Bunnahabhain 12yr Scotch Whisky Review (Ep. 150)
Просмотров 118Год назад
We review Bunnahabhain 12 yr Scotch Whisky. It is a unpeated whisky which still has some peat in it ( 2ppm-3ppm) but not the usual higher levels 40ppm seen in most Islay Scotches. Is this the one Nick will fall in love with and break his dislike of Islay Scotch?

Litchfield Distillery Double Barrel Bourbon 8 yr. Whiskey Review (Ep. 129)
I stumbled into this at a bus stop and the funny bottle immediately caught my attention. I love Irish cream style beverages and had a hint I'd like this. It's kinda like a Carolans tasting liqueur, and no cream. I like it with ice.
I don't think this is one that anyone goes out to get intentionally unless you have tried it before and need a new bottle. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!!
Damn it. This is the year I vow to stop drinking alcohol, and I picked up a bottle of this on a whim yesterday. I should have checked the reviews first. Well, I'll give it a try just to see if I get the same reaction, but I'm afraid I just wasted 30 bucks at this point.
Give it a try and let us know your thoughts on it. Was not a big hit with us. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers.
Im having a Cherry 🍒 bourbon now, and man im sold!
@@lesheadley3999 Cheers, enjoy!!! Thanks for watching and commenting.
watching these whiskey/bourbon channels is really funny... it is almost always 2 guys in some basement "bar", they talk about "chocolate and peppermint... leather and smoke... " and swish the sip around like they are using mouthwash... typically surrounded by hundreds of bottles 2/3 full on their back wall.... it is really funny!
@pesto12601 you have pretty much nailed it. It is really finding a channel where the host/hosts have a similar taste profile to your own. So you will then know if a bottle is worth your money to grab. If not it is always a crap shoot if you will like it or not. Cheers!
@@keepingitneat Yes.. I think this is actually exactly it! Thx for the reply and keep on sipping!
Heading towards a year since your last video. Where did you guys go?
Unfortunately life got in the way. Had some medical issues effect us and channel got put on backburner. Thanks for checking in on us. Cheers!
@@keepingitneat Sorry to hear. I hope things have improved. Perhaps you'll be posting again soon! (if not, best wishes to you).
Yeah I’d check in on these guys every now and then. Good channel for sure, unbiased good reviewers
I put this in my whipped cream last thanksgiving, it was a hit. Gotta find it again for this year’s pies
That’s a great use for it! It’s definitely a versatile whiskey.
Compared to Beam, Evan Williams, Crown, and Old Smokey the Bird Dog is awesome. Great whiskey background flavor.
Halepeno Honey
I drink black velvet with red Bull
Can't hurt this whiskey!
I took a shot of this with a Red Bull chaser
First, I take a shot of the black velvet and a Red Bull chaser and after that two or three mixed drinks
@Tyler-h7p well by chasing with Redbull you added flavor to this whiskey atleast. Sadly this one was lackluster for us on many levels. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!
Great review! And I agree. If your interested here’s my take with a couple of uniques mixes: Jack Daniels Fire for Bourbon Lovers Mixed Drinks Review ruclips.net/video/7Vdwv6hsZEA/видео.html
🥃🥃🥃
Your description of how it smells like a birthday cake 😄I GOTTA try it. Great looking label as well.
It's so good!
Late to the party here, but choosing Cleveland Whiskey to represent Ohio is criminal, lol! Cheers buddy!
Don't be a hater Jay! Lol, Cheers bud!
So I'm wondering if that was MGP because they just opened in 2014? I just bought a 6 yr dbl barrell they just came out with (my bottle is from Batch #1). Made from all CT grains. It's pretty darn good, I bet it's only going to get better too. So happy I live in CT!
@leifd731 considering time frame when it was purchased this one was MGP. The 6yr is their own make. It is a great bourbon and worth the pickup. Cheers!
He had yo work in nj. Next.
Bought a bottle for $74 in Tokyo last September 👍
Ha if I had watched this review, I wouldn't have bought it. Buttery Popcorn as a drink?? (gag).. I actually have a bottle that I bought based on a recommendation. I think the flavor profile hits on caramel and butterscotch. Good, sweet, but good.
Great wit coffee
Black Velvet Reserve has since GAINED an extra two years of age for a total of ten. It must be the only whisky whose age statement was increased in the 2020s for the purpose of easing an inventory glut, and has by far the highest age-to-price ratio of any spirit sold in North America. In my opinion the extra seven years erases the raw alcohol spiritiness and sour lemon note in the basic Black Velvet, but replaces it with a new prominent bitter aftertaste that lingers on the finish for too long and is also unpleasant - when drank neat. On ice it's MUCH better, and it also works well for mixing. I've never had a whisky that improved this much chilled before, and may well buy it again to drink at the height of summer when I'm not often in the mood for 100+ proof bourbon at room temperature.
