    I have same floorplan (22RL) Rear Lounge. I removed the silly table and built another bed like the drivers side. Of course that silly table hides the propane tank and compartment, so I had to modify that and use a smaller tank. Mine had 'hidden' rot in front bunk area(likely front window leaking) but not as serious as yours. Your video inspired me to replace rotten wood myself. Now I'm re-sealing front window(thanks for the tip) Liking your progress and tenacity!

    I have a 1999 LD rear bath and discovered there is dry rot around the rear window. I'm hoping that my repairs won't be as extensive as your. Good job and cheers.

    Hey Ken, thank you so much for documenting this. You’re doing a bang up job so far. Can’t wait to see the end result! We have an ‘01 MB that needs a bit of back wall mold repair. In the inside rear driver side corner. These videos should be very helpful as I don’t really know what the layout is and while we are willing and somewhat able, but aren’t very experienced. We love our old LD, and it will be fun to revamp it a bit.

    Great Video! I drove these at NJ Transit in New Jersey back in the 70s. These 4106s were like little rockets, and very scary on wet slippery surfaces. Back in the day they had recaps and regular ply tires; no radials. If you didn’t respect the vehicle, you could end up in a ditch! These were no joke. The engine is very powerful for these short 35 footers! The 8V-71s were suitable for 40 footers more less G.M. Deck and a Half’s and Fishbowl’s. I would dread being assigned one of these in incliment weather.

    Kenny, I’m at this stage on my ‘88 22ft LD. Did you replace all of the wood in cabover ? Is there any structural wood I should NOT rip out?

    • @kenzimmerman7064
      @kenzimmerman7064 Год назад

      Hi there. Okay, I just made all my other videos public (with the exception of my last one with the interior paint and carpet). I believe you could take everything out, but I highly doubt everything in the cabover is rotted. And I couldn't fathom the work necessary to do all that. Good luck and I hope these videos are helpful for you.

      @@kenzimmerman7064 Thanks for reply..Im only replacing the 'planks' that run front-to-rear at the outer edge against the vertical walls. I've cut the staples that attach them at rear, but dont want to pry too much on the aluminum 'floor' Are they attached to the studs inside the vertical wall?

    I see yours has the sliding windows at rear. That's what caused the leakage it appears. Mine has stationary windows there, and even though it's the same age, there's no leaks there. Im going to remove and re-seal front over-cab window. How do they come out?

    • @kenzimmerman7064
      @kenzimmerman7064 Год назад

      They come out pretty easy. Unscrew the inner trim and then a putty knife to start prying the window out.

    Love those old buses. I travelled many years and many miles in a 1960 4104 entertainer bus. That thing was bulletproof. That one had a 6 v 71 as I recall. I think this one had a stronger engine. But in any case that 6v71 was plenty. Be nice to have one of those brand new. That would be something.

    • @kenzimmerman7064
      @kenzimmerman7064 Год назад

      Yes, this one had the 8v71 so it is basically the same engine with 2 more cylinders. But I've heard the 6v71 is the most reliable of them all. This was my first bus and was very impressed how solid these are! No leaks after decades, can cruise 80mph with no issues, 9-10mpg (manual transmission) no matter how much stuff you have loaded onboard. However, finding a qualified person to work on it was always a challenge. I had to drive over the mountains 2.5 hours away for someone knowledgeable.

      I certainly couldn't have done it alone. I'm working with someone much more experienced than myself. I would have been stuck at certain places. But if you find a good handyman and do whatever else you can yourself, you can save a lot of money and learn a lot, too.

    Love your videos. I know LD used expoxy to attach some caps, and cover trim. Did you have to deal with this, and if so, what tips and tricks do you have to remove them? I'm about to start what you are into.

    • @kenzimmerman7064
      @kenzimmerman7064 Год назад

      It appears on the older ones like mine, they used screws to attach them. I noticed the newer ones are a solid cap that obviously is secured with an adhesive. So mine were easy to remove. It appears there was butyl tape underneath when I pulled them off. When I reattached I also used butyl tape underneath (where the screw holes are) to prevent water intrusion through the screws. That was a pain to line up the screw holes after that, however. With the newer solid caps, I wonder if a multi-tool would work well to remove them.

    I don't recall you saying why you're selling it I'm just curious you had it for 3 years are you getting another old bus or just getting out of it all together. I was thinking of buying a 1975 PD 4905 but I live up in Canada and trying to get parts for it it's a lot more difficult, pretty much have to order everything from the USA then I get into duty the dollar exchange rate.

      Hi Derek, this video was originally attached to a for sale ad with more information. So unfortunately, there are some things I wish I included in the video for after when the ad got pulled. I loooved this bus! But I live in Reno, NV and the closest bus-knowledgeable mechanic was 2.5 hours away in Sacramento, CA. (although I was starting to get competent on the smaller repairs I still had little room to work with). My wife didn't really want to learn to drive it. There is a large learning curve to the Spicer transmission and she's also not very skilled at driving long and heavy vehicles. Learning both at the same time would be challenging indeed. The final hurdle was my neighbor across the street finally got a sprinkler system. In order to get the bus into our side yard, we had to run over a bit of grass. She was okay until the system was installed and then she worried we'd break pipes. But honestly, I think she was just tired of us doing that and we certainly didn't want to be bad neighbors. So now it looks like we have to downsize at least 10ft and automatic. I miss the bus already!!!!

    Rev to the governor not limiter... 4-speed crash box easy...drove a million of em! Or once out of first gear you can float em without the clutch.

    • @kenzimmerman7064
      @kenzimmerman7064 3 года назад

      Yes, governor, not limiter. You are right, my jargon was off, but you knew what I meant. ;-) Right after the double clutch demonstration, I demonstrated like you said, not using the clutch. I prefer to shift that way, too.
