Join me for a week in my 3rd grade classroom! It was a busy and exciting week filled with unique moments and fun lessons. We kicked things off with a two-hour late start due to the cold, which made for an interesting schedule. My students participated in a spelling bee, started art, and explored Martin Luther King Jr.’s life through text structure activities. In math, we dove into fraction less...

Good morning Mr.Nelson
I get to cover up the stuff for each test But THE ABCS GET ME YES KNOWING THE ALPHABET WILL GIVE ME THE ANSWERS TO A 600 QUESTION TEST
What a great thing to wake up to on a Sunday morning. I'm so happy that you guys are back!
Ok it’s kinda giving ✨😭
How fun!!😂
Jabari Jumps and Henry’s Freedom Box are amazing stories. I’ll be doing Can Man in the library again this year with my 3rd graders. Awesome supplies, very much needed I’m sure. Yes, bring on February for sure!
Hi, Do you have your Goal Setting and Reflection sheet on TPT? It would be a great resource for my students. I enjoy watching your vlogs. I get so many good ideas to use with my 2nd and 3rd graders. Thanks for sharing!!
@@tekkamccray7158 I don’t yet but I’ll add it this weekend!
Have you had your thyroid checked? I would suggest that. When I was teaching and “moming,” my doctor ordered some blood tests, and it turned out, they said my thyroid levels were low. I’ve been taking a prescribed thyroid pill ever since. Doesn’t mean I’m never tired, but year after year at my med checks, it’s tested, and the dose has only been increased once. I hope you’ll do this for yourself. It could be this or something else. Do this for YOU, okay? 😊 Another fun video! Thank you!
@@debreale5236 I’ll have the check at my next appointment! I also drained myself by staying out and up later than usual this week every week night 😅 usually I’m much better about getting to bed at a good time.
You mentioned that your district uses a reading curriculum that does not support the science of reading. What do you use, and how do you supplement to align with the science of reading?
@@alb8539 we use f&p classroom curriculum… supplement with Word Connections (www.jessicatoste.com/wordconnections), Secret Stories, and some resources I’ve purchased from Tim Rasinski
Okay slayyy
Ha Ha😅😅
Yay for choosing Kentucky! Woot woot 😂 If you couldn’t tell, I’m from Kentucky. 😆
Ok, genius ideas to turn it into a lesson
I did something similar with the small cast and crew of a community theatre show that I stage managed, which closed yesterday. For closing week, I hid 100 crescent moons in the dressing room and stage. I had fun hiding them, and it seemed like they enjoyed the hunt as well. During our after-party, i strung up the moons they found on the card I had my instructions on, and they can use it as a bookmark and keepsake of the show.
😂😂😂
How fun!
How many did they end up finding. I was wondering about that tissue box looks kinda empty i wonder if they'll find it😂
I’ll keep ya posted!
Thank you so much for putting one on that air vent, I was staring at it waiting for you to put one up there haha. Missed opportunity to tell them there were more ducks than there actually are so they keep hunting for them
I don’t think they’ll find them all anyways, so are pretty tough!!! And I ended up doing two air vents 🤣
This is so cute - you seem like a GREAT teacher!
We had a 2 hour delay this week for 21 degrees Fahrenheit 😂😂😂. We were out for 2 days because we got 1 inch of snow… glad I’m here in NC teaching 3rd… not there 😅
Kudos to teaching during this cold season!! I wish we had more male elementary teachers!
Thank you! We have quite a few at my school actually! 6 classroom teachers, 2 sped, and 1 PE!
I have that carpet in my class in school
🥶
That sunset photo is stunning. Our state has a program with 9 modules also. The Science of Reading. I got covid in September so I did it while I was home sick for a week.
I'm asking I need the bloomer game id

What’s that mic?

Thanks!
The end😂
I've been binging your videos and wanna support such an amazing teacher. I can't do much, but do you have an amazon wish list?
Regular school day here with a morning temp of -34 with a -48 windchill. Crazy... Love late starts and snow days!
We are off in St. Paul tomorrow! I’m pumped about a surprise 4 day weekend!
Any day is a good day when you post. Middle of week and weekends sounds great. Loved Vlogmas and enjoy out and about vlogs. Would enjoy seeing parts of your town and restaurants you enjoy. Do you have to worry about frozen house pipes when it's that cold? It's going to get down to 10 here in the Carolina's this week and we let our faucets drip. I can't imagine sub zero temps but your pipes are probably better insulated to handle that.
Glad you had a fun on your trip. I look forward to watching anything you post. Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons sound like a good time to post. However, life especially teaching life, can be crazy. So anytime you can post is great!
Mr Nelson?? Is that u
Sure is
I hope you feel better soon. I take it you guys aren’t required to turn in plans.
We are not!
So much fun!
And this is why you are teachers I think you need some dance practice
As a librarian, without a space due to a remodel and pushing into classes, I have been doing offline activities. It is actually refreshing to do read alouds and worksheets. We then have discussion on the activity and those are truly my best days. We have lost communication and writing skills due to our Covid year. My students need to be able to express themselves, that is essential for all learning. You keep being awesome in doing what you know is right for your students. By the way, I love all the books that you share. I have shared Salt in His Shoes and Can Man with my 3rd graders and in 5th they still talk about it. Truly it is those meaningful discussions that make my job rewarding for me and my students. It also builds relationships. Soon, I will be doing my book tasting activity, once I’m back in the library and I seriously cannot wait.
It's awesome that you get to go home on lunch. We don't get to here in VA.
I have lunch and recess with my kids. How does it work for you to go home for lunch? Do you have staff who only work lunch? How long is lunch and recess? Love your vlogs! -3rd grade teacher in Mississippi
January 9th was my birthday! It was a great day.
Preach, Fletcher! I agree 100% with everything you said. I teach 1st - 2nd grade combo class and my kids don't use technology in my classroom except for during testing. They get more screen time than is recommended or healthy for them as it is and I don’t want to add to that. I use technology to teach them, but I try to limit their screen time as much as possible. I absolutely love the points you made about boredom. We all need to be comfortable with boredom. It’s not a bad thing. Anyway, I’m just restating the things you said so well. I just want you to know that I wholeheartedly agree with your rant. Keep doing you! ❤
Totally agree! Personally i hate the tech they have in schools outside of learning to program. I prefer the tech free classroom system as well
Your external need for validation is embarrassing af
I work in a nice public school district, and I wish we used less technology. All the kids have Chromebooks, and they introduce so many problems. Sure, it's less paper being used, but it makes the kids want to constantly be in front of the screen. And for special needs kids (which includes kids who don't have a learning disability but have really huge behavioral issues), everything being on Chromebooks is so much more difficult for them.
"Offering all kids voice and choice." 😂😂😂😂😂 Yeah, see how that works for you. The kids would be running that classroom within 48 hours. Kids need structure and direction from an adult in the room, not voice and choice from a buddy.
Something that bothers me is the lack of general purpose computers Everything is a Chromebook or tablet I think classrooms should have at least a couple computers that allow more freedom and exploration of tech. Like a raspberry pi or similar
I 100% agree with you! I only let my students use technology for what I’m required for them to do. Other than that my students are reading, writing, or working.
Kids don’t need screen time 24/7 great job teaching
100% agree with you Keep doing good
I am a retired, substitute teacher, and I can guarantee that one of the main reasons I retired was because of tech in the classroom too much too much too much.
Amen. These kids can't read cursive or even count back change on their own when they start work in the service sector. You ask for help and they will tell you to goggle it. No communication skills because their faces have been fixated to a phone or Ipad.
