Thats a nice radio.. how much and can you ship it today
A+++ great job!
Appreciate the compliment.
I have enjoyed watching the videos on building this amp. Do you have a video showing how you mounted and wired the low pass filter board and the protection boards?
@@edjackson5910 There are more videos to come on the amplifier. I will try to get the next amp video out next week.
Same problem. Thanks for the fix.
Really appreciate the detail explanations of how to repair radios!
Nice radio with good sound. The more the years pass by the more I appreciate these old school radios. Thank you
Very cool I have a Sinadder 3 here in my collection. Thanks for sharing !
Great Video thank you From Vk3 jjj
I owned a TS-430S probably about 35 years ago (The 'woodpecker' was still in its last days). 100W out the back, teamed with an 'analogue' ATU, 0-30Mhz continuous tune/TX on a 3 element 11meter Yagi-Uda I loved it and now I wish I had never parted with it. I recently got back into Amateur radio (Foundation Licence last January) and in the summer bought a FT-991A The 991A is better in _almost_ every way technically speaking but I _really_ miss my first proper radio, it just had way more character, taught me so much and revealed so much on the bands whilst spending hours just rolling the dial and listening to absolute gems. To see your video, you breathing life back into an old friend with such care brought back good memories. Thanks for sharing this.
The FT-991A is my main radio and yes it is more advanced. But I like the old receivers to me they sound better not so hard on the ears.
Thank you very match you save my day good video and useful trick thanks a lot
Same exact issue with the one I have. The trimmer in mine is 200K. Glad I found your channel.
Can you tell which case model you are using? Informative video, thanks. Looking forward to the finished pics and power test.

Question sir. What causes it for those solder joints to crack? Next is, if an hf radio that was working as it should before and was put in storage in a hot and sometimes humid environment for more than 15 years, and now, it just turns ON. One with half a display horizontally, the other has no display at all. No RX, just the typical hiss sound on FM on both radios. Not sure of the TX because I don't have the proper antenna for it yet. Both are IC-735's that is from my late father inlaw's. The other one had normal RX for just a while and lost it, the other one is just quiet. Whst do you think is the problem sir? Would recapping it and changing the internal battery bring it back alive? Thank you sir.
As for the cracked solder joints. Years of On Off heating and cooling puts stress on solder joints and the solder the manufacture used at that time seem to be susceptible to cracking. As for the IC-735's sounds like the PLL has come unlocked on one and the other is unlocking after heating up. I would start by looking at the caps to see if there are any bulged or leaking. If you find discoloration on the board under a cap it is leaking and will need replaced.
Well done Sir! Top job.
It would be a shame to bust it up for bits. Personally, I would persevere and take pride in my efforts when it's back to it's former glory. They are excellent radios. Chris, G0VOE in Somerset, England

I haven a Hickok 380 and it works like a charm.... Great diagnosis ..... You should be knocking on 100,000 subscribers ..... You have a great channel..
Awesome diagnosis ...... That IC chip is actually big enough to solder in with a small tip.... I use a JL02 bent style T-12 tip..... I clean the pads with wick then add a lil solder to the most easiest corner pad to get to ..... I then place the chip and tack that corner in so to speak .... Then I solder each one after that .... Yes I do have a hot air station like you have , but I only use it when I have to.... Nice lil radio right there ........ Keep them videos coming .....
I'm glad you persevered on that unit , too many good radios are parted out for hardly no reason...... That guy must have been slinging his soldering iron everywhere in there , that was a mess ......
Thank you. A new ham is enjoying it.
That's great to hear now he doesn't have to spend the big bucks on a new radio...@@Jebs-Projects
That's a nice lil rig right there ...
It reminds me of my R5000 with the same dots. In that case it was the PLL with issues.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Great work. Glad it was something simple.
Off to a good start!
Love watching you work Jeb! Picking up a few tricks from you. Thanks for the videos!
Thank You
Regulator
Turn you Amplitude down on the generator and you scope will look better or drop voltage u need to check your am regulator
hi my counter was bought used and the 10mhz adj trimmer is chewed up, any idea what the min/max pf is for the factory trimmer ? also is a manual or schematic available for this counter ? barry
I could not fined a schematic for this counter. As for the trimmer I don't know what value it should be. I took a trimmer out of an old SSB CB and it was 2pf to 22pf I believe.
i'll give it a try.
i'm not much of a commenter but nice job i like the way you show all the work
Hi Jeff. I had a similar experience with a TS-130S a year ago. It had several strange issues, and I did spend a lot of time with it. For me it was a valuable learning experience. In the end it was a nice radio. It came with the external speaker & vfo, so it was worth some money. Thank you for sharing this! If you fix the display, let us know. 73
In Video 2 fixed the display and got the radio in usable condition
Good job

Witam. Miernik fajny miałem taki, ale poległem na naprawie. Sprzedałem. Mój miał TCXO . ... Pozdrawiam
Whole point Buying 1 is it should be Bang on 10Mhz,,!! So i have to buy another to set this 1 ? useless .. i got 1 How far off are they on average ?
I had to add a resistor
I had that same problem on that very exact oscillator
Some new info was posted by @ellisgl on the first video. @ellisgl - That seems to be a common issues of you read the reviews. Just need to replace the trimmer with a larger value iirc. Thank you @ellisgl

Thank you for the info. Will keep that in mind for the next one.
Thanks for the video. I ran into the same problem of insufficient adjustment range. I followed your method but 150K didn't get there, I had to use 47K on mine. Thanks again!
Your Welcome. Glad the video helped
Very useful video. Thank you!
You're welcome!

The device is a sine wave generator, out does it do other stuff too?
You could call it a sine wave generator. A more accurate description would be. Frequency Standard Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator(OCXO). The unit puts out sine wave on one port and square wave on the other port both 10Mhz. There are several Frequency Standard Crystal Oscillators 1: Crystal 2: Temperature Controlled Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) 3: Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator(OCXO) 4: GPS Disciplined Oscillator(GPSDO) 5: Rubidium Crystal Oscillator The unit only outputs 10Mhz for uses as an External reference for Test equipment that have a 10Mhz reference input.
@@Jebs-Projects I'm an electronics newbie, and I like your channel so I'm writing this comment to help with engagement. What would one use it for in a practical application?
