Welcome to Dream Travel Spot! In this guide, we explore #Rankothvehera, one of the most famous stupas in the ancient city of #Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka. Whether you’re interested in its location, rich history, unique features, or the spiritual journey of Rankoth Vehera Wandanawa, this article covers everything you need to know. We’ll also share nearby attractions and travel tips to help you plan the perfect visit. Location of Rankoth Vehera Rankoth Vehera is located in Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved ancient cities in Sri Lanka. Polonnaruwa served as the island’s capital during the 11th and 12th centuries, flourishing under Sinhalese kings. Rankoth Vehera is positioned in the Quadrangle, an area rich with religious monuments. History of Rankoth Vehera Rankoth Vehera was built during the reign of King Nissanka Malla in the late 12th century. The stupa’s name translates to "Golden Pinnacle Stupa", referencing its original gold-plated spire. As one of the largest stupas in Sri Lanka, it stands as a testament to the religious dedication and architectural prowess of the Polonnaruwa Kingdom. King Nissanka Malla, known for promoting Buddhism, ordered the construction of Rankoth Vehera as a sacred site for worship. It remains a central landmark in Polonnaruwa, reflecting the kingdom's spiritual heritage. Features of Rankoth Vehera Rankoth Vehera is a brick stupa, standing at an impressive height of 55 meters (180 feet) with a diameter of 54 meters (177 feet). It is the fourth-largest stupa in Sri Lanka and was designed to hold sacred Buddhist relics. Surrounding the stupa are four shrine houses or vaharas, placed at the cardinal directions. These vaharas serve as important places of worship for devotees and add to the architectural symmetry of the monument. The stupa itself is encircled by a stone platform, which was used for pradakshina (circumambulation) by worshippers. One of the unique features of Rankoth Vehera is the stone inscriptions near the stupa, providing insight into the religious and political history of the time. Rankoth Vehera Wandanawa (Pilgrimage) Rankoth Vehera Wandanawa is a significant pilgrimage for many Buddhists. Visitors come to Polonnaruwa to pay homage to this sacred site by offering flowers, lighting oil lamps, and performing Bodhi Pooja (ritual offerings to the sacred Bo tree). The stupa's serene atmosphere, combined with the spiritual energy of the place, makes it an ideal location for meditation and reflection. Rankoth Vehera Wandanawa is not only a religious journey but also a way to connect with Sri Lanka’s Buddhist heritage. Nearby Attractions in Polonnaruwa Gal Viharaya Vatadage Lankathilaka Image House Parakrama Samudra Travel Tips for Visiting Rankoth Vehera Best time to visit: Early morning or late afternoon is ideal for visiting to avoid the midday heat and enjoy the stupa in golden light. These times also provide fewer crowds, enhancing your experience. Dress code: As Rankoth Vehera is a Buddhist religious site, visitors should dress modestly. Ensure your shoulders and knees are covered, and remove your shoes before entering the shrine areas. Entrance fees: Rankoth Vehera is part of the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Site, and the entrance fee is approximately $25 USD for foreign visitors. This fee covers access to all major historical sites within Polonnaruwa. How to get there: Polonnaruwa is about a 5-6 hour drive from Colombo or Kandy. Hi guys. Today we are going to see Rankoth Vehera, the tallest pagoda of the Polonnaru period and the 4th largest stupa in Sri Lanka. Because of its bubbly shape, it resembles the Anuradhapura Ruwanweli Maha Seya and also known as Rathnawali Chethiya and Ruwanweli Dagaba. The current height of Rankoth Vehera is 108 feet and the diameter of the base is 550 feet. Around the pagoda you can see four Vahalkada (frontispiece) which are constructed using brick, and Pilimage (image houses). Carvings of elephants, lions, dwarfs, and blooming lotus flowers has been featured at the Vahalkada. Historical records reveal that construction of this stupa was initiated by Queen Rupawathi, a consort of King Parakramabahu, and later completed under the royal patronage of King Nissanka Malla. It is said that King Nissankamalla adorned the stupa with a golden spire and later it is named as Rankoth Vehera (Golden spire Stupa). Let’s explore the interior of the image house. Inside the image house, the ceiling is constructed in a manner resembling the inner shape of a pyramid, constructed entirely out of bricks. Upon entering the Buddha shrine, you’ll find a stone inscription on a slab at the entrance. Here, you can also witness the remains of a reclining Buddha statue and intricately carved stone windows. Rankoth Vehera is located between the Manik Vehera and the Alahana Pirivena in the Polonnaruwa archaeological complex. We are now near the sacred Bodhi tree of Rankoth Vehera. At the center of the square enclosure of the stupa, you can see four symbolic wheels representing the sun. We warmly invite you to walk around the vast sand terrace of Rankoth Vehera and experience its serene atmosphere. Don’t forget to subscribe to our RUclips channel, Dream Travel Spot, and like, comment, and share our videos to support us. Until we meet again at another beautiful destination, have a wonderful day!

