One of you gave me the idea to paint the inside of my camera with black chalkboard paint to get rid of the reflections happening in the camera. I tried this in this video and tested it on a very beautiful october morning.

It is also a good idea to use a lens shade. Large-format lenses are usually constructed with large image circles to allow for movements. On the flipside that means that the sun can shine straight into your camera even if it is out of frame. And the best way to avoid light bouncing around inside your camera is to not let it get there in the first place. Nice camera by the way!

I designed a similar viewfinder, the design specifications are as follows: Front Element is plano-concave lens - diameter 50mm, focal length minus 100 Rear Element is plano convex lens - diameter 25mm, focal length 125 Distance between lens elements 25mm, yields a magnification of 0.8. You want to design a simple housing to hold the two elements 25mm apart, and that allows a retaining rim to be screwed onto the front element, behind which lens masks may be fitted to approximate the view with the various lens options. Of course, you need a cone for each lens option as well. Mask sizes for the above lens combination are as follows: A 75mm lens mask to cover the front element needs to be 50mm diameter with a 45.3mm wide by 16mm high aperture. A 90mm lens mask to cover the front element needs to be 50mm diameter with a 37.7mm wide x 13.3 mm high aperture. A 105mm lens mask to cover the front element needs to be 50mm diameter with a 32.4mm wide x 11.4mm high aperture. A 150mm lens mask to cover the front element needs to be 50mm diameter with a 22.7mm wide x 8mm high aperture. A 210mm lens mask to cover the front element needs to be 50mm diameter with a 16.2mm wide x 5.7mm high aperture. NOTE: A 50mm front element size will be able to accommodate masks for lenses down to 72mm focal lengths. If you want to cover 65mm focal length you’d need a 55mm diameter lens with minus 100 focal length.

Hi there I have built 3 panoramic cameras two 6X12 and one 6X17 I use flocked paper in black, inside the cameras to stop reflections and it seems to work fine it has a sticky back. What I do is make a template then cut the flocked paper and then stick it into the inside of the camera. The paper was purchased from Amazon and is quiet inexpensive. As another member said the light leak is in the bottom of the camera probably in the back, another trick i use is putting wool (what is used for knitting) around the inside of the back where it would seal with the body the wool comes in different thicknesses I use the thick kind because it will compress when the back is attached hope this has been of some help Kevin

Found your channel today, and definitely subscribing. The first thing that struck me is the film loading is reminiscent of some Leicas. I can see that design makes it susceptible to light leak along the bottom of film (top of image). I hope that it’s easy enough to effectively seal that - I’ve never worked with 3d printed material but I hope that there’s a suitable bonding agent, and the tolerances of the body allow an easy seal - rather than having to resort to electrician’s tape each roll…. I’d be really interested to hear your opinion on how well you can calibrate the lens/helicoid/film plane to “infinity”, but regardless of my preconceived ideas of what I want, I’m looking forward to enjoying your adventures. Best wishes from Australia

Thanks for your sub and comment! :-) There will be a new video soon about the 617 and let's say I think the problem was just me handling the film badly in the first video or it's really the filmcounter hole in the back... Worked better than I thought :-) I used a digital camera for infinity calibration, Malefic (a producer of 617 cameras) has a blogpost about that.

Thank you so much for the kind words! Tromsø is a really beautiful place and the cold isn't too bad with the right clothes. I can't wait to go again in summer or autumn!

Cinestill when expired has those problems. And the film has to be developed as soon as you after post exposure. There seems to be some degradation going on in the emulsion. My opinion, for the price of cinestill, Portra seems to be the reliable and best choice. Your images with Portra have a pleasing tone and quality about them. No wonder some only use Portra 160 and 400 when travelling. Wonderful video and images. May I ask what lens you used ?

Thank you for the feedback and your comment 🤗 Thats exactly what my friends from the lab told me. Unfortunately, I didn't check the Expiring Date of the rolls when packing them, but they were not that old 🤔 Anyway, I love the 400D, but I'think I'll not buy the 800T again. The photos in the video were shot with a Voigtländer Nokton 35mm 1.4 and a Leica Elmarit 135mm (The one with the goggles). I'm glad you enjoyed it!
