Why I Can't Stop Thinking About This Classic

Why I Can't Stop Thinking About This Classic
Here’s some ideas I have for Disney: A Twisted Tale; 1. I Miss Home: What if Riley didn’t move to San Francisco? (Based on Inside Out) 2. At All Costs: What if Asha became King Magnifico’s apprentice? (Based on Wish) 3. Remember Me: What if Miguel didn’t return to the Land of the Living in time? (Based on Coco) 4. Sailing No More: What if Buzz never found out he was a toy? (Based on Toy Story) 5. Immortals: What if Hiro joined Yokai? (Based on Big Hero 6) 6. We Don’t Talk About Bruno: What if Mirabel didn’t return from Bruno’s room? (Based on Encanto) 7. Son of Man: What if Tarzan’s parents never died? (Based on Tarzan) What do you think? If you have some more, feel free to leave any suggestions!
Good for you for giving the book a shot considering it’s outside of your normal reading space - sounds pretty good!
@@charlie-read-a-book i think it was executed very well, I just didn't enjoy it that much!!
Great review. I haven't read any self published books. This was interesting. 😊
Thanks for the comment Neda. I think this was designed for Kindle Unlimited, and if you get that then self-pub is far more common to see.
I've never read a self-pub book. Interesting to note though that classics back in the day would be serialised in literary journals. In fact the read-along I'm going this year of Anna Karenina is being run on the same timeline as the original was published in a Russian journal.
@@CamsCampbellReads one of my favourite stories Legend of the Condor Heroes was published in a magazine. Dickens was serialised. Sherlock Holmes was in The Strand magazine. It was how a lot of literature was published. Something I meant to say was that Kindle Unlimited means that a reader can just click the next one without thinking. This book was designed fot that audience I think
I really want to up my game when it comes to reading self published books. May not pick this one up, but I do appreciate you giving it your time and an honest review.
@@charlie-read-a-book Thanks for the comment Charlie. Something I meant to say was that if you were on Kindle Unlimited, you could just click the next one and keep going. It would be very easy to binge it.
Great list of books. It sounds like you had a wonderful year of reading. 😊
It was a great year of reading. Thanks for the comment Neda!
Great list! Is it possible in the future to hold up or include images of the covers of the book as you speak of them? I sometimes miss the names of books when doing things and without an image there I have to go back constantly to see if I can find where the title was mentioned. Thank you for a great list love your channel, and can't wait till you do the list of the books read to your kids.
@@PumpkinFinch i usually do but I lost the will to live whilst editing! I'll add the list to the description. Thanks for the comment!
Love the diversity in this top 10!
@@SenneBBB Thanks Senne! I enjoy reading a variety of stuff and I'm glad that came through.
Strange & Norrell was so unbelievably good!
It really is! I want to read Piranesi as well as people say that is great
@@timburbagereads It was excellent! Both books were on my best of 2024.
Adult books, eh? 🍿🍿🍿🤣🤣
What a turn of phrase 🤦♂️
MOM NEW TIM JUST DROPPED
HOW ARE YOU ALREADY HERE! 😂😂
Storm of swords was a masterpiece!
It was soooooo good!
Hope you enjoy bookshops and bonedust! I had a blast with it
Yeah I'm looking forward to it! I didn't realise it was set so long before Legends & Lattes
Such a cool challenge!
@@ScorpionLibrarian thank you so much! What's your favourite disney film?
The hunchback of Norte Dame has become my favourite Disney movie, and then Lola and stitch!
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) A book with a character with a disability A book with a clock on the cover Advanced: A book written by an author with a disability
R said she wants books related to Beauty & the Beast & you get our of our house 🤣
@@LianneBurbage Beauty and the Beast (1991) An enemies to lovers book A book about books Advanced: A book with a character trapped in a house
Ooh, i really love this idea and this challenge. I might try to do it next year (as i'm already overbooked this year), but it sounds fun! When i was a kid, my two favorites were Pinokkio and Cinderella. Right now picking a favorite is hard, but i keep rewatching Encanto or listening to the songs, so i guess that one?
