1945 Martin JRM-3 Mars For Sale
Просмотров 6 тыс.2 года назад
The Martin JRM Mars was conceived in 1941 as a patrol bomber, intended to scale up the already existing Martin PBM Mariner. Being the largest flying boat ever to enter Allied service during WWII, it was soon assigned the role of a transport aircraft instead. After successful tests in 1943, the Navy originally decided to order 20 aircraft. Later they reduced the order to only the five which were...

Nice S51. When you can't afford a real P-51 but still got money to burn.
Beautiful Bird! Nicely Done! 🇺🇸✈️😊
Great to see a woman working on airplanes. I worked at American Airlines Alliance Base for 17 years as an AMT and during the whole time I was there I don’t believe we had more than 3 female AMTs.
I ❤ THE GRAND-FATHERS WORK ! Patrick from 24H LE MANS, FRANCE !
The BF-109 was a great aircraft no doubt, but the landing gear always had such a fragile look.
Not only fragile but scary unstable. The history of ground loops and tip overs is terrible.
Lousy lighting; couldn't see any detail on the engine.
Thats so sick
Engine Sound: Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Wasp
А ведь полетит?!😢😂
Oh those growling piston engines when the plane goes away. Such beautiful music. Thank goodness they didn't change it to turboprops !
Due to the needed parts and also maintenance it had to be retired and we have other water tankers that far superceded these old birds and the first ones are the LOCKHEED C-130 older models that are in use today and the others that are used are the C-215 ones from CANADAIR and are ready when needed.
Very Nice indeed 👍
Awesome...! The best scaled replica of the mighty Mustang. Period. Cheers.

Very cool! I feel like the Germans are unfairly criticized for their actions during WWII. It's really great to see their history preserved and achievements celebrated!
"unfairly criticized for their actions during WWII" ??? Seriously?
@@alphasportstv Were you there? Haven't you heard the phrase "history is written by the victors"???
I think the Germans are very fairly criticized for their actions during World War II. Hitler was a despot who orchestrated unspeakable horrors. That being said, all history deserves preservation, and despite the side of the war this aircraft fought on, it is good to see it gets the preservation it deserves.
Please keep making frequent updates on project progress. Thank you
Un Daimler 601 restaurato da vintage V12s?
i want her so bad but i only have around 1200$ and a gaming computer is that enough?
I.....I just can't! It sounds too much like a Corvette!
It's powered by a 540cid big block, so that explains the vette like sound.
The only engine that sounds like a Merlin is a Merlin. The V12 engines that will fit under the cowling of scaled Mustang replica (Falconer V12, BMW V12) don't sound like a Merlin either.

I think these units were the peak of old flying boat technology. They were the best planes and were able to do several unique jobs/functions in use. Like all things that work or are not making someone a lot of cash they were overnight relegated to history with only a few exceptions still around or in use. I hope that someone brings these planes back and put them into some sort of specific use, complete with all the modern advances to make them fly better. And last a long time. I still think they have a use as passenger service planes, ones that provide a unique type of trip. Imagine sleeping on a plane while flying to your destination.
Für solche Dinge Geld ausgeben nicht für Krieg
Martin Mars.....fire stopper
I really don’t understand why they refuse to use these planes Coulson has six of these they are way bigger and are capable of knocking out a fire before it gets going. It makes no sense to me
Hi Folks, We need a new fleet if these with fanjet engines (over wings?) and re-designed for payload, anti-corrosion, and longevity in mind. Planet Earth needs several thousand of these to operate as a global consortium. That way they can folow the sun Very respectfully, R.
????
If I was a rich aviation enthusiast, like the late Didi Mateschitz, I would absolutely buy this thing and try to keep it flying as long as possilbe. Including the water bombing functionality.
Actually I am sure he thought that over, that thing is on sale for quiet some time. But the fact, that this beautiful engines require much more maintenance time than flying time, may have stopped him. Also the fact, that it would have even for Mr. Mateschitz been impossible to get a permission to land that plane on an Austrian lake. And at that time, we do not know what his son is up to with the Flying Bulls.
@@karloarsch1579 That makes sense. Thank you for your reply. :)
Of the original 7 built. There were two of these moored at Sproat Lake, east of Port Alberni. I was having in lunch in Youbou at a pub when I heard this deafening roar and scrambled out of my chair to go look. It was one of our Martin Mars scooping up water out of the lake. You talk about one thrilled gal to have witnessed this personally. I now have a life-long long love of this magnificent aircraft. Sure could use it now if the airplane's maintenance was financially viable, but unfortunately it is not. The other issue is it must have timely access a lake to take on water to fight wildfires. From the first airplane put into service in 1941 after Pearl Harbour to the present day, the history is extraordinary. We will almost surely never see the likes of her again in our lifetimes. I will always LOVE this aircraft ♥
I saw Kermit Weeks from Fantasy of Flight museum in Florida in the co-pilots seat. I think he has the other remaining Mars. I don't believe his is airworthy.
Both aircraft are still owned by Coulson and remain in Canada (at their Sproat Lake base on Vancouver Island) and Kermit paid to be able to fly it some years ago to Oskosh.

Meier motors ?
+@vrosi1963 Meier probably. And I think this Bf-109E might be the one that will be in Hungarian colors, very unusual. The Condor Legion Bf-109E is already painted.
What a beautiful Aircraft, yes it would be an excellent museum attraction. I hope it does end up in a museum.
My father in law was a flight engineer on the Martin Mars. Squadron VR8 Navel air transport service
The martinmars was built in Baltimore MD. At the martin Marietta aircraft co.
They should restore it to its original configuration and put it in a museum.
NO we need it to fight wild fires
There already is one in a museum , on the east coast of US , Philippine Mars rings a bell .
@@FEDERICOKUBRICK Greece could buy it, if it has the right price...Or rent it, if it's available, for that matter...We have a lot of smaller firefighting aircrafts, but we could definately use even one of such a capacity...
Timeless
After the one that crashed in Miami, FL when it lost its wings, I am scared of them
By that time Chalks was cutting corners and getting airworthy passes on their fleet when they shouldn't have. That accident was waiting to happen.
What a beautiful old girl she is.
sweet my dad had a widgeon back in the late 60s
They don't exactly leap into the sky do they?
I would buy it in a heartbeat
LADS this is the biggest flying boat we will ever see on market
That is certainly one huge aircraft and would have been absolutely humongous back in 1945 .
Come on Kermit, you need to buy her!🙏
splendid 🙂✌️️️!!! Find out the secret - P r o m o S M!!
For an asking price of a mere $5M, you too can own this gorgeous aircraft! Problem is, it'd take you another $3-5M to fly the thing...between maintenance, training, fuel and (if you can even get it) insurance. But if a person won the $500M lotto and had $8-10M of chump change lying around, then this would be a real hoot on a fly-in fishing trip with about 100 of your closest friends.
Coulson Aviation did not convert the aircraft to fight forest fires. That was done by MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. Coulson's eventually bought the aircraft and did some modernization.
Now I know what I want for Xmas lol
I’m definitely interested. That is if you agree to zero down, zero percent interest, and a 130 year term.
