Japan STICKER GRAFFITI Aug 2024 Tokyo

About 95% of these were sticker graffiti, while a few of them are new stickers that were sold in a store and caught my eye - or one at the very end that looked like a funny, but official, advertisement. (Not product placement, I promise!). All in Tokyo (or maybe one or two also from Yokohama) in Aug 2024... I find the "sticker culture" of various places I visit to be fascinating; pix are some o...

This shows one of the variants of the color vinyl pressing for the SCORE music of Beverly Hills Cop (the 1st movie) that was offered recently for the first time by Enjoy the Ride / Enjoy the Toons records, in conjunction with Paramount. Not sure what to expect yet from AXEL F and whether Eddie Murphy still "has it," but the original Bev Hills Cop is a classic, so this LP is bound to deliver!

@8:43 The cover with the off-kilter front/back is Taiwanese. The NT $160 price is consistent with the New Taiwan Dollar. In the fine print, while tough to read, seems to read 台北市南京東路五段64號地下一樓 which is a Taipei address. I'm not sure one way or the other, but this may count as a pirate, bootleg, or at least unofficial release - call it what you may. Copyright laws weren't established/recognized there until around 1995, so it wasn't technically illegal to press records without A&M's blessings, and that being the case, I'd be a little surprised if this were actually an official release rather than gray market.
Thanks for sharing. I hope he still brings the show to Europe. Next month he will be in Spain for three "Call The Police" shows so maybe he/his agent/his management will negotiate some shows for 2025 - who knows?!?

Great video. I really wish I could track down how rare my cover is - I've tried searching and haven't seen it. Front: RYB-Sting/Andy/Stewart - Sting's upper-left is the Synchronicity passage. Any ideas?

@@AWZeus There are some that took me longer to find than others and which seem a bit 'rarer.' Certainly, the "main" version is most common. It's difficult to ascertain relative manufacturing QTYs of the rest across such a small sample size. They sold MILLIONS, and I've got 40 domestic and probably as many foreign ones, but even 80 of the same album against millions made doesn't provide enough insight. You'd be hardpressed to command a higher price for yours, should you ever decide to sell it, versus any other copy, unless you happened to know that a buyer was looking for that one specifically.

hahaha Well, at least some people like to make sticker graffiti, because you see a lot of it! But, to be fair, it is usually placed in "hidden" locations, such as in between buildings or higher than normal eye level, etc. It is not always "in your face" or placed in obnoxious locations. I think it's a creative way to express one's self! hahaha
I love the product placement!

I will. Oh incidentally, one other I picked up was a CRC copy, the one that has fuschia instead of red. I happened to notice that if it's placed in a dimly light area, it actually looks red!

@jimverdi7990 Hi Jim, you certainly have touched upon one physical attribute of the synchronicity albums which I purposefully have not really gotten into. These albums were often pressed on a special type of vinyl called KC-600 audiophile vinyl. A physical attribute of the material itself, as you mentioned, is translucent,….. despite looking like it they are black when not held to the light. When held to the light, some appear more purple and the other appear more brown. In my experience, perhaps 10 to 20% of them are brown while the remaining are purple however, I do not consider these to be color vinyl. They were not marketed as such, and again this is a physical attribute of the actual KC-600 material itself that came that way from the vinyl supplier…. It is interesting and cool to discover as a little surprise, though, I totally agree with you. And although I cherish seeing the brown ones as the ones that seem to be a little bit scarcer, I do not assign greater value to them because they are brown. I don’t think anyone else is doing so, either. Here is an interesting discussion about it… forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/share-your-records-pressed-on-secret-quiex-type-vinyl-not-colored-clear-vinyl.285211/page-10
OMG Jay...I picked up a brown one today! I have to admit, it definitely doesn't "pop" like mine. I checked the matrix runouts in the deadwax area...mine is apparently a first pressing, I even have the "Police Around The World" order form! Sadly though, there's a big gouge on side one, but surprisingly, it plays without any issues. As for the new brown one, you really have to hold that one up to the light to see it. You got me hooked here! Incidentally, I happen to see one on eBay that I'm watching, which apparently is a Venezuela pressing! Has the song titled in Spanish on the label, followed by the English translation. On the plain old A&M label (light tan w/green letters). Very interesting. If you don't mind, I'd like to talk with you and compare notes, especially when I get the other 3 copies I ordered 🤦🏼♂️😂 I'm on Facebook, my last name is Verdi. Look for the profile that shows Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album cover. You can also reach me via email at jim_dei@yahoo.com. Looking forward to communicating with you, Jim
@@jimverdi7990 Hi Jim, the interesting thing about the Venezuelan one on eBay that you're eyeing is that it is a GATEFOLD sleeve. The art normally on the paper inner is instead printed inside the gatefold... Let me know when your new ones come in... and HAPPY HUNTING!

