    Just like in the BOM there was wars than goodness there are people who are brave enough to defend so we can worship how we like although some wars a for the elite and not to protect the people at all. follow the scriptures it happens just like in there. Thanks for this video.

    So, if we had a pre-emptivel strike to stop Hitler, that would have been wrong? Congress passed the Authoriztion for the Use of Military Force.There is no requirement that the phrase 'declaration of war" be in the title or body of any legislation to go to war.

      The authorities essential to the common defense are these: to raise armies; to build and equip fleets; to prescribe rules for the government of both; to direct their operations; to provide for their support. These powers ought to exist without limitation, BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FORESEE OR DEFINE THE EXTENT AND VARIETY OF NATIONAL EXIGENCIES, OR THE CORRESPONDENT EXTENT AND VARIETY OF THE MEANS WHICH MAY BE NECESSARY TO SATISFY THEM. The circumstances that endanger the safety of nations are infinite, and for this reason no constitutional shackles can wisely be imposed on the power to which the care of it is committed. This power ought to be coextensive with all the possible combinations of such circumstances; and ought to be under the direction of the same councils which are appointed to preside over the common defense. The Federalist No. 23

      I have tremendous respect for the Founders, they were wise men who God raised up to establish our nation. I honestly don't know what their standing would have been regarding "pre-emptive" strikes against a potential enemy on the enemy's soil. However, due to their strong feelings about staying out of "entangling foreign alliances," I suspect their definition of what constituted proper, defensive action, would be radically different than the very broad interpretation our military operates under today where almost "anything goes" (and it all falls under the label "defensive"). You may have skipped over the words of the modern prophets (and the scriptures contained in the notes) because you are defending current policy using strictly secular arguments. But, the whole purpose of this video is to get people to consider what the Lord has revealed regarding war (D&C 98:33-38) and then use His standard (or "measuring stick") to evaluate the policies of man, not the other way around.

      @RovingCounter 10 лет назад

      iBikeForFun Well, I posted Hamilton's views on the use of military force. As far as the founders on non-entanglments, James Monroe was a founder and he gave us the Monroe Doctrine, an entanglement. Jefferson at one point wanted an alliance to fight the barbary pirates. If not for America, freedom would not exist in the world today.

      ***** The Declartion of Independence says the US "and that as a free and independent the US has the full power to levy war, CONTRACT ALLIANCES, establish commerce, and do all the other acts and things independent states may of right do."

      ***** So what you are telling me is, the words of the Lord, His prophets, and scriptural examples have no bearing on proper war policy? What I'd really like to see are prophetic declarations or modern-day scriptural examples showing pre-emptive war as justifiable. If people ignore "God's word" then we are left only with the philosophies of men to justify the policies of men (and there's no surprise where that will lead us).

    I can tell you about warfare. All scriptures are filled with warfare, and part of warfare is pre-emptive strikes. No one wins a war and survives by staying on the defensive. Period. Never been done in the history of the world. And part of offense is pre-emptive strikes. A simple ambush is a pre-emptive strike, on a small scale.

      Also Moroni himself threatened to arm his women and children and follow the Lamanites into their lands and literally exterminate them. Also the constitution was established by Christ himself and it allows the states individually to preemptively (although defensively) wage war without congresses approval or a declaration of war when they are in immediate danger of attack. It also allows Congress to give the states or any one of them permission to wage war either defensively or offensively with or without a declaration of war. Food for thought for all those liberatarian mormons who haven't figured out that the founders were not liberatarians, the scriptures are not liberatarian and christ and the constitution are not liberatarian...

    Part 2 Later Nephites grew proud and war-like. They justified their pre-emptive strikes as retaliation (see Mormon 3:9-16). That's when Mormon resigned as their general. He explains why it was they were destroyed (Mormon 4:4-5). It's hard to fight defensively when you are in the enemy's land. If someone finds example in BoM where pre-emptive strike was 'approved,' let me know. I've yet to find one. Big question is; is current U.S. War policy like the early Nephites or the later?

    • @libertyordeath5630
      @libertyordeath5630 5 лет назад

      How about preemptive warfare in the constitution? Notice preemptive not preventative. States are allowed by the constitution to wage war when invaded or when in immediate danger of invasion without congresses approval or a declaration of war. Also the Congress can give approval for a state or states to wage war offensively for any reason without declaring war. Although why they would if the whole union was not at war doesn't make much sense ot still is technically possible under the constitution. How about offensive genocide threatened by captain Moroni? He threatened to arm his women and children and follow the lamanites into their lands and slay them blood for blood until they became extinct. This is genocide and a prophet of the Lord was willing to do it...

