I used to think of people who thinks of suicide of even did it are in a state wayy far from my comprehension and understanding. After 35 I started to see why those people chose what they chose and understands their decisions,,, now I’m reaching 40s and probably lost all what I use to “want” and almost forgot what were they are; I started to see that those people probably did what’s right for them and made the only option available… Now I’m afraid of what I will believe next.

Doug's character was one of the best characters in a show I've seen. So memorable. Such talent.

A few years ago a friend called. We kept in touch via social media, but he moved away and we hadn't spoken in years. It was Sunday and I was watching football, so I call screened it to voicemail. The next day his brother posted on Facebook that he had taken his life. So, I listened to the message. It rambled a bit, but one thing was clear... he was calling to say goodbye. His brother assured me that a couple of other people had gotten a similar call and that there was nothing I could have said or done to stop it. The help he needed was years before, but when the call comes it's just to say "goodbye".

I've dealt with depression most of my life but thankfully I've always had a reason not to give up. Life is still a blessing. Enjoy it while you can. On a side note if I was ever in this dark a place I wld never tell anyone I'd just end it.

RIP Robin, funny joke at the end, Doug. But RIP Robin, True Legend.

It will always baffle me that Doug Stanhope isnt a household name. He's absolutely one of the best damn comedians to ever live

For him to act out a situation that is a huge no no in hollywood this good is really impressive. There literally no example how to do it, and he isn't even an actor.

I've seen this episode countless times and absolutely love it. Think about Robbin Williams and also Anthony Bourdain a lot. What I don't like about his episode are two things: - why did he make Eddie's character a "loser". He could have been a successful comedian battling depression. - Louie in the episode says he "worked hard" to find his purpose in life. But he didn't. He just had kids, and he is just lucky he doesn't have any clinical disposition for depression. That's it. That's not "working hard", that's just luck.

It's simplicity, empathy and neutral stance to me is what makes it so profound. Honestly one of my favorite things in movies or television.

Life can sucks but I will like to stay till the end of the movie, maybe it's a shity movie but I know I'll have some good moments, some laughs, that's why we do comedy right? Stay for the comedy 🙏

Doug was great in that episode. He should act more.

If you read the street sign, it says one way. Once you make that decision, there's no coming back from that. One way trip. This also pays homage to Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas who did something similar during the Karen getting a coat from Jimmy scene.

I can (maybe) forgive the 'Cancel Culture' kiddies for a lot of their BS, but I will NEVER forgive them for taking Louie--the single best TV show in decades--off. This was, indeed, a remarkable episode, and both Doug's performance & Louie's incredible writing were over the top great...

I don’t want to do this anymore. I’m just tired of playing the game.

This was probably my favorite episode of Louie, and what really carries this dialogue is the very ending where the wry smile turns into genuine disappointment of self. Doug hit that transition perfectly.

Doug’s mother took her own life, with his assistance mind you.. I’d say he is at a very real risk for suicide.

Seeing doug on Louie was so cool in the first place. Then he smashes it outta the park with this scene. I wanted to shit in my own mouth it was so good

You quickly come to the conclusion that nothing changes. Especially if you don't have the introspection or were born into nothing parents with no real financial backing or skills. Once you start noticing that you will change nothing or become another bug on the windshield its so much easier to decide to step out.

I’ve never seen louie before. Just heard it’s a sitcom. But jesus… that’s insanely deep and powerful. Is the rest of the show close to that or is it just doug being doug?

The true genius of this dialogue is at 3:41. If you watch the series, you understand Louie himself deals with suicidal thoughts constantly, and only admits it to those of which he deems close and important. Here we have Eddie, who acknowledges he only knows Louie to the degree of old friends and admits his want of suicide which disturbs Louie. However, Louie is confronted with Eddie, who seems to be a chaotic counterpart to his personal inner turmoil. Eddie is comfortable expressing himself because he does not need to cloak these feelings like Louie. Louie has children, dear friends, family, and understands that his loss of life would indeed have an impact. Despite the struggles that are prevalent in having those challenges in life, we as a viewer and the character himself ( Louie ) recognize these issues as chosen adversity and worthy of a prosperous life. This is combated by Eddie who " has no bridges left " and confides to him without any of those factors playing a part in his life. Alike in their professions and disdain for life, they are still entirely different people. Louie at first plays to his good nature as one does. He is an empathetic and reasonable person who of course is distraught at the thought of Eddie wanting to commit suicide. He is alienated from the idea until in one moment, one stroke of personal reflection, he is stuttered. It is this moment. He truly looks his friend in the eyes and with what could be perhaps observed as personal guilt, he lashes out with a rather infantile remark.... " BECAUSE ! " In this moment Louie truly is frustrated. He is looking at the worst part of himself. But Louie is steadfast, and defends his point. An extremely human moment in this comedy.