Jay, I've owned a copy of this album since it came out, and I only just heard about this last night from an acquaintance of mine who runs a local record shop. One detail you left out, (which goes into a whole different area) is the focus on the vinyl itself of each record. I held my record (what appears to the naked eye black vinyl), up to the light and BOOM! It's actually translucent purple! I NEVER knew it before he mentioned it to me, which drew me to watching your video, in hopes that you'd have touched base on it. Now, I'm very curious as to how many different colored translucent vinyl copies exist! Maybe you mention this in your part 2 video, which I haven't watched yet. I must say, I found your video quite enjoyable and it's nice to find someone else (like myself), who has such a high span of attentiveness to detail to be able to differentiate to the "average Joe". I hope somehow I can meet you some day. Thanks so much for the "variant" education and time you've spent on this album!

I think I may have a version that isn’t in your collection, the order of color stripes matches that of the UK versions: yellow, blue, red on front and blue, red, yellow on the bottom. The front cover matches one of the black/white or bronze, silver, gold versions but it has the color stripes. It is also missing “Murder by Numbers” side 2 ends with “Tea in the Sahara.” Also the band members are mixed up in each of the front color stripes i.e. yellow has Andy, Sting, Stewart, blue has Andy and Stewart, and red has pictures of Andy, Sting, Stewart. It says A&M 1983. Also there is the butterfly on the back cover. Very odd. Let me know if you want to see pictures. I’m going to rewatch your video and see if it is in there but I don’t think it is. It’s close to #31 but there are differences in the images. I think it might be one of the missing 30s it is close to 31 but there are image differences.
Thank you! GREAT video!!