  • @iBikeForFun
    @iBikeForFun 11 лет назад

    God's standard for waging war is D&C 98. If He commands offensive strike it's okay (v33), but will do so only upon this standard (this justified Nephi taking Laban's life). Captain Moroni's armies seemed to take offensive at times, but careful reading shows they were recapturing land previously taken by enemy, so were still fighting within their own lands. Early on, the Nephites appointed righteous captains (see 3 Ne 3:19-21). They would only fight in their land (strictly defensive).

    • @libertyordeath5630
      @libertyordeath5630 5 лет назад

      The nephites were not commanded to fight in their own lands, they did so because they were always heavily outnumbered and because the lamanite lands were in something like a semicircle around the nephite lands. Defending means not only can you fortify but that because the lamanites likely would attack from multiple sides of the nephite lands that they could keep mobile reserve forces in the center of the land and then rush them to points of contact as reinforcements. The defenders always have interior lines of reinforcement which is a major advantage especially when you are outnumbered. Basically they fought defensive wars on their own terrain because they could not have won on the attack. In fact Moroni threatened to take back the land of nephi and also to genocide the lamanites but never mentioned this a second time because he probibly realized that he could not have won...

    • @libertyordeath5630
      @libertyordeath5630 5 лет назад

      Also what constitutes defense with modern weapons? If we launch cruise missiles over the border into mexico to stop a convoy of mexican drug cartel thugs from attacking our border patrol is this defensive? I mean we would be projecting force into their lands but only in order to defend ourselves and our territory from an imminent attack. Is dropping a bomb on a Muslim in Pakistan defensive if we know he planning to attack and kill our citzens? Or do we have to wait for them to cross the border first? This is a joke and total misreading of the scriptures...

  • @grayman771
    @grayman771 11 лет назад

    You need to read the scriptures a little more. Both the BoM and Holy Bible have lots of examples of pre-emptive strikes in warfare.

    The first part of this video is good, I agree the war in Iraq was unconstitutional. However, despite what LDS leaders have said, the church in my opinion has ALWAYS promoted pre-emptive strikes. Just look at Mountain Meadows. Heck, even in the BoM there are several example of pre-emptive war. Nephi, the BoM hero kills a drunk man because of what he might do in the future.

    I am baffled at how any member of the LDS faith can support these wars or Romney. I no longer practice, but was raised in the church.I was brought up being warned of impending New World Order. Romney is in full support of legislation that is stripping freedom and clearly designed to usher in the NWO. How are so many are completely blind to this? How can you just ignore the words of Christ & church leaders? Ron Paul is the only candidate my conscious will allow my to vote for.

    @iBikeForFun Yes it still applies. The Lord says that an offensive position is never authorized unless He commands it(D&C 98:33-38)We are justified in defending ourselves but we are to not be guilty of the neither the first nor second offense(Alma 43:46-47) The Lord says that if we will not revile against our enemies but patiently endure we will be blessed multi-fold(D&C 98:23-32) God truly is a God of peace that is why He has commanded us to"Therefore renounce war and proclaim peace"(D&C 98:16)

    @iBikeForFun There is no exception with regards to pre-emptive war. What you posted is correct and what I have been trying to point out to my family since we went to war with Iraq. Sadly some just refuse to see it. We were told the BOM is written for our day, yet we ignore what is in it. Maybe it's just because a lot of people skip the war chapters, idk. I just can't understand how any LDS or Christian for that matter can be ok with these wars.

  • @iBikeForFun
    @iBikeForFun 12 лет назад

    Your point seems reasonable. As I read where one army strikes out against another, I've looked to see if a pre-emptive strike was ever considered justifiable before the Lord. In every instance, the tipping point seems to hinge on where the strike/attack takes place. If within their own lands it is justifiable, but if beyond their borders it is not. They lose all divine help. I have yet to find an exception (see scriptural references below). Wouldn't this principle still apply to us?

  • @jodybright

    This video is true. However one example of justified war, which is found in the B of M, is a just strike on an enemy before a known impending attack. This, by definition, is an example of preemptive war, a strike to preempt a verified intent to attack one's people. This does not devalue this movie in the least as no such thing was ever verified on Iraq. Two things must be verifiable to justify such a strike, capability & real intent on the part of an enemy. I only suggest a change to the title.