I don't understand how that is technically bourbon. Cherry liqueur was added. I would think it should be called flavored whiskey like Fireball . I will have to Google to have a better understanding. "If it ain't Kentucky, it ain't bourbon".
You are correct. Once they added the cherry liquer it is no longer bourbon. It is now a flavored whiskey. Bottle says it is Kentucky Bourbon blended with cherry liquer. With the cherry added and the proof below 80 it is a flavored whiskey. Tasty, great with Coke, but a flavored whiskey. Thanks for watching and commenting cheers.
I would mix that with Pepsi. When I was younger I liked Coke.
Wish I could find this for that price.
The prices for this has gone up considerably since we recorded. Hope you can find one for a decent price. Thanks for commenting and watching. Cheers!
Received my bottle from Seelbachs quarterly pick.... not happy. I need to try it again. Its been 3 months.
This was a lackluster bottle and we would give this one a hard pass. The Winter Wheat they produce however is actually worth a try. Cheers, thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice to see you are still studying Astrophysics!
Always try to keep up on my science my friend. This was the science of bourbon and beer!! Lol!!! Cheers my friend!
My favorite.
It is a good one. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!
No good viewing here in Great Smoky Mountains - East Tennessee, but about the time it would have hit, if this far east, I'll be having a Evan Williams 100 on the rocks! Wherever y'all are - wear eye protection and enjoy your sipping choices. CHEERS guys!
I think a corner of Tennessee is in path but western part of the state and only a sliver. I will be viewing from work when it starts in Massachusetts but we wont be getting the full eclipse either. Cheers my friend!!!
Hi guys! Missed Y'all! WOW, this is some cocktail!
This one so good!! If you can't find Tajin it is still really good with just the lime wheel. Cheers my friend.
I think I gots me a little Tajín somewhere in my house 😂. Awesome drink talk about the perfect occasion 🤙
It's the perfect cocktail to bring in the event. Cheers bud!!
What the hell's wrong Evan Williams? Evan Williams Honey is the only thing I've been drinking for the last several years. This new version with the orange label on the bottom sucks. The woman in the liquor store warned me that it wasn't the same recipe, and that people had been complaining about it. I purchased a half gallon anyway. It sucks. It's like being a Pepsi lover and discovering the last bottle of Pepsi you bought tastes like Coke, and is totally flat. No one will be buying this after they taste it. I hope they are saving plenty in production. And I hope it's enough to make putting one of the nicest flavored bourbons down the drain, which is just where this half gallon is going.
Hmm, how many reviews did you do before this one? 🤔😆
They had this as a tasting stall at Costco and I immediately bought some. I normally dont like liqueurs of anything (at least straight up), but this was gorgeous! It's VERY drinkable in any form, and while I hate single malt with ice (come on people, just nope), this with a huge super hard/clear cube it quite amazing. But this is one of the most flexible whisky drinks out there, it goes with just about anything you can make in a glass.
This one was a treat for us and we enjoyed it. So many cocktail options and just over ice makes it a simple easy sipper. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!
I drink a lot of this stuff. Straight is great but if you go 2 parts Shanky's and 4 parts Coke - it's dangerously good. Mixed it with Rumchata as well and just can't go wrong with it.
We will need to try this. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Cheers!
These guys are clueless. Fireball candies used to come up in little strings of rappers way back in the 1950s. Fireball whiskey came out in 1984. And they’re talking like 2012. no I suppose if you were born in 1989 you might not have discovered fireball candy until 2012. But you have no sense of history.
We were speaking of fireball whiskey and when it came out but yes the Fireball candies have been around forever and that wasn't called into question. We were trying to figure out when Fireball whiskey came out and comparing the similarities to the candy. Yes the whiskey was first made in 1984. I am glad you find Firball complex for you. If sickeningly sweet is what you find complex then I am sure it is just like you, multilayered, complex and a person grounded in the realm of amazing whiskey knowledge. Cheers!
@@keepingitneat I don’t have any pretense of in-depth whiskey knowledge. Which is part of the point most people cannot identify their own favorite beer in a taste test, I doubt I could identify any of the top 20 selling whiskeys from one another. Until I got to Fireball and I will always know Fireball . Whether it’s because its syrupy or overly sweet. Or because it is as I say, fierce, and complex with multiple flavors overtones. Most whiskey to me. He is generic unless it’s like a really good aged celtic whiskey like a Glenn Fitdditch. But fireball taste like nothing else and everyone else that tries to make a cinnamon whiskey is a pretender. Fireball doesn’t make any pretense of being gourmet. It just says it taste like heaven, and it burns like hell . If you like that, great, because it’s cheap and it is the Coca-Cola of cinnamon whiskey. It is the grandfather and still the best. There are no other cinnamon whiskeys in the top 20 whiskeys. I even like that probably most people don’t take it seriously. Because to me, it is the most fun of all whiskeys it’s not a serious whiskey for refined tastes.
