Great find on the garage'd Bison. I love my '22 Z71. I wish Chevy would have continued the diesel into the next gen Colorado. Would have loved to get a 23 Trail Boss with the 2.8!

@@TrashPandaGarage I apologize ahead of time, you opened a door for me. I'm happy to say that her Jeep does not have the rusty jack and jack store that you showed us! It was born and raised in a region of the US that doesn't see a lot of snow and ice and salt, so body-wise it's in great shape! It's actually almost pristine. Now to your question...it's a little embarrassing for me, because I obviously didn't vet her purchase thoroughly enough before she bought it. I knew of the oil filter/cooler housing issue and even the cam follower (aka rocker arm) roller issue and determined we were good, even bringing an automotive stethoscope with me and listening for that dreaded valve train tic. 200 miles into ownership the oil filter housing leak showed itself, so I ordered and changed the housing to one made of aluminum, along with Mopar filter element and correct ASE 5W-20 motor oil. After that is when the valve train tic became noticeable. 4 cam shafts and several thousand dollars later the tic was gone. A few other annoyances cropped up, but were relatively easy and inexpensive to deal with. Then...I got a phone call one day from my daughter saying the temperature gauge had gotten past the half way mark, "maybe even to the 3/4 mark". I had her pull into a gas station and let it cool down, then being close to home, drive it home. Sure enough, the coolant level was low. I purchased some correct Mopar coolant and noticed that the coolant in her Jeep was a different color. The 2015 model calls for OAT anti-freeze which in factory fill is purple, and what she had was orange, which may or may not have been aftermarket OAT. I flushed the entire system, noting a little coolant sludge but not bad. I put the correct anti-freeze in it, certain that the problems were gone. WRONG! Much head scratching and belly aching later I began to suspect a head gasket leak, more specifically at the #5 cylinder (pax side, aft cyl). It's then that I took it to a shop that sees a lot of Jeeps, and they were able to verify that diagnosis with certainty. Unfortunately, if these Jeeps see high operating temps, say 240 and above, the block can warp and cylinders actually move several thousands of an inch out alignment. That's what happened to her Jeep. While you might get by with replacing the head gasket long enough to sell the vehicle, it's not a fix. A new Mopar long block is the only certain fix. We faced an ethical decision as well as a practical one. We could not in good conscience cover the issue up and sell it to another unsuspecting buyer, and we had too much money invested in it to have a fire sale. The Jeep now has a new Mopar long block with 100K mile/36 month factory warranty and runs like new. So, lesson learned the hard way: Do your homework better than I did before even thinking about buying one of these. BTW, just as a side note, I got to thinking about the effects an over heated engine can have on an automatic transmission. The fluid looked clean and smelled fresh when she bought the Jeep, but after the over temp it was obviously burned. I changed the filter and refilled the trans. We took it on a road trip last week and I noticed the trans temp stayed around 170 at a prolonged 75mph, which is good. I plan to evacuate the trans fluid and refill the next couple of oil changes just for good measure. If anyone reading this is trying to decide whether to buy a JK or not, I hope my little rant helps. I don't mean to dissuade you, just to prepare you. You take a chance buying any used car, but you can do a better job of hedging your bet than I did.

@@lylekliewer4787 I appreciate the info, for sure. You're absolutely right. People need to know what they're getting into with these things. Your story is further proof of that. It seems like the radiators are prone to cracking and the t-stats are garbage, with aftermarket t-stats being even less reliable. My coolant level was pretty low when I bought the thing. Dealer topped it off during my last warranty trip in to fix the belt tensioner. Good stuff.

I noticed some water intrusion at the front doors that is resulting in the front carpets getting a little wet. More so on the driver side. Thanks for the heads up, though! It would appear the issue with the water leak into the jack cubby effects both hard and soft tops. We have a soft top on ours.

It's nuts. I've still got the drain plug out of it right now. Were you living in a rainy environment when you owned it?

@TrashPandaGarage I live in north central Ohio. When I first discovered it, the entire compartment was full of water and the jack was so rusted I threw it away, along with the folding rod for it. I bought that Jeep new and traded it on a 2020 JL wrangler in May, 2020. No more problems. I have been driving Jeeps since 1975, and I've never had trouble with that with any of the others.

I feel ya. I went into it knowing the maintenance needs would be higher, but the jack caught me by surprise.

@@vwpeacecar Awesome! Outside of my price range @ $20K+, and too heavy for my truck if they made a mid-size Genesis, but should be a super rad setup for you.

The Genesis, as stated on their website is in a league of its own. There’s a dirtbox camper that’s a step down from the Genesis, but that’s still sick and better than any other canopy camper out there. I would choose GFC for price and weight, skipped the rest and go w the regular dirt box.

Nope. I love the Colorado (and the GFC). I don't anticipate getting rid of it anytime soon.

@@toyotabrony if on sale again i probably would. We have the road shock brand 20” lightbar from HF mounted in the grill of our Nissan Frontier for a few years now and it’s been fine.

@@TrashPandaGarage so even if it’s 1 year. There’s still great. Do u think u can do another review from a different brand that’s underrated, from Walmart. They sell from a company called Alpena. It’s also the same that’s uncommon for buying led off-road lights off the shelf like roadshocks from harbor freight. TrecTec S22 driving led light bar with an accent light. And it’s an SAEJ581 compliant. It’s specifically made for street use and high power mode for off-road. It’s around also $80. Depending on the size. Could u do an another review on that?

@@trekfortruth2841 the one we had installed in our 4cyl Nissan Frontier died, presumably from under-charging by the alternator. I’ve replaced it an Odyssey that I found on sale for relatively cheap. I’ve been doing a better job of trickle charging this new one regularly.

​@@TrashPandaGaragethx for the update...my hesitation on upgrading to AGM is based on the same concern. I use a solar charger once a week that charges to 14.4 volts, but my alternator tops out between 14.1 and 14.2.

@@trekfortruth2841 Eventually I plan to put a hood mounted solar panel on the Frontier that will essentially work as a trickle charger of sorts for the starting battery. We have one of those on our Chevy Colorado, which seems to work great.

I think a trailer makes a lot of sense in many situations, based on intended use. Only the tongue weight of the trailer factors into your GVWR, and that high tow rating definitely allows you to pack a lot more weight/gear than what you can carry in the bed of your truck. I get what you're saying. It will of course create some limitations, but everything's a trade-off of some sort. We no longer have the rack and tent and have switched to a different setup on the truck.

Day and night compared to stock. The rears on the Colorado are perfectly valved for the weight of the GFC.

It's tight! We haven't had much time to work on the Frontier lately but we'll definitely have some updates on that truck in the future. I'll try add some more shots of how the T/C is mounted and what fitment looks like.
