    Back in the 1960s we had a Farmall H tractor and an International 45 baler. Being poor we did not have the money to have the knotters looked at so every so often it would miss tying a bale. The baler had twine boxes on each side of the bale chamber, so I sat on one while my dad was baling. I was about ten at the time. When I saw a bale that was not tied, I would yell, and dad would stop and tie the bale while it was still in the bale chamber. He said twine was too expensive to waste.

    Lovely video during the early summer weather that didn't last. When I was a boy in 1970s, my late father had a B46 and then a B47 baler. The B47 broke our hearts with missed knots. Never got to the bottom why it did. Suspected it was the stationary twine knives seemed very finicky to set up. No 4K video mobile phones back then to record and playback in slo- mo what was happening in the knotter. I see a few missed bales there. What's your experience with what is a very well kept B47?

    • @ronancarragher4efe
      @ronancarragher4efe Год назад

      @dellhell8842 thanks for the comment. It was my dad’a uncle’s baler back in its prime he baled on the country with it hay and straw and it was very well maintained. It was still used on the farm every year even when I was younger but it was in storage for about 10 years there we only pulled it out a day or 2 before we baled this although it was covered and well coated with oil so it kept it preserved and we had a quick go over it before using her. Yes one of the knotters occasionally didn’t tie correctly and she did let out a few loose bales but for the most part she went well. As we haven’t used it too much much recently and with other projects and silage during the summer we never get the chance to look into it but like a lot of other things someday we might get round to it

    Hi nice video,would you recommend buying a krone 2900,my neighbour selling one with manual back door and single axle

    • @ronancarragher4efe
      @ronancarragher4efe Год назад

      @rabmurphy the krone 2900 is a very good wagon they can be bought worth the money. Only thing is a double axle one would be better. We have a smaller potttinger single axle and if the ground is anyway wet at all it digs in to the ground with a full load so I can imagine a single axle 2900 would be worse for that. But if you’ve very dry ground it might be ok. It’s possible to retrofit extra axels to them I believe. If it’s been well maintained like the knives bearings and chains are good it wouldn’t make a bad purchase

    • @rabmurphy7089

      Thanks for reply,are the knives hard to change,is there anything I need to watch out for?

    • @ronancarragher4efe
      @ronancarragher4efe Год назад

      @@rabmurphy7089 The knives aren’t too hard to get, my da (he’s a fan of your leyland) gets them from Alexander Mills in Benburb they can order them in from Germany but they need a slight cut made at the top before fitment. They’re not too bad to fit once you get the hang of them they all slot in and there’s a bar that locks them in place. One other thing to watch is that the door can get twisted with wear and tear and not close properly but it can be straightened without too much hassle

    Do you have many mechanical issues with your wagon? What should look out for when buying one

    • @ronancarragher4efe
      @ronancarragher4efe 2 года назад

      Gary Kavanagh We keep it well serviced and use a full set of knives that we sharpen for each cut. If you’re looking at one make sure all the bearings, chains and pickup reel r tight and spin freely. Also the hydraulic motor for the floor chains. We have a few issues with the back door twisting during the silage and it doesn’t always lock back in when emptying but it’s easy to straighten. Also see if the drum and pickup reel are kept well greased as they can wear there too. The bogey axle should be kept well greased too. There’s more too look for than that but those are some of the main elements that if left neglected can let you down in the field. We’ve had it 10 years now and we keep on top of it and any small items that broke with age were replaced. Hope this helps
