The goal of the electric mobility is to lower our carbon footprint. If you drive a PHEV, you can achieve that if you maximize the use of the electric motor (less than 80 km daily commute) and minimize the use of the petrol engine (sporadic drives longer that 80 km). Obviously, it all depends on specific personal needs and habits. Also, it only makes sense to own a PHEV if you can charge it overnight, every night. Your carbon footprint will also depend on whether the electricity that you consume is produced from renewables or not.

Toyota is the “Philips” with the audio cassette, filament bulbs and planned obsolescence, viciously fighting against other technologies and refusing to advance so that they do not cannibalize their current cassette business, while Tesla is the company with the CD/DVDs and LED bulbs.
