In this format do they just go by the times or does who crosses the line first supersede everything else?
Who crosses the line first. Reaction time is not included in the ET.
Beautiful beasts, great races!
Nice to see so many Buicks👍
I always thought 12 second cars were fast when l street raced...l loved it, now l have a 9 second pinto and the fun dissipated.
In today's world of 12 second Factory Camaros , Mustangs and 392 Challengers , It's amazing how slow these muscles cars really were back then , Most doing the quarter in 14 or 15 seconds with a very few in the 13's or less . Today's muscle 💪 is yesterday's reality "
Brilliant thanks for sharing the genius Jeff Lynne ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
muscle cars were to 60s what smart phones are today. silly toys of distraction. they all basically perform the same. the rest is marketing. the effect is the rich get richer and the sheep go to slaughter
Where are the Boss 429 Mustangs?I see very few fords.
I am very curious how a Boss 429 Mustang would run there.
nice bunch of old school muscle cars that is when cars were sharp and no computerized B S
Haters, this is an actual class of racing. Google the rules before talking trash about stock before commenting.
love this, good job
With some of the times on some of those car, they were not stock.
The little and mighty 340. Also , that Max Wedge with a slow start made up allota ground quickly.
Always liked the max wedge cars best out of them all. Never see them anymore
Love it Thanks for sharing!
coooool
These cars are getting so old that it's probably a stretch to find something that is truly 'stock.' Nevertheless, they are probably about as close as you can get and they are a great measure of how fast modern cars are....and how far automotive engineering has come. I take everything I own to the track eventually. My F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost has a best of 14.50. And my daily bmw 440i's best was 12.99 stock and 12.35 with a safe and mild tune. Great video and production. Edit is spot on. Burnouts and staging games are edited out. Just stage, race, results, next..... Great work
@@Boblib1970 thanks for the feedback. I’ll be back again this year.
Great cars. People forget the classic “muscle” was slower than a modern 4 cylinder grocery getter lol
most grocery getters are just as if not slower. who cares, 60 yrs of tech cars better have improved
So glad I am the age I am. Went to dealerships all the time back then to look at these cars when they were new. Lived nine miles from Yenko Chevrolet
My 67 Chevelle 300 Deluxe 468 ran 10. flat 138 1/4 mile, Now with Blower 700hp Sit in Garage do to Sickness, Sad, owned 30 years,
67 'El, same thing, reason. Been 4 yrs now just kills me. Refuse to let it go...sept it will be 30 yrs for me also . Started my first pool routes out of it when it was a primered heap
I wish The announcer would keep up Before they Leave the Gate, I never hear, what was in the second car.
I wish he would shut up....announce the yr make CI of ea car and nothing else.
Pure stock my ass.
They do a pretty tough inspection...google the rules of pure stock.
Do they ever do a tear down on the motors of some of the faster cars? I had the pleasure of living during the Muscle car age, I NEVER saw a 350 Nova go 11'S stock. Regardless of who put the motor in, Yenko of Nickey, they just were not that fast stock.
The Simpson guys are serious racers. However, I think this same car was running about 13 seconds a few years back. It has a 4.56 rear, and probably has the shift points up at about 6500 rpm. Probably not a highway cruiser.
@@markreilly7052 4.56 gears, a tire, dist. recurve richen the lean emission's tune up some most any car from back then would come alive.
1:15 is an extreamly rare 65 Barracuda S. There is one for sale at GR Auto Gallery in MI. A survivor. Its gold with orig black stripe, V8, 4 brl. 4 speed, factory tach and it has under 2000 miles on it. Check it out.
Duster w the 340 was kikin ass - the red vette was fast too
60s Cuda and that Hornet 360 were impressive for what they were.
If I won the Lotto I'd build a 413 Max Wedge with that massive iron crossplane intakes, 331 or 392 Hemi barracuda, slant 6 Duster, and a 69 Roadrunner with a 440 and 8-71 running on methanol and 100's more cars
I’d have a 71 curious yellow 340 duster,white interior,rally wheels,go wing or…a 70 gtx (or roadrunner) 440 6 barrel n96 air grabber,727 or 4 speed,white interior limelight green
Not picking , but I believe the Max Wedge is 426 cubes.
@@srt8rocketship241 might be lol I like the older crazy stuff
@@dublkrossr2059 hey , the 413 with the long ram manifolds are stuff of legend that still makes appearances from time to time. Check out the Beach Boys song shut you down or Jan and Dean song Little Ol Lady From Pasadena. That's nostalgia.
@@srt8rocketship241 Yeah those long cast iron intakes had to weigh as much as a Prius lol
Man, I dig the muscle car drags, but it looks more like a "run what you brung" event... an ET of 12.40 for a 1967 SS396 Chevelle is two full seconds faster than stock...
L78 screamer car. The 1966 and 1967 cars were a little lighter than later models, but I’d guess there are some legal mods to the vehicle.
...that's a nice 1970 Chevelle SS402
I was in the 10th grade (Howad City/Tri County)on this date. Nice to check into your time machine. Thanks
Could watch this all day! Is this event ever held in So Cal? Didnt know they made a SC hornet 360. Sleepy!
We were in are youth in the 70s and were able to buy these cars cheap and had enough sense to collect many from 55 to70 all makes and models , now they live in are barn..?
