These songs have been far too rarely heard and the original voice arrangements are inaccessible to most non-Russian speakers. These arrangements now make this gorgeous music accessible to a far broader audience. The translations of the song words add greatly to our ability to appreciate the composers’ genius in setting great Russian poetry to music. it is so magical to watch and listen to the artists in this video. They joined their incredible talents together in one desire, to bring this message of a great importance and beauty to us. What we hear on this recording is a genius, but almost forgotten music of one of the most beloved composers of all times, Rachmaninov. Also, music of his contemporaries, Tchaikovski and Medtner, whom Rachmaninov admired. When I listen to these musicians, I feel utterly inspired and captivated. The expressiveness of their musical language has the power to transport me to the different world, the one of pure poetry and beauty. Marcio Candido, Cherry Kim, Svetlana Velichko are accomplished, world class, sought after musicians. They found each other to learn and perform this music together and share their experience with the world. And they did it so beautifully. I would like to thank them for that. What a rare opportunity to hear a new chamber music of the superb professional quality, haunting beauty and engaging interpretation. Exquisitely expressive, I would say, luxurious arrangements of the original songs by Rachmaninov and other Russian composers made by our contemporary, pianist Svetlana Velichko will no doubt enrich program of any professional Piano Trio. Rachmaninov, who loved the Song (Romance) genre, left an extensive repertoire for the vocalists. But many of those masterpieces are rarely performed due to their incredible difficulty. Arrangements for Piano Trio gives this genius music a new life, a chance to be enjoyed by the performers and the music lovers alike. The piano accompaniment of the Rachmaninov's Songs is very rich, almost orchestra like dense. That made this arrangements so possible and in a way logical. Svetlana Velichko did not change or added any single note to the original text in her arrangements. What she added to it was her love for the Rachmaninov's music, deep connection with it and her masterful musicianship. The purity and the artistic depth of this new work make it so precious and meaningful.
