I liked Nora, she was so grounded, and willing to put up with all of Barney's craziness.

This is all just comedy and drama. Remember people. The entire show is Bob Sagat, I mean Ted telling his kids stories about when he was younger. It makes perfect sense that he would sensationalize some things in the story. Especially when it comes to telling stories that often somewhat dehumanize Barney, considering his underlying motive for telling the kids this story at all. Ted was never a man of unimpeachable morals, even in his own stories.
