Welcome back to another book review! In today's video I review the 1993 sci-fi novel Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. I talk all about how disturbingly accurate this book predicted the future, as well as breaking down the intricacies of the religion created by this book's protagonist (Earthseed). First Video! Ubik Breakdown

Hello and welcome to my channel! For my first ever RUclips video, I've prepared a deep dive into the sci-fi classic Ubik by Phillip K. Dick. This book is a mind-bending, reality-questioning roller coaster of satire, humor, and philosophical questioning. Check out my thoughts and analysis in this breakdown and let me know what you think in the comments below!
Great review. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the ending though. I've only just finished the book and am looking for an explanation 😂
Too quiet
Excellent review.
have you read anything from russian literature? interesting if us people read such books as - The Twelve Chairs - by Ilf and Petrov
Really enjoyed this review and the Ubik one as well. I love hearing people's interpretations, it's like an online book club! I agree the resemblance to today's world is eerie, Octavia didn't pull her lunches so the violence is visceral but also very realistic. A film/TV adaptation would be interesting. I'd love to hear your thoughts on any other books you've been reading, in this genre especially. This is a long shot, but if you're up for a different take on sci-fi, The Wall Around Eden by Joan Slonczewski is underrated in my opinion. General premise is that a nuclear war wrecks the atmosphere, but some towns/cities are enclosed in domes by elusive, silent, angelic aliens. The book is set 20 years after in a small town, and the new generation want to break free and ascertain the aliens' motivations.
To me this is a follow-up to the Bible's prediction of tribulation at the end of mankind. Very prophetic. So happy I am on the path of Trust and Obey the God of the Bible, for the glory of Jesus Christ
I hadn't seen it that way before, but you make a great point. It makes more sense to me now that Lauren has Earthseed come to her, it's like the world has come to the end of the Bible so a new text is needed for humanity to continue. It's much scarier to think that the natural disasters, hellfire (pyro) and torture at the end would come from other humans, as opposed to demons or God's direct wrath... (I'm not religious so I may have misinterpreted the Bible here.)
I just finished this novel, a lot of questions still in my mind, maybe there’s hidden story line I did not get through.🧐

Great recap!
One of the plot theories I heard about was the aliens are turning horses into human, I don’t think it’s an ape palm, I think it’s a horse turning human. I don’t think it’s going to sacrifice the horse I think they ll turn into human thru all the audience. Personal opinion! Nice channel bro bless
Very detailed and with some unmentioned aspects. Well done. The horse in the beginning is a woman screaming. That is one trick to throw your mind while thinking something else is making the sound; then it bleeds into the horse whinnie.
The mutation theory seems to be getting traction... I don't want to know before I see the movie though.
It bugs me that she's wearing a green shirt in front of a green screen in the trailer. Her sweater wouldn't show up on film if she's wearing green in front of a green screen. All the shirts for sale are green and when she gets sucked up into the air she's wearing green. The creatures have cold grey faces, they aren't little green men. And instead of NOPE meaning "not of planet earth" what if it means "not ON planet earth?" And what's with the flying horses theme? An up-side down horse in the trailer, for example. Another is the line of flags coming from the eye in the sky was in the car dealership in the trailer. Cars work on horsepower. What's up with that? And the history of the first film with the man on a horse was made to study horses and how they move. They filmed it to see if, at any point, all four of a horses legs were off the ground at once. Flying horses, man. It's a big part of this film.
Great video . To me the arm looks like a monkey/ape arm. Also, the sound you hear before the horse runs away from the UFO sounds like a monkey screech instead of a horse if you listen closely
I definitely wasn’t thinking about monkeys, because I’ve been assuming the movie is about aliens, but I can see what you mean! The sound before the horse runs off in particular sounds a bit different from a horse, but I originally assumed it was just distorted
And "A Scanner Darkly," which is the best of the lot.
Good review. And pleasant to listen to. Thanks for further sharing the insight about a black woman fleeing north.
There is also "A scanner darkly" which was made into a film and "the man in the high castle" got a whole series.
Also adjustment bureau and the movie next. As well as the series electric dreams.
Would like to hear ur take on his exegesis. Crazy read.
Just watched the movie. I think both Lena and Kane blew up their real selves. They both came back as aliens. How do I know? At the very end when they're hugging in the isolation room, the colors of their eyes changed to that shimmer light. That indicates that they're aliens living among people. There will most likely be a sequel to this movie.

Really liked this thoughtful review! Have you read Parable of the Talents? I found it really challenged my feelings about Lauren and Earthseed from reading the first book. Not a sequel that nicely raps up the story at all; left me very unsatisfied/regretful (in an interesting way).
I just finished it the other day! I totally agree that it forces you to consider Lauren from a very different perspective. Personally, I liked the ending, but you’re right that it does leave you a bit sad and with a lot to think about
Sahil convinced me to watch this with him like two years ago, fantastic movie. Good takes in the Ship of Theseus and love the reference to WandaVision! Might be time for me to rewatch this soon...
Hell yeah! Keep making these videos!