This challenge came from 2024 so I'm doing it late. Encanto (2021) A book written by a Latinx author A book where a house has powers Advanced: A book translated from Spanish
Cool Challenge. When I 3 to 5 years old my favourite Disney Movies were Cinderella and Little Mermaid. Then I discovered The Sound of Music. And then the Lion King. 😊
@@BasicallyNeda The Lion King (1994) A book set in Africa A book with a character who has a prominent scar Advanced: A book with an evil uncle
@@timburbagereads Thanks, Maybe I'll try it for next month☺
I saw the RUclips shorts before the book was written. It's a great study in both similarities and contrasts to have seen them both.
@@maigretus1 she just posted a video on salea. She has done super well!!
Sounds interesting, might look into this one. Great review as always
It was a good old fashioned adventure
I’d actually never heard of this until you mentioned it in your videos - you really sell it here. This goes to the TBR.
It is very famous in Britain. I really hope you read it and enjoy it Charlie. Something that I wanted to say (but got distracted) in that I think it was really brave for Malorie Blackman to make the black community historically and socially dominant and "the bad guys".
Its not a hardback, its a knocky book+
@@LianneBurbage 100% correct my apologies
I love that you’re splitting up the year in thirds. I haven’t heard of anyone doing that. I love your goals!! Good luck with them all!!
@@Maeve_Ever_Books thank you! I did Monthly goals last year and it was a bit much so lets see how this year goes
Nice TBR. Hope you enjoy them. 😊
Thank you! I hope so too!
Hope you achieve your goals this year. 😊
@@BasicallyNeda Thanks Neda. ❤️
Thanks for the shout out! I need to film myself buying 2025 goals video too. As you love Asian fiction maybe Sword of Kaigen would be up your street for a fantasy and an indie read. Not read it myself but I’ve owned it for like 2 years now.
@@SamHarrison2099 Yeah I have that one possibly in mind. I also have 5-10 others that I got for free on kindle a while ago
For those who like timestamps: Challenge 1 1:46 Challenge 2 2:07 Challenge 3 2:36 Challenge 4 2:55 Challenge 5 3:32 Challenge 6 4:23 Challenge 7 5:29 Challenge 8 6:09 Secret Monthly Challenge 7:15
Great Goals Tim! I also want to spend a good part of 2025 reading some more Michael Crichton
@@Already-Overbooked I look forward to joining you on that journey? What ones have you read so far?
@timburbagereads Not a lot: Jurassic Park, Andromeda Strain, Timeline and Pirate Latitude I am rereading Jurassic Park this month and going to try to read one book of his every month but we will see
@Already-Overbooked 1 a month! That's a lot! Jurassic Park is one of my absolute favourite films, and it was interesting to see what changes they made. I think I'm going to go for Congo or Airframe first, but I'm not sure
I also want to utilize my library more but I also also want to read more indie authors. The two don’t go hand and hand. Splitting the year in to thirds does make the goals all that much more attainable. Interested to see what books you pick up this year! Would love to read something together and talk about it on the internet.
I thought about putting in a readalong for every chunk, but it would require more work 😂 I am reading A Hero Born at the moment if you want to join in. *hint hint*
@ unfortunately Jan is already too stacked but maybe I can catch up next month!
@charlie-read-a-book yeah definitely. You can always catch the videos later. I mighy end up doing the whole series this year because I love it so much!
Very good review. Agree its too long but gives an interesting alternative view to the standard WWII Nazi stuff. Knew you would get the nuance of it and the relatability to current events!
@@craighatto thanks Craig! It's a book I would never pick up, so the mystery challenge definitely worked!
This is such a fun idea - was fun to follow along with it throughout the year as well
It was really fun! My wife did a great job!
