How do u can , preserve food?
I’ve been doing this as well. Making gifts for family and friends. Salves, tinctures etc. I’ve also started a community farm share which is bringing people together. The future is absolutely about community. Much love.
That's wonderful.. I completely agree xx
❤lovely, thanks for sharing❤
It's bee vomit
Thank you
So the mullien I use grows on my property, actually, I acquired several baby plants and relocated them lol. The tincture I made is a dark green. I was surprised to see yours was so clear.
@@keithstarnes7009 nice! I put all my plant material back in the jar after making the video to let it steep longer. I made it quick to show the full process!
এই জন্য তুমি খুব শুনদর
Love you, Channel. Thanks for uploading ur video' ✌🏻 ❤🏴
What about the oil staining the fabrics?
I have found that because there isn't much used and it's diluted, it doesn't leave a mark but if you were concerned, you could spray it on the actual pillow rather than the pillow case. xx.
I'm so glad I found you! Very impressed with your information, presentation and ease at which you share. You are a gem! I'll be watching more.
🙏 🙏
Nice unpolished simple video , keep posting &thanks .
Great video! Which specific alcohol do you recommend? I used Sky Vodka at 80 Proof on a micro batch I made last night. Do you have a recommendation for a high proof lower impurity option? Thank you 👊🏻🌻👊🏻
Hey, I don't recommend any alcohol in particular right now just because I want people to feel like they can jump into tincture making and use what they have on hand. I've used 80-proof unflavoured vodka for years to make my tinctures. Did you make a lemon balm tincture? Let me know how it turns out xx
@@documentingsimpleliving Thank you for responding! I think it did ok, but I won't know for a bit. I will update when It is ready and I am able to try it 😃
@@PorchGardeningWithPassion Nice, let me know! x
I thought there was suppose be no air in the jar because of possible oxidation
If the plant material is completely covered with alcohol, the tincture should be fine even if the jar isn't completely full.
found out yesterday, and i am going to buy some, thanks for the video and i am in the uk
Nice! Hope you like it
Tried today. Excellent.
@@Cadenrose4 great!
What is the brand of olive oil you’re using?
hey, it's Lyrakis Family olive oil (here's a link to it - I'm in the UK and not sure if it's available elsewhere) amzn.to/4ehiKEh
I've heard so much about this. Is alcohol the better was to get the potency from the berry? I want to make Elderberry for my kids what's an alternative? I am a new subscriber. I love what gig are doing.
Alcohol is the best at extracting the medicinal properties but you can use food-grade glycerin instead to avoid alcohol. I'd say for kids, maybe elderberry syrup though? You can make it in a day rather than waiting 8 weeks. Just don't include honey in the syrup if they're under 1 year old :)
What is Chaga tea and the benefits of it?
It's a tea made from the chaga mushroom - it's full of antioxidants and good for the immune system!
😢😢😢😢
Nice one. By accident i do this, after I make rosehip syrup (with honey) I have to admit, its more of a liqueur than a tincture. 😊
How to store it in the fridge?
I use a glass pyrex container
Cardboard and electricity.not safe
How long did you dry them for?
They can take 2-3 weeks to air dry fully depending on humidity and temperature. You can cut them in half and spread them out to make it go a bit faster.
Very helpful. Thank you 🙏🏾
How long do tinctures last? Do they ever go bad? I’m new to this, and planning on making many types. Thank you!🙏
Hey, so glad that you're getting into tincture making. Alcohol is a great preservative so if you strain off the plant material fully using cheesecloth or even a coffee filter, they should last many years. If you go to my site documenting simple living I have lots of basic recipes. Let me know how it goes! xx
Looks fun! I'm just not a cast iron cook. Thinking a stainless steel skillet would also work?
Hey, it'll work! No need to add oil or anything.
There are so many rose hips along the beaches in RI and CT you could go into business.
I like to use Dog Rose hips after the first hard freeze. This softens them up and then I crush and tincture them.
Great idea!
Don’t You will bring water - fresh flesh - into your preparation and it will go bad after a while. Don’t crush them unless you’re taking it within few months. Johanne Real Herbalist TCM Practitioner
Have you made any lotions? I'm struggling finding the best safest broad spectrum preservative.
I've made infused oils and body butters - are you trying to preserve wild lettuce? I find tinctures to be the best way to preserve the plant.