Hi guys. Today we are in a very beautiful area at the foot of Pidurutalagala. That is Mandaramnuwara. Mandaramnuwara is a beautiful village surrounded by Piduruthalagala, Gonapitiya, Kabaragala and Uduthulla mountain ranges. There are many other stories about Mandaramnuwara But, today we are going to another unique destination that will increase the tourist attraction of Mandaramnuwara. That is to visit Kabaragala Falls. As you can see, the roads are a bit difficult to navigate. Therefore, if you go here, we suggest that you go in vehicles with more ground clearance. No matter the road, there is no lack of surrounding beauty. Through the fog, and the tea plantations, we reach to see the Kabaragala waterfall. Here we came to see Kabaragala Falls. Kabaragala Falls is located at the end of Kabaragala Estate and close to Mandaram Eco Resort. You can see the beauty of the waterfall by climbing up here. Road is a bit difficult. But be careful. When you come up, you can look at the beautiful surroundings. This beautiful Kabaragala Falls is formed by the stream of water created from the Pidurutalagala mountain flowing through the Pidurutalagala reserve and falling down a cliff at the end of the Kabaragala forest through Kabaragala Oya. And at the end, it goes through Randenigala and joins Belihul Oya Reservoir. At the begining, these streams flowed from here. But now this water flow through this pipe is going to a small hydropower plant. So, friends, we invite you to visit Mandaramnuwara as well as this beautiful Kabaragala Falls. Don't forget to subscribe to Dream Travel Spot's RUclips channel and like, comment, and share the videos. Until we meet in another beautiful destination, have a great day everyone

Welcome to Dream Travel Spot! In this video, we’re taking you to the ancient city of #Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka, to explore one of its lesser-known historical treasures-Pabalu Vehera. This hidden gem offers a glimpse into the rich history, stunning architecture, and spiritual significance of ancient Sri Lanka. Stick around as we dive into the location, history, and key features of Pabalu Vehera, plus some nearby attractions that will make your trip to Polonnaruwa unforgettable! Location: Where is Pabalu Vehera in Polonnaruwa? Pabalu Vehera is located within the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle. This ancient city is about 200 kilometers northeast of Colombo and is one of the most significant historical destinations in the country. Pabalu Vehera is situated near key landmarks such as Rankoth Vehera and Kiri Vehera, making it easy to include on your itinerary when exploring the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa. History of Pabalu Vehera The Pabalu Vehera Stupa was likely built during the reign of King Parakramabahu I (1153-1186 AD), although its exact origin is not well-documented. It’s believed that one of King Parakramabahu’s queens commissioned the construction of this stupa, which was named “Pabalu” (meaning beads) after the discovery of beads during archaeological excavations. Like other stupas in Polonnaruwa, Pabalu Vehera was a focal point for Buddhist religious rituals, serving as a place for meditation and worship. While it may not be as large or as famous as some of the other stupas in the city, its peaceful atmosphere and historical significance make it an essential stop for those interested in Sri Lanka’s ancient Buddhist heritage. Key Features of Pabalu Vehera Here are some of the standout features that make Pabalu Vehera a must-see when visiting Polonnaruwa: Unique Stupa Design: Pabalu Vehera follows the traditional bell-shaped stupa design, common in ancient Sri Lankan architecture. While not the largest stupa in Polonnaruwa, its compact size and well-preserved brickwork give it a distinct charm. Four Shrines (Viharas): Surrounding the main stupa, you’ll find four small viharas or shrines, each housing fragments of ancient Buddha statues. These shrines were used for spiritual practices and add to the site’s sacred ambiance. Detailed Brickwork and Carvings: While much of the decoration has been worn down over time, you can still see remnants