Translucent Brass Powder Coating over Polished Aluminum

In my opinion, one of the most difficult translucent powders to shoot. Even coverage is essential. If you apply too much, the heavy spots show up as darker areas. If you put on too little, you'll have a light spot.

I Messed Up on This One: Nickel Vein Bumper

I neglected to see that this powder would require a clear coat for outdoor use. My customer had already picked it up and installed it before I figured it out. I gave him the option to bring it back and I would fix it, but he decided to just leave it. I also gave him an open ended warranty on it, so he could bring it back any time in the future and I would re-coat it. It's been about 3 years now...

I have such a hard time shooting gloss!! Can I ask what's your gun settings when you shoot it?
@@dieselwilson9767#1 question: Where do you get your powder?
@CrosslincBiz usually either prismatic or Columbia
What size is this cabinet? Im upgrading currently. I like your cab. Are you happy with it? (And who makes it?)
This is a Trinco cabinet. Inside dims 72x48x36. The cabinet is good, the direct pressure system and reclaimer is what makes it awesome. trinco.com/product-category/blast-cabinets/direct-pressure-systems/
When vice won't come out at the very end like that, screw it back in look closely where it's binding up and hit it with a Mill file. You should never pound it like you did.
Good input.
Definitely the best on RUclips
whoever made this cabin is an idiot. A small cabin is always enough if it has little doors on the sides for long objects. But if you're stupid, even a house-sized cabinet won't be enough.
It's time 😎
What is the sticker/design you made? Was it high temp and able to bake with it on? That looks so cool!
It's basically the same green high temp polyester tape we use for masking with powder coating, but it comes in a wide roll with a backing on it so you can cut it in a vinyl cutter. It stays on during the cure process.
What are you using for a filter
The hopper assembly comes with a membrane in the bottom of it. I'm not sure what it's made of.
🤣... I sure was looking like you forgot one..
A that's Nice!⭐
Awesome!!!

Hello, you removed the masking tape after the oven ? What type of masking tape do you use ? Thank you
The tape is removed after a partial cure in the oven. The part is only around 180 deg F. The orange tape is Custom Shop K-Tape Fineline Tape.
@@CrosslincBiz thank you 😊
You are a true PROFESSIONAL, man! I appreciate all your knowledge and your pride of work. Was that last coat over the orange paint, where it almost looked white again, a UV coating of some sort? I have this exact chair, a Craigslist buy. I want to perk it up some for my own use, but thankfully it's not in as rough of shape... Because I have no where near your know-how or equipment. lol But this was inspiring to watch and motivating to do as good of a job as I can. Thanks ! (You wouldn't happen to know the year or brand of this chair?)
Thank you! The white powder is a clear coat. It protects against UV. Here's a great resource for these chairs. There's also a Facebook group that is very helpful in identifying what you have. www.vintagemetalchairs.com/?fbclid=IwY2xjawE5sGFleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHVsAQJQVeO22PXLEehUiPN7yRb0O51WzQw0CLRP8TVxQkR_be1e8wvvucQ_aem_pq09XVbVKbJoTGjP-E28xw
Do you have to heat set the Tiger Epo Strong before sanding or can you let it cure for a few days and sand before heat setting it?
You can either let it cure ambiently (it will full cure with no heat in 2-3 days) or you can force cure it in about 20 minutes. Only after it's cured can you sand.
The painting is really beautiful 🤩
Lol you can tell who actually works with tools and who doesn't in these comments
Everyone has done this
I think the black paint made the socket the right size😂
I'm with you Prestone, what did the paint do
My snap on dealer dosnt care he will warranty it anyways
That was a close one. That thing could have exploded.
It got longer because it’s black now?
Impact rated sockets are black. Chrome sockets are not rated for use in an impact.
@@robertjones7406hmmm
I think Trinco offers a rectangular box that bolts onto the door or opposite wall for long parts such as this. Easy enough to DIY on any cabinet.
@funone8716 Yes, I've seen those! You're right. And it wouldn't be rocket science to just fab one up.
And I don’t even like mustard!!
@@KarenOverstreet-e9t Lol!

Great Job...Excellent...Beautiful Powder Coat...Intricate on detail...Love it...❤❤❤
Thank you! The detail work is always my favorite part of the job.
I have the same cabinet!
TEROSON AL 6302R but I am only finding it Grainger in Canada.
I think it's a Henkel product. You'll have to search for a distributor. Don't think you can buy it outright.
Looks great!👍
So do you seal it then powder coat over the seal? What kind of caulk do you use?
@@dieselwilson9767 Yes, you can apply it to bare metal or a primered surface. The name of the seam sealer is on the tube.
That’s a great idea!
@@Christopherbever I thought so!
what were you putting on the end of the screw driver to help it bite the screw? Great video, very complete restoration. I'll use this video to tackle the restoration of my newly acquired Morgan Chicago 45.
It's valve grinding compound. Used on engines to lap valves so they seat properly. You can get it at any auto parts store for about $5. It's a life saver!!
How does the Cerakote clear stand up to brake cleaners, brake fluid, carb cleaners, etc? If used on automotive apps then it needs to be chemical resistant. Thanks,
The Cerakote clears are very chemical resistant. I've soaked them in acetone and it doesn't touch them. However, I always tell my customers to treat them like any painted part on your car. You may get an inadvertent brake fluid leak now and again, but you'd never spray harsh chemicals directly on the hood of your car.
Your taking that posion in your eyes
👍👌💯🇱🇷💋
Now, that’s the way to restore furniture…!
Wow that's awesome job 👍
Thanks!
You're cracking me up Jeremy! ❤😂
Work isn't fun unless we have a little fun at work! 😉
Love the video! You put quite a bit of work into that chair. Are you willing to share what the final price was to your customer? Also, have you ever coated the fasteners to color match the other parts?
Thanks! Most of the restoration work we do is for folks who have pieces with sentimental value. They are the ones willing to pay for the work required to restore it. We use all stainless steel hardware, so we've never had to coat it. I personally like the look of the unfinished hardware, so that is just what I do.
Fake the chains are stiff like welded together
Woosh
Awwww! You got me!
Zesty
I would have used a plumbers epoxy putty
Nice name!😂
Looks good 👍
So, I’m doing the same thing with new center caps. Curious on what paint remover was used? I was thinking about using finger nail polish remover on a q-tip if possible?
Denatured alcohol was used to remove the yellow airbrush paint before it was cured. I wouldn't recommend nail polish remover as it has acetone in it, which will damage any paint and even the plastic.
Maybe a combination of pocket screws and biscuits.
Could you go just a little bit slower please
That's pretty slick I would have never thought of that 👍
Valve grinding compound is invaluable. Use it for straight slots, phillips and allen heads! I've even used it in a socket on a rounded off bolt head.
