I know the tuning of this instrument, it's the same as the lowest 3 strings of a Violin (G3, D4, A4) because alot of older music on the Island of crete were playing Violin & they later took on the Lyra which is a greek version of that instrument.
what mic is on the Lyra? :o

Can I ask where did you get this drum?
@@NicoleMariaDance absolutely! There is a maker in Greece by the name of Archangel custom percussion on Facebook. I spoke directly with them and they sent to me.
The Greek Tambouras and Turkish Saz are different. The turkish saz has a long neck but generally features a larger, deeper, and more rounded body compared to the tambouras. It often has tied frets, which allow for microtonal tuning used in Turkish and Middle Eastern music. The Tambouras has a long neck, a relatively small, shallow body, and is typically strung with metal strings. It is fretted, often with movable frets. The Tambouras typically has fewer strings (commonly 2-4 courses, doubled or single) compared to the saz. The tuning varies but is simpler, often focusing on diatonic scales. Whereas the Saz, often has more strings (6-12) arranged in courses. It is tuned in a way that accommodates modal scales (makams), common in Turkish music. Finally, the playing styles differiencate. Turkish playstyle is more middle eastern and turkic folk repertoire with warmer whereas Greek has Byzantine traditions and tuned differently. So all in all, please change the title as yes, you're using the Saz but its not a Greek instrument. Thank you!
@CGokce6 Saying the saz is not a Greek instrument is false. The saz is undeniably a Greek instrument the same way it is a Turkish one as both countries play the instrument and it is shared by both cultures. Also there are many different variations of the saz, mainly being the long and short neck variations but there are others like meydan saz and tambura saz, I personally play a long neck saz and I appreciate the common factors of both Greek and Turkish culture. Also, I would like to add that there is very little central Asian influence in Turkish music, and Turkey is way more similar as a culture to Greece and Bulgaria as compared to central Asia, ive been to both Bulgaria, Greece and Azerbaijan, and I would like to say that Turkish culture is more similar to Greece and Bulgaria.
@ÖmerRao-t7n hi I think you misunderstood. Please read on this matter and don’t take personal experience as fact. Historically the modern Turkish saz *influences* has been brought from Turkic migration to Anatolia. They were using an instrument called the kopuz and the migration coupled with influences in the region caused a fusion. Civilisations evolve in parallel. No one evolves in a vacuum. Calling the saz ‘undeniably’ greek is so wrong…it’s like saying yogurt is undeniably Greek. It’s more accurate saying that there was a cultural mash- a fusion that evolved with turkey using it mostly in its history. Variations of saz: Yes that it is true there is a lot of variations of saz. *However* , the tambura is not a saz. It is technically wrong (like I explained). You’re putting a square in a circle. Turkish music relies heavily on makams (complex modal systems), microtonal intervals, and Middle Eastern influences, reflecting its Ottoman and Turkic foundational heritage. Greek music, especially in Byzantine tradition, emphasizes diatonic scales, polyphony, and distinct tuning systems. In conclusion, you compared both instruments, while related, are distinct instruments with deeply different cultural roles. The statement there is no/little influence of Turkic culture in Turkish music is incorrect: If you understood the musical values you will see that Turkish music, yes, is influenced with surrounding countries and vice versa. No doubt. *But* Turkish music today incorporates pentatonic scales, microtonal tuning and most importantly storytelling through music -which they incorporate așik traditions rooted deeply in Central Asia. So yes it’s obviously similar to the music around it but don’t dismiss what the turkic influences are. Turkic roots remain foundational especially in folk traditions. Yes, Turkish culture would be similar to the neighbouring countries but *similarities does not negate distinctiveness*. Turkish elements in culture, folk music (türkü), folklore differentiates it from Greek and Bulgarian cultures. Just for context: I have a doctorate in Cultural Anthropology
@CGokce6 I appreciate the information, and I understand where you are coming from, I agree with most things you say. However, my belief of an instrument belonging to a culture is slightly different than yours. The saz is Originally a Turkish instrument, yes, and it's cousin the tambouras is originally Greek, but due to cultural interactions, Turkey and Greece share a lot of their culture, which is why I stated that the saz is Greek, because it is a part of Greek culture. I understand you are far more educated than me on the topic, and I'm neither Greek nor Turkish, but I just felt like sharing my opinion.
@ sure thing! I agree they share a lot in common and like I said the influences are both from the countries it neighbours as well as its original turkic origin.

You cant just put an i at the end of everything then claim it to be greek

@@Dimitrios_Dallas Certainly something to be said about Baklava, Ayran, Cacik, and plenty other cultural heritagr
@@TEECEE46 yes yes saz baglama, Turkish instrument, blah blah blah. We know it's Turkish. In Greece it's called a sazi, because Greek words don't typically end with a "Z". Same thing with the Oud. It's called Outi because ending a word with a vowel like T is weird. Or the laouto being a lute. We don't claim it's a Greek instrument, and although it's not as popular as the bouzouki, it's still played in some Greek music. So calm down