of the intricate brickwork and decorative carvings that once adorned the structure. These details showcase the craftsmanship and artistry of the ancient builders. Quiet and Peaceful Setting: Unlike the more popular sites in Polonnaruwa, Pabalu Vehera is often less crowded, allowing for a more intimate and reflective experience. It’s the perfect spot for travelers looking to escape the bustling tourist crowds and enjoy a moment of serenity. Nearby Attractions in Polonnaruwa Gal Vihara Polonnaruwa Vatadage Rankoth Vehera Kiri Vehera Parakrama Samudraya Why Pabalu Vehera Should Be on Your Polonnaruwa Itinerary While Pabalu Vehera may not be as famous as some of Polonnaruwa’s larger attractions, it offers a more tranquil and intimate experience, perfect for those looking to connect with the spiritual essence of ancient Sri Lanka. Its rich history, unique architecture, and peaceful setting make it a must-visit for history enthusiasts and travelers alike. As you explore the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Park, be sure to spend some time at Pabalu Vehera to appreciate its hidden beauty and historical significance. It’s one of the many reasons why Polonnaruwa remains one of Sri Lanka’s most fascinating ancient cities. Hi Guys! Today we are going to see the Lotus Tower which is known as the tallest tower in South Asia. You need to buy a ticket to enter the Lotus Tower. You can visit Nelum Kulun on weekdays from 9 am to 9 pm and on weekends from 9 am to 10 pm. Let's go inside the Lotus Tower. We enter this hall first. There are 4 entrances to reach the Lotus Tower. Two of them are reserved for special guests. The construction of this tower started in January 2012, and opened to the public in September 2022. Here you have to go through the part of Pixel Bloom if not South Asia's first Digital Art Gallery. If we enter Pixel Bloom, we need to buy a separate ticket (Rs.350). After that, we were shown the ticket and allowed to enter the elevator. There are 8 elevators here. We reached the 29th floor in just 48 seconds with the fastest elevator in South Asia. Our ears are locked, because it goes faster in less time. But after a while it is fine. We are now in the observation deck on the 29th floor. Here you can see a 360-degree view very beautifully. From here, you can see Maradana Station, Colombo Port, Aluthkade Court, and many other places in the distance. If we mention about the Lotus Tower, total height of the Lotus Tower is 350 meters. Also, the land size is 30600 square meters. The Lotus Tower is the tallest in South Asia and occupies 11th place among the tallest towers in Asia. Also, the 19th tallest tower in the world is the Lotus Tower in Sri Lanka. A project dedicated to water sports called Aque Bay, is being implemented under the management of Lotus Tower in Beira Lake where you can see in front. Here you can see the Bank of Ceylon building, the World Trade Center, the President's Secretariat, Galle face, and Port City. This place is an ideal place for bird eye photography. From this side, you can see the parliament building as well as Adam's Peak on a clear day. BMICH, Nelum Pokuna, and other places can be seen from this side. Kelani Bridge and Premadasa Stadium can be seen from this side. After seeing the surrounding beauty, we came back to the ground floor. If we talk about the rest of the other floors, the 27th floor is equipped with a revolving restaurant designed to rotate 360 degrees and 255 people can eat at the same time. Also, the 25th and 26th floors are reserved for function halls. The open area on the 3rd floor or where the lotus flower begins to bloom has been reserved for various events. The second floor is reserved for offices, lectures, and conferences and the first floor is reserved for restaurants and coffee shops. There are places where you can buy souvenirs and various shops on the ground floor. Here you can buy various kinds of beautiful souvenirs. So, guys, it's time to say goodbye. Don't forget to subscribe to Dream Travel Spot's RUclips channel and like, comment, and share the videos. Until share another beautiful experience with you we saying goodbye. Have a great day everyone.