Cool list Tim! Loved your thoughtful explanation for the Harry Potter books, which is a series we both adore and were the generation for. We've mainly avoided talking about them online for any great length. Happy new year to you and the fam from C&Y!
@@storytoob thanks Carlos and Yolanda. I had to edit out a lot of pauses as I was trying to say it right! It's a complex subject but it all goes away when I see my kids engage with it. I've just started reading Chamber of Secrets to the kids and they are loving it. Happy New Year and I hope your 2025 is a bit more....stable? 😂
@@timburbagereads that's amazing! And an experience we both look forward to as well... Someday 😆 Cheers! I bloody hope so... C
I love The Princess Bride movie!! I read the book and As You Wish which is a memoir biography by Cary Elwes last year. Love them all. I really need to read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell. I love the His Dark Materials trilogy. I know a lot of people don’t but, they’re some of my favorites. I also still love the Harry Potter series. I haven’t bought any of the books, movies, or merch new. I just buy things used from other people. I love Lord of the Rings! Basic or not. The books are extraordinary!!
@@Maeve_Ever_Books I read As You Wish as well and it showed what a fantastical life Andre the Giant lived. Thanks for the comment and also for being such a great member of the community!
Sounds like you had fun reading the. 😊 I also had fun watching you review them☺
@@BasicallyNeda thanks so much! How are your reading challenges going?
@@timburbagereads I had my 10 series in 2024 and I finished them by July. Probably why I ended up with a reading slump. lol I don't think I will do that this year.😊I did accomplish one book by a Canadian Author a month. Which I will continue this year. ☺
Will be adding to the tbr, thanks for sharing
Thanks for commenting ❤️ I want to try and find the rest of the series☕️
Oof, sounds like difficult material to work through. Not come across anything like this myself but yeah, that can make for an uncomfortable read. Hope you had something nice and warm and heartfelt to read along side it.
Thanks. I can usually read something in the context of the time period, but this was too far for me
I disagree about the eye of the world, I assume you didn’t finish WOT
I have only read the first one. I have the second one on my kindle and plan to read it in 2025
I will forever be reread ASOIAF no matter if Grrm doesn’t finish it (I believe he came out and said he won’t be)
I will forever be reread ASOIAF no matter if Grrm doesn’t finish it (I believe he came out and said he won’t be)
@@ladymairreads he has come out and said a lot of stuff 😂 Who is your favourite random side character?
Great top 10 and good job with the video!
@@TimmoUK thanks Timmo. It took over 3 hours to edit!!
Always lovely to see Jonathan Strange grace another top 10
@@hardysbooks All Hail the Raven King! 🐦⬛
I dont know if you've read them but if not, go get the two Kingkiller Chronicles books. They are my favorite.
@@mfsars1075 I have heard great things (more so about the 1st than 2nd) but nothing has really made me want to read them yet
I agree on The Song of Ice and Fire. Those books are special.
@@mfsars1075 they so are. It's a shame that everyone focusses on the ending (or lack of it) but they revolutionised the fantasy genre
I will respectfully (angrily) disagree with His Dark Materials, I'm still mad at that trilogy & it's been 6 years. The 3rd book was god awful & I will die on this hill
Isn't that what he said, basically?
@@mfsars1075 this is my wife 😂😂😂
@@LianneBurbage sorry!!! Do you want to do a Top 10 Isadora Moon books video?
@timburbagereads I don't think you could narrow them down to a top 10, too much joy
Great list. 😊
@@BasicallyNeda thank you so much Neda! This is by far the most editing I have ever done!!!
Mortal engines sounds so good. Thanks for sharing, seems like an amazing reading month.
I absolutely love it. The first series especially.
Some great reads here.

Great Review! ☺I got the audio book from the Libby App. Will listen to it soon.😊 Did you know that there is a whole series of these books. When I went to put a hold on it on the Libby App it gave me the other books in the series too.😊
