child needs/deserves something more than the other parent is providing and the other parent/family just doesn't seem to care. It is so hard when people ask where she is and how she is. We just aren't sure how to respond. The "whew" at the end is right! I am counting solely on Jesus for this situation.

Have y’all talked about coparenting between a believer bio parent/step parent and a un-believer bio parent?

The child has a right to exposed to both religions. Eventually the child should then be free to make their own choice between the two. No one should be forced to follow any religion