Why were so many variations of this album made?
Essentially to be CREATIVE and FUN! Jeff Ayeroff apparently really allowed the designers to do things that were unusual and interesting...
One of the best album cover concepts of all-time. Great work on the vid. The printers must've been like wtf crazy rock band lol Is there a way to know the rarity of each of the 38 US set variations there are? Great find on the A&M execs to get the band to sign it. Especially Sting. A Sci-Fi collector in the UK I knew rode a train in France sitting across (somehow) from Sting and his wife. He pulled out a Sci-Fi mag he just purchased with Sting in the movie Dune on the cover. He asked him to sign it. Sting said "That's not me". He replied something to the effect "Well whomever it is you resemble the bloke. Could you be so kind as to sign it." Sting and Trudy laughed so he signed it. 28:00 '4 Colour ' is also referred to in graphic design and printing as '4-Color process' or sometimes 'Full color process' meaning the 'CMYK' printing process. Cyan Magenta Yellow and Black. 'K' also meaning Keyline or Key Plate (less common) which is always the black plate. Most often used for type. Black also being used for 'Registration marks' that look like a crosshairs in a circle that appear off of the image area to align the CMYK plates. which are later cropped off. Ah it's all coming back to me. I don't want to tell you about Rapidograph pens, gauche, rubylith, rub down trnsfers and photostats lol Then came computers.
Thanks for checking out both this video and also my Part 2 continuation video in full! Glad you got some enjoyment / amusement out of them!!! I appreciate your commentary about printer & graphics terminology… And in answer to your question, I personally cannot DEFINITIVELY ASSERT the relative rarity of each variety, except to say that the “main” variety seems to be far more common than all the rest of the color ones. The metallic ink with photos one is far more common than any of the Black&White ones, as well.
@@jaymatsueda627I dug up my original from the milk crate... @8:28 is in the list in your “The Police Synchronicity LP Variations --- PART 2” video Front #10 (1 of 2) #33 (B-R-Y Sting-Andy-Stewart Front; Y-B-R Sting-Andy-Stewart) Side One vinyl etching & label SP-03735-A-EUR-4 LABEL SP-3735 (SP-03735-A) Side Two vinyl etching & label SP-03735-B-EUR-3 LABEL SP-3735 (SP-03735-B) discogs release 10554362-The-Police-Synchronicity Jun 17, 1983 Issued with custom printed inner-sleeve with lyrics, credits and photos. Lowest:$1.88Median:$10.00Highest:$28.99 Under the Duane Michaels entry “The most common version is of Sting reading a copy of Jung's "Synchronicity".
In terms of the matrix numbers, yeah, I indicated at the beginning of my part one video that I don’t get into all the different matrix numbers because there would be too many stampers to account for. In that sense, Discogs lists out many more variations than there are cover versions. They are considering variations to be differences in the stamper etchings on the vinyl records, which is different than documenting the cover designs
@@jaymatsueda627 yes I remember you saying that. I added it out of interest. I never paid attention to the matrix numbers in fact. My main interest is where my cover art falls into the grand scheme. Your vids take the mystery out of it big time!!! I hadn't checked the discog variants for what most have been selling for to gage which might be more common to rare' But $10-28 isn't bad. A used store would probably give me 50 cents to a dollar lol It feels 'rarer' to me since it was at the bottom your your lists and only one of two in the photo arrangement the other being black & white. I'm personally am pleased with the photo montage compared to others. Mine has carefully placed tape on the bottom of the inner paper sleeve. The LP cut thru the thin paper. I keep them in the acid free sleeves like you do. It was nice getting them out.
Even with my hunt for all of these, I still feel that 40 variations is too small a sample size to be statistically significant, but among the color varieties, my intuition is that some of the ones with yellow or red top stripes are harder to hunt down. Also challenging is being sure SELLERS have listed their items correctly, because we don’t know if they realize that variants exist.
You could also refer to the last one as a 'comp' or 'comprehensive layout' (term we use in graphic design). Great videos of the covers.
Glad you enjoyed these. There will be a PART 3 eventually after I get one or 2 more missing items I seek!
@@JayMatsuedaOfficial Very nice. How long has it taken you to acquire the collection? I've collected items other than Vinyl such as Star Wars and have some originals a couple of them rare. My grandma was the one to track down some originals so I probably got that from her lol Often times it's the 'Thrill of the Hunt'. I have my original The Police vinyl LP's and obligatory used record store live bootlegs that are probably made out of melted tires. Synchronicity is the Common cover. It might be the best layout anyhow. The DTS 5.1 CD is a novelty. I recorded all of my vinyl to my Mac and some to CD via a USB turn table. Previously I used an analog turntable to a Pioneer Elite receiver line out to an AV Mac. That sounded pretty good. USB sounds better. Vinyl has that warmth.
Hey Jay - Went looking for a video to see all the versions, and OF COURSE the definitive breakdown was by you! By the way, I have the bronze/gold/silver one and the CRC one. (Is that the only one with the pink color?) Signed, your buddy with the clear record sleeves and Peter Hammill tapes.
hahahah Hey there! Guilty as charged... A Police freak thru and thru... You searched the vastness of the net to ultimately find expertise in your backyard! hahahah As far as the pink stripe, the CRC is the only U.S. variation with that color value. However, some international copies also use a value more similar to that pink than the standard red (but just a couple)
@@JayMatsuedaOfficial My bronze one has an insert sheet advertising the Police Around the World video. I may have missed you mentioning that, but it's kinda cool
@@CommuneRecords There are a few details I should point out, such as inserts... I will eventually have a PART 3 video, too, so I'll mention it at that time. I never even bothered to mentioned up to now the translucent purple vinyl (or how perhaps 10% of them seem to be translucent brown, instead"... Hold yours up to sunlight and have a look. It's not really black vinyl!
Bizarre!!