@robinmcdonald You are correct palate is everything and for some this hits the spots some people enjoy. Brings back some nostalgia while sipping but I agree not refined in the least. Everyone likes what they like and palates vary as much as brands of whiskey. Keep sipping and enjoy. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!
Fireball came out in 1984, which is probably before the guy with the beard was born.
You can put anything up against fireball and I have tried Jack Daniels. But fireball is the Coca-Cola. it will not be unseated.. Fireball is complex with multiple exciting tasty notes. Fireball is dynamic Jack Daniels is not.
But in addition to fireball being the Coca-Cola whiskeys, it’s dirt cheap. . Now I’ve tried an even cheaper whiskey at total wines that’s very good but it’s not fireball either. It’s Pepsi. It’s a cinnamon whiskey, but it’s not Fireball. Everyone else is a pretender.. no other whiskey, like it hits on so many levels so powerfully. Fireball is not just cinnamon whiskey like the others. Fireball is fireball.. if you want cinnamon whiskey. If you want to feel sophisticated. Go by Jack Daniels, Tennessee fire. Or buy something cheaper if you’re into cheap. And you’ll get an expensive or a cheap cinnamon whiskey. But you will not be getting Fireball. Everyone else is a pretender to the success of fireball. And Tennessee fire is not catching on. Where I live, you can buy fireball out of a bucket at 7-Eleven. fireball is the king and long live the king.
No hate. But you need to learn this to be knowledgeable. Reading cue cards while giving your opinion on something seems redundant. Make it less obvious maybe I understand some people aren’t good with words and that might be the case. Either way nothing but love ! Keep at it !
Thank you! It is a appreciated. Cheers!!
What about honey an d fire
Cheers!! That would work too! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Fun video I enjoyed the banter. Cheers my friends.
The Jack Daniel's Apple mixed with Manzanita Sol Apple Soda is amazing!!!!!!!! It's addictive like Jack & Coke. ;)
We have never heard Manzanita Sol Apple soda! Don't know where you live if it is a regional item. We will keep an eye out for it as it sounds like it would be a delicious mixer. Thank you for watching and commenting. Cheers!
@@keepingitneatit’s a great mixer use it all the time down here in AZ. It’s mainly a Mexican off brand side but it delicious 😂. I think Walmart can order it if you go online!
I agree with you on the citrus and floral notes. Had this at my buddy Luke’s house a couple of years ago. My youngest daughter lives in Ireland 🇮🇪 and we have been to the town this is made in. You guys know the name…..
Awesome review gents! I love the EW Honey too, but i like the old bottle that y'all review. The new bottle tastes nothing like honey and ALL like vanilla. Review the new bottle, which has a paper label and not a clear label and tell me what u think. I am pissed!
Thank you so much. We did this one a while ago as you can see by the bottle. I love the idea of reviewing the new bottle and maybe do a comparison to old batch which I do believe we still have some left. Thank you for watching and commenting. Cheers!
OMG - At first I thought your cell pronounced it Colonic-in-your-Kilt-ee! LOL! Just in time for St. Paddy's Day - GREAT review, looks like a yes!
Lol!! We were unsure first time we heard it to. This one is a YES for sure. It is a older release and don't know how big a distribution it had. If you do find it grab it!!! Cheers my friend.
@@keepingitneat Cheers Fellas!
Personally I like it, it's sweet and smooth, pairs well with mixers like cherry pepsi. I enjoy the toasted caramel black velvet and mixing that with regal apple crown royal, ginger ale, and lime juice for a very nice caramel apple flavor
Thank you for watching and commenting. We are glad you enjoy this one. It didn't hit it for us, but for many, it has a big appeal. The Toasted Caramel mixer you mentioned sounds very good, and we will need to mix one up and try it. Cheers!
The NH liquor stores have it. Just picked up a bottle to try.
Awesome!! Let us know your thoughts after you have tried it. Thanks for commenting and watching. Cheers!
Ooh can’t wait
Lol cracking up the whole video. I’m with Derek on this one. An easy sipper when it comes to Islay scotches. 👍👍🥃
I agree Antonio, this one is a light Islay and super approachable. It is a non peated, but there is a hint in it. Nick has a aversion to any hint of peat in the whisky, so that's all he gets. But he is a trooper for pushing through every time we review one. But his scores do not get higher. Lol!!! Cheers bud!
😂 yous guys are too much
Wow; I missed this levity. And the name? Who cares, a rose by any other name will smell as sweet. The nose and taste descriptions are terrific as is the disparity in voting. Much fun guys - Happy New Year!
Cheers my friend! Happy New Year!
@@keepingitneat CHEERS Guys!
I only started watching this to see how you would pronounce "Bunnahabhain" but then I saw you cheated! Ha, I do the same. Hope you guys have a great 2024.
Lol!!! If your not cheating your not trying. Cheers bud Happy 2024!!!
