Wisconsin Supper Club Shuffle 2023 | 5 Rivers in 5 Days | American Rivers Tour
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.11 месяцев назад
My fishing pal Michael and I spent 5 days touring through Wisconsin fishing and dining. We fished the Bruce, Flambeau, Prairie and Menomone Rivers with the help of guides Adam Greul, Keith Behne and Shane Suter. And we visited several classic supper clubs: The Five O'Clock Steakhouse, The Duck Inn, Lehman's Supper Club, The Fireside Supper Club, and Marty's Place.

October 2022 - We rolled into Hayward late on Sunday afternoon. The world’s largest Muskie (a 143-foot-long sculpture) on the edge of town was just visible from the road in last light. Check-in at the Holiday Inn Express was quick and easy. My wingman Larry Carlson was hungry. Our guide for Monday’s float had suggested we try The Steakhouse & Lodge which seemed to be one of the only supper club...

The odometer read 4204 mi. as we pulled into Sheridan Wyoming, almost dark, a cold light rain peppered my windshield. At the corner of Main Street and Grinnell Plaza, Fly Shop of the Bighorns occupies a prominent location across the street from Kings Saddlery internationally known for ...

1/23 and 1/24, 2023 - The call of New Orleans in January comes from deep within. It’s a pilgrimage that started for me in the 5th grade when my parents scheduled an unrequested winter break to visit my cousins who lived a bohemian life down the street from a bayou canal near Lake Pontchartrain. I was a rascal. Dad thought time at Steve and Moira’s with their 2 daughters and 3 sons might provide...

2/15/23 - Checking in at the Rod & Gun Lodge in Everglades City, Florida is a trip. The lobby’s filled with ancient stuffed tarpon, snook and redfish, Florida black bears, panthers, Indian head sculptures and wild turkey mount the coffee table across from a reception desk featuring a set of alligator jaws large enough to accommodate a wandering child. We arrived late in the day as the suns last...

Driving east out of Wyoming in mid-October, farm fields in Iowa were dried and heavy with field corn on the outskirts of Decorah. The dark green F-150’s trip odometer read 5170 miles, clouds hung like giant cotton balls over the road, I was ready for a rest. Arriving at Trout River Log Cabin late in the day we had time to settle and visit the stream before sunset. As Jeff and I rolled up the dr...

I had the good fortune of being acquainted with Rusty Gates. He sold me my first quality outfit, and then taught me how to use it. He also invited me to tie flies with the crew during the winter. Alas, my lack of balance prevents me from fishing any more, but I have a stack of memories.

I spent a number of years in the UP, and fished this stretch on numerous occasions. One of the most beautiful fishing locations in my life. I met some of the best folks while fishing and living in the UP. Many are lifelong friends that enriched my life in soooo many ways. It's not so much the destination, but memories of all the water that has flowed past while standing in beautiful tannin-stained water and marveling at the immensity of it all. I can still remember the Great Blue Heron that stood within eight foot of me in late fall, insisting that I feed it the small shiners/chubs that were giving me so much grief. I guess he/she was not happy with me, and decided to take off and land on an underwater rock shelf where I was fishing over a pod of magnificent trout that were sipping on midges. These are the memories that stay with you for the rest of your life.

Awesome! great video! I have been biking and swimming so many time by Wilmington yet never fished. It is such a beautiful area that I would be very hard press fishing as I would be stuck to one place. :-) :-) Maybe I should try it once. So far the thing that I like best about fly fishing is tying my own flies. Maybe at one point I will have to try them to see if they work or better I could mail them to you and you let me know if they work. :-) :-) I guess I am still too young to fish. :-) Thank you for sharing that great video. You surely live in a nice area. I live in Montreal Canada.

I had two fly rods and never used them. Now I'm too old to flounder around in the river but it sure was fun watching the beautiful fish being retrieved. You did a great job with the photography. It shows what the rest of the world is missing. I have a selfish desire when it comes to people who want to see more industry move in so more people can come here. I have seen the changes, some for the better but some for the worse since growing up here for almost 70 years. I hate to see the beauty of this area overrun with commercial interests.
