One of the best musicians of all time, ADRIAN BORLAND

His vocals remind me of Jeffrey Lee Pierce.

One of the greatest post punk bands in history. I think it's better that they were undiscovered on a mass scale...A genuine diamond in the rough if you will..There's something uniquely special, and rare about that. THE SOUND.

The Netherlands was the only country to recognize the genius of Adrian. Most of The Sounds record sales and gigs were in Holland. Shocking how he was ignored in the UK. We have to thank the Dutch music press, venues, and the fans for keeping his career going back then, and they took great care of his legacy too. All those re-releases have been awesome, and there’s even a documentary and a book. Respect!

Counting the days could be one of the most beautiful songs ever written in history, simple, melodic, catchy, definitely gorgeous and breathtaking.

I wish the audio quality was better in this recording but you can still hear how good they were, its cool that bauhaus was there too, i really cannot see why bands like bauhaus overshadowed them so much, in my eyes the sound is just as good.

We are commemorating this by organizing a special event at Poppodium Boerderij together with the Opposite Direction Foundation on this day. With a book presentation, film, concert and exhibition. It was December 5, 1987 that Adrian Borland walked off the stage halfway through the concert of The Sound at De Boerderij. It would later turn out that this had been The Sound's last concert. Adrian then made five more solo albums, but unfortunately his illness always slumbered in the background and on April 26, 1999 he decided to end his life. However, the story of Adrian and the music of The Sound live on! Documentary: The documentary Adrian Borland documentary "Walking in the opposite direction" by Zoetermeer resident Marc Waltman (Boegbeeld Academie) and Jean-Paul van Mierlo, had its world premiere at IDFA 2016 and was already screened at De Boerderij in 2019. Such a talent. He gave us so much music. His solo work is among his best. The Sound are brilliant of course, and the Citizens were very good but Cinematic and Lovefield are really great too. Plus the posthumous releases. So much music. He must have rarely stopped working. Unappreciated in his time but an amazing legacy. He left his mark.

I'm glad that I found this interview to see this great man. In The Lion's Mouth is an utterly amazing album.
