1930's Starck bagpipe
Helping to sell this set for a friend. Audio quality not superb for the pipe here but I have also made a recording on my SoundCloud page that is accessible.

After having to have my computer wiped clean, I was worried that I had lost this recording. Rather than run into that again, I figured I would share it on here. This is the recording of my MSR from Inverness in 2018 where I was lucky enough to win and receive a Silver Star. As of right now, there are only three people outside Scotland that have won this event. Jack Lee, Bruce Gandy, and myself.

Your paw must love ye and hate ye at the same time! Great playing, Alex. I'm more of Bruce's generation, and I must say, it's great to see each new generation raiding the bar, decade by decade
Hi alex
Great playing, awful backdrop! A bit of tidying wouldn’t have gone amiss!
@@thebaron5206 at the time of recording, this room was set up as my wife’s highland dance studio. The sheet hanging on the bar was to try to soften the acoustics for recording pipes as there was minimal furniture in the room and quite loud. I was thinking folks would prefer a well balanced audio rather than a perfect backdrop but here we are. Cheers @thebaron5206
@@agandy7 I’m sure they would Alex, but they’d probably wonder why they couldn’t have both! Just some feedback to think about for the future. Overall presentation of the public performance.
@@thebaron5206 cheers. I look forward to seeing a video of you playing in a pristine room.
@@agandy7 Certainly! Just a clip, feedback welcomed, a practise video so sound not great accepted! ruclips.net/user/clipUgkxQWweJtknM710UG3XkLYcTRYC-Zhh2ToK?si=HsGsghx9jpLLjOtX,
Interesting Alex plays the Siubhal differently to his father!
No luck there Alex!
Nice n warm
I have a set of Starck's that look identical to these and they were my grandfathers from the early 1920's. Love em.
Superb! Too class instrument in the hands of a top class player!
I saw the drum corps hiding in the armchair. My drum corps would have been singing louder than those pipes :-) I hope he/she had ear-plugs.
Magnificent.
Yasssss Alex. Play Angus MacDonald
Oh, Angus, whit a hard man! Former QVS schoolmate and Scots Guardsman
Big Angus was my Instructor at the College of Piping. What a player and a real Gentleman. I did love big Angus. And a great tune played outstanding on a beautiful Instrument.❤
The Starcks have a nice ring on its tone. Very pretty.
This is the meditation, so beautiful.
Lovely crisp playing and phrasing
pure majic
That was utterly gob-smacking BRILIANT playing!!! Awesome!
As i get older (82) i find i miss more doublings. An F doubling here, a C doubling there…maybe my thumb misses the touch on a high A doubling. Thus, i can predict that Alex will miss a gracenote or two after age 150. Until then he can bask in perfection.
Great playing Love the control
Alex… what masterful playing/execution! Amazing set of pipes the consistency and tonal qualities of the drones are the best I’ve heard… care to share information on bag/MCS if used at all? Thanks!
Such an epic tune. Love the crunluath. Not sure what you call that type of variation. Like a braebach with an additional passing note similar to Mary MacLeod. I like this style. I also once heard Willie MacCallum play the final variation straight or even to nice effect as well. Nice tune!
what bag is this?
awesome!
Thanks for posting - glad you found the recording.
It truly does not get any better than this...Talk about playing in the zone
What are the tune names?
The first march is Jimmy Young. After that, not sure.
Jimmy Young / Morag Ramsay / The Bob of Fettercairn / Kirsty McCalman’s Favourite/ Drumlithie / Neil Angus MacDonald
@RuairidhEve Is it not Krsty macllellans favourite by capt john a macllellan.
Outstanding!
A fantastic performance Alex. Most illustrious company you keep, but no luck about it. Plenty of sweat and tears though!
Love you dad special bagpipe family
Are you playing the new Naill Vintage drones? Are you able to provide an opinion on why you went Vintage over the traditional set? (Beautiful playing/sound - what drone reeds were you using?). Thanks!
What clan is that tartan on the socks? ;)
Great tone and execution! I’m looking to purchase a set after a 20 year layoff. Would you mind telling us a little about your set up? Pipes/maker/model; chanter/maker/style/reed; saw the response on bag type... no moisture control - is the bag seasoned - role of the zipper? Thanks for the help!
Have always loved the March! The chanter is cracking!! Have you published the jig in anyone's book? I'd love to buy a copy. Awesome set! "Controversy" was spot on!
Tune names please. I recognize the Strathspey and Reel (though can't think of the name), but I don't believe I've ever heard the March. Beautifully done! Thanks.
The name of the March is “George Stuart Aumonier”
Hi Alex, I'm looking to get a hide bag for my solo pipes. I see you are playing a Lee and sons bag. What style and size are you playing here? I'm guessing being hide there's no moisture control? Cheers Grant from Ontario
I’m playing a Lee and Son goatskin bag in the “Gandy” cut. It comes in any hide, goat, sheep, cow, or their premium style.
@@agandy7 thanks man, Cheers!
Repping the Winnipeg brewing scene, nice!
Nice tune Alex
nice to see the DOJO banner in the back
Very good bass section
Delicious:)
yes the cameronian rant you need to keep the strong weak medium weak going good alex william
Um yeah, I guess he kinda did that...
@@haworth5What would you know about piping .
Well done Alex !
Very nice sound. Alex, for an MSR please consider playing the 2/4 march, "Michael Grey's March Through New Zealand".
Imagine its a chill October morning your hunkered down in your trench; thinking of home, a warm bed and that blonde two doors down. Those blasted Canadians have been shelling you for days. And then the shells stop and from far away you hear the bagpipes hum to life. How scared are you?
Enjoyable ... especially the use of a 4-4-4 MSR and getting some new material on the field. Less = more.
Great! Wish we'd been there.