Hi again Jay. thanks for all your replies thus far. totally appreciate it very much. i went on ebay earlier to browse the synchro LP copies for sale and realized that the nude lady cover (front or back version) is not as rare as i had thought spotted quite a few copies with prices starting from 10usd. did not see any gold or b&w covers with the buy now option. also read a discogs commenter who mentioned that the b&w covers are due to a jacket printing error (due to no color ink in the printer?) but i doubt so. also found out through forums browsing that the brown vinyl version (when seen under bright light) is rarer than the purplish one. right now i just have 1 copy with the common cover and purplish vinyl. decided earlier that i will be going for 2 more copies with nude back and front and if im lucky to spot at nice prices the gold and b&w ones as well. lets see.
@jasonsouza77 I actually happen to have an extra copy of one of the ones with nude girl on it, on the back sleeve. It's cover #35 per my checklist, if you're using that to keep track - as a standardization resource for collectors. If you want to buy my extra, send me a DM via my Instragram of @JayConcertPix Cheers, Jay
hi Jay i need to ask u smth. is the variant with the nude girl considered rare? how many variations of the 3 colour variants (red blue yellow in any order) has the nude girl. a friend told me its not super rare but rarer than the non nudes and mentioned the gold/brass ones are rarer as well as those b and w ones. those without the photos are rarer than dinosaur fossils EDIT: just saw your video again. out of the 36 colored variants 1 has the nude gal on the front while 1 has it on the back. i will consider this to be pretty rare. 🔎
Hey there... The 6 commercially released Black&White ones [[[and 1 Black& White one which was never commercially released, shown in my 'PART 2' video]]] are far rarer and about 3 to 6 times more costly (depending on whether they are sealed) than the version with metallic color stripes that HAS the photos. The metallic stripes version WITHOUT photos is incredibly rare with only a 'suspected' 10 copies to have perhaps been made, but that was an approximation... and the whereabouts of only 2 copies are known today. The Black&White one which was never commercially released is only known to exist in the one copy that I have. The market would dictate the value of that B&W one or the 'No Photos' ones, but they would EASILY be several thousand dollars each, conservatively. --- As far as the layout with the nude woman on it, when you look at my checklist available via my Instagram, you'll see that it's on 2 color ones and 2 b&w ones (35, 36, 37 and 38)
Oh, and in my experience (although the sample size is too small to truly gauge accurately), I wouldn't say that any given color version is more rare than another, outside of the "main" version that I refer to being the most common...
I SUSPECT YOU HAVE THE MOST NUMBER OF VARIANTS OF THIS POLICE ALBUM IN THE WHOLE WORLD. SUPERB EFFORT IN COLLECTING ALL THESE
It's true... Since there is 1 variety with only 1 known copy, and a second variety with only about 10 suspected copies, there is not a more complete set than this right now - even though I am missing a few international items that have design differences to make the lot even better. Thx for checking out the videos! parts 1 and 2 both have rather special items at the end!
Man,what an amazing collection!!
Thank you... It wasn't by accident! This took WORK!!!!!!!
I have three Klark Kent albums as well as those 45s. (I love the Office Talk (Office Giirls?) on kazoo!) I think I have all of those pins. I used to wear them on the lapels of my jackets, like every other new wave asshole in 1983! THanks for posting this. What a great collection.
Japan really doesnt like graff... the overwhelming amount of stickers instead of actual tags or pieces proves that...
My question would be: How Many of those albums doesn't have murder by numbers
I would guess none of the standard 36 US versions have it.
COOL UPDATE! I randomly re-visited the URL for the secret menu item in May 2023, only to discover a DIFFERENT item compared with what was on offer in January! The spring summer 2023 item is a "Flaming Tomatina"!! Go check it out! Then tell me what you thought in the comments!
Good beginning intro into Dead music. You cats sound so much like Chicago it would be good to hear you do Only the Beginning by Chicago. The way they end the song is what i would've like to heard At Skull and Roses as the band was being rotated off the stage. Where are you cats playing nest?

This is an invaluable video to any vinyl freak like myself. I was aware of the cover variations back when the album was first released, but I didn't think much of it. Had I cared at the time, I would've bought every version I could find. Interestingly enough, I bought my original copy in Overland Park, KS at Peaches Records. That copy was a yellow stripe on top with Stewart on the goat in the middle. I first watched this video about a year ago. Since then I've revisited it several times and about three months ago I decided to go down the rabbit hole and attempt to acquire as may variations as possible. I know I'll most likely never find the black and white copies, but I've managed to find all but three of the colored versions in three months.
RUclips suggest to me this video on the right - ruclips.net/video/Lb6VKvFp5YM/видео.html which has a guy with 40 variants.. So some of them will be expensive, more so if they should be in a condition worthy of playing... Any varations on the CD covers ?
This particular arrangement is NOT on their album... The album also slays...