This is great you guys will have a lot of fun. We as well watching you. 👍🏻👍🏻
The 69 z28 messed that cuda up
It seems as though the ram air 2 cars are faster than the ram air 3&4 cars
The Ram Air 3 was a rebranded 400 HO. The Ram Air 4 is nearly identical to a RA2. I think the 68 Firebirds had a small weight advantage. There is a 69 GTO in this event with a RA4 that does low 12s.
I have always love the Quarter-Mile Cars of the 60’s and especially the 60’s.My Grand Pa Jim had a 1964 Dodge 440 Cornett 426 Hemi. The quarter mile stats were 11.6 seconds 126 miles an hour. Grandpa Jim only lost one race and that was another 1964 Dodge 440 Cornett 426 Hemi except this car had some work done because Grandpa Jim could see him pulling away with his front wheels off the ground at first.Well there might be two or three cars that would be quicker than Grandpa Jims car but Grandpa Jims quarter mile car would be worth a lot more than any stock car today !
Just saw this video, best camera work yet.
1:16 Rippin!
I think this video was take behind my left shoulder! Lol!
Good concert, special at times, but could have been better if, in my opinion, they had done fewer of his songs at the beginning and cut the solos and left time for more genesis. Most artists like him do tend to want to play their own post band songs, but it’s kind of a disservice to the audience. The second to last song of the first set had everybody jamming, but then he ruined it and wasted time with some weird song at the end of the set that no one seemed to enjoy. He replicated this error, again in my opinion with a relatively obscure low energy song at the end of the encores, time which could have been used on a better song. was a concert with extreme highs and many unnecessary lows. I’ll give it a high B+.just my two cents.
I thought the last song of the first set was great, as was most of the first set.
@@markreilly7052 yes, There would undoubtedly be like REAL hacket fans who would like it all, maybe some who actually followed his post band career, as well as some people who actually KNOW music, or play instruments, and a few others I’d say, but for many I suspect, they would have preferred him just to split the first set between Nursery Cryme, and selling England. I appreciate your point of view, and am happy for those who were able to enjoy all of it, if I had known all of those other songs, I probably would have been in 7th Heaven! 😆
It was an amazing concert.
Those old cars ran damn good for no electronics, computers and just all carburetion and the weight they were pulling.
Plus simple 3 spd autos no benefit from 6, 8 ,10 spd trans wiht crazy low 4.xx first gears Love to see what a hellcat would do with a 727 auto and 3.23 gears
22:30 Ain't a 69 GTO.
The announcer did make a mistake there.
Why are so many of these stock cars so much faster than the same model stock cars that are running if in fact they are all stock?
No way are they "Pure Stock". That 340 Duster ran 2 seconds faster than they did back then. At 3200 lbs +. . .no way it's factory stock. Maybe the title should have read "Close To Stock". But it sure was a fun video to watch!
@@troygoetz5517 Just found they are allowed bolt ons like headers, and intake mods.
If you read up on the rules youll see what is allowed. Its not much but sure helps.
What classifies as pure stock?
There are some modifications allowed. www.psmcdr.com/rules
This announcer is to slow about describing the cars when they pull up and then starts telling about them after they took off and you can’t hear.
Anybody driving a 67 Marina Blue Chevelle 396? Bought it new, just trying to find it. Thanks
If you have the VIN number, you might be able to find information online.
At the start showing all the cars I got a bit nostalgic, then I kicked my own @ss for selling my '69 Z/28 in 1977. D@mn! I miss that car.
Yep...wish I would have kept some of my old vehicles like my 67 Ford F100 stepside 6' Bed with a 352 and 4:11 rr, or my 69' 383 Road Runner. But my current car in a 17' Super Sport Camaro with a 6 speed manual so it takes away the pain.😁
I sold the 67 Firebird I built to a brother-in-law cheap before I left town. Never should've done that. It started out an inline six and ended with a built 350 from a 72 Ventura. 12.5:1 compression, TRW domed pistons, roller rockers, 513 lift cam, 750 Holley double pumper, headers, TH400 built for the track, 4.10 posi rear.y buddy totalled his Ventura that he just put $1500 worth of parts into the motor. I stopped at his shop and saw the motor on the floor. He said it would be great in my Firebird (running a Chevy 327 at the time with T-10 4-speed) so he let me have it for $200. Really, and I only paid $100 for the car from a guy who won it in a poker game. Paid $150 for the trans (my mom"s next door neighbor owned a speed shop), forget what i paid for the rear and headers. And I added a floor for console to cover the hole in the floor. All used parts except for the parts the motor. Really should not have sold that car.
That was the one car I never got to own! Had every version of 67 and 69s other than the Z. Even a 70 Z
@@davidscott1619 70s and even in the 80s you could mod cars that cheap. Junkyards were full of these cars with all the good stuff under the hoods. I remember seeing nicer cars in the junkards than flippers on CL sell today ie these rusty patina pos.
The SD 455 trans am is one fast car
Rules allow a bump in compression ratio of 1.5. This really wakes up the low compression 73-74 SD motors and shows what beasts they would have been pre-1971.
So who won?
Fantastic, a reality show, great to see what they really ran...ish LOL. I have had a 12.80s '68 Roadrunner here in the UK 40 years, life thing for me, cheers
...chicks love cowl induction when you goose it...
