How to make a string musical instrument from plywood 35 x 18 cm In 1962, I made my first stringed musical instrument from plywood. I was 9 years old. My musical instrument had one plywood soundboard, one fishing line string, and one curved nail for tuning the string. Today I repeated the experiment and to my one-string musical instrument I added two more strings and a resonator with a new handl...

Addendum to previous comment. You know when A violin is in tune as the touch will vibrate like a goldfish in your fingers. It sizzles under your fingers ergo effervescent! But this only occurs when the instrument is perfectly in tune. The conditions must be right.

I am shocked! I would have thought a triangular violin extremely nasal. This just goes to prove that you can not judge a book by its cover. Im very impressed. On the other hand, Balaleicas were traditionally triangular. I think the biggest thing contributing to power and tone is strings that are in correct diameter and that they are stabilized in order that they don't slip. Each string reinforces its neighbor and the sum of all is dependant on the whole mass as it drives the bridge as it drives the belly as it drives the soundpost. If any string is off it sends a horrible eddy through the entire system. The sum of the whole is greater than any one or two or three strings. It is a primitive transducer capable of near infinite signal generation. It's the same with certain old christmas tree lights. If one goes out the rest will also. That's why each string must.be incredibly in tune and unable to slip or the instrument will sound off. You know when a violin is in tune because it will sing.c.c.e.5 9 24

:) :) Let me put it this way ;) I (as a musician) know violinists who pay up to ten thousand US dollars for a bow! I have seen violinists undergo (on YT) blind tests, expensive/cheap violin. Didn't work so well if you wanted to prove expensive = 'better'. Of course expectations and psychology come into play, even for (conscious) me. It seemed to 'lose' a bit in the higher register, but that's a marginal note. In the hands a master (no criticism of the builder) I think it would pass a blind test. was amazing. I will build!

I love that you're able to get someone to play, or demonstrate your instruments. I would also appreciate more details about the types of wood, and the sources of your inspiration to build the instruments (where the pictures are from, the time period, who and where they might've been played). Also, please continue to play them yourself in the build videos. I know you said, or wrote, that you're not a violin player but your taste in music comes across in your playing and it's so nice to hear a different point of view (the type of music from other countries or cultures). Thanks again for your love of historical instruments and showing that beautiful music can come from instruments that I might be able to make myself (I listen religiously, but don't play at all).
