Thanks for the explanation, but this is not working for the formula in data validation. Normally, on any cell the formula: =TableName[ColumnName] works fine but in data validation, list field it doesn't work, gives the broken formula error.

This doesnt do what i need. In you example James appears once on the list. In mine he appears several times but I want only to do a lookup when the last name is a certain value.