@@documentingsimpleliving got my wild lettuce brewing!
@@zoekellysyouniverse Nice!!
Lemon balm is also good for herpes
How do they form the Bea bread into the little pellets?
Hey, so the shape comes from the shape of the honeycomb. Bee bread is a fermented mixture of pollen grains, nectar, bee saliva, and honey. Worker bees collect fresh pollen from flowers on their hind legs and mix it with their saliva and nectar to create a dough-like substance and then the bees pack this mixture into the honeycomb cells and seal them with a layer of honey and wax!
I imagined that it was made then spread on to those silicone molds with this bee bread and then frozen or even dehydrated/ freeze dried. That would be interesting
Is there any expiration date to the tinctures with plant material? I once heard a well known Herbalist say y doesn’t matter how long it sits there in the vodka since it won’t go rancid. I have echinacea tincture that’s been sitting there for at least four years and haven’t used it.
Hey, alcohol-based tinctures generally have a super long shelf life if the plant material has been kept below the alcohol. As long as it has been stored in a cool, dark place and there are no signs of spoilage (like an off smell or mould) it should be fine!
@@documentingsimplelivingthank you!!
I ended up making my elderberry tincture with apple cider vinegar because of my grandchildren. I used dried elderberries. I have a couple more weeks before im ready to extract the berries. Can I add cinnamon sticks, cloves or honey to taste??
You could add the tincture dosage to a cup of tea or glass of water to dilute the taste of the vinegar - but if you want to add cinnamon sticks, cloves, and honey, I'd recommend making elderberry syrup instead of a tincture. Add the dried elderberries to a saucepan alongside the cinnamon and cloves (you can also add dried rosehips if you have some). Cover everything with double the amount of water you want to end up with and simmer until 1/2 the water has evaporated. Allow it to cool a bit and then strain it off and add honey to help preserve the syrup and to sweeten it. I hope this helps x
What dosing?
I like to take 1 dropper full per day 1-2 times per day during cold season!
How much dry berry did you use?
I used a pint jar and filled the jar 1/3 of the way full with dried berries x
I liked your video! Thanks for sharing
Not a great idea putting cardboard around electrical appliances. Could catch fire!
Thank you.
Is there alcohol in the tincture
Yes - you steep the elderberries in alchol (you can also use apple cider vinegar if you prefer)
Thank you for sharing
I hope you give it a try!
Drying the leaves starting today. When it is ready to use how much do you take and how often?
Great! I like to take 1 dropper full per day 1-2 times per day when I feel I need an extra boost or during cold or flu season.
You don’t have to dry your leaves to make a tincture. You can use the dried leaves to make an infusion or tea.
@@MySavingsAddiction True! I tend to dry mullein though because the leaves have a lot of water content in them but in a pinch you can use fresh leaves and a higher-proof alcohol.
Is this also called piccalilly
How long you keep leaf in
8 weeks
Could I not just sprinkle it over my dinner 😊
It’s best to use dried herbs in making tinctures as the water content reduces the alcohol in the tincture, so the shelf life is halved. Jennie from Australia
You can also use a high proof alcohol like everclear to offset the water content of fresh plant material!
I love this ❤ my starter is a rye flour starter I can't wait to try this and see what it tastes like, thank you ❤
I haven't tried it with rye - let me know how it tastes!
Do you put nibs in water first for the brownies or use thim dry?
I just add them right in!
Mullein really works. Mullein tea provides faster relief for sinus congestion and a tincture helps with long term relief.
Wild Lettuce tincture is a must have. It really works for pain and have experienced no unpleasant side effects you can get with some other pain relievers.
@@philipmikolsmusic Thank you. Can I use 100 proof to really pull out dried wild lettuce? Oh, do you fill all the way to top or leave space? I'm getting conflicting info on that. Thank you for helping me. I really want to know all this. This will be my first tincture.
@@zoekellysyouniverse I dry the plants for a day or two to reduce water content then finely chop them up. Fill the jar about eighty percent or so with chopped up plants and fill the jar with 100 proof vodka covering the plants until liquid is just below the rim of the jar. Put some parchment paper over the jar opening and screw on the lid. The paper helps protect the lid from the corrosive properties of the alcohol. Give a shake and shake it every few days for eight weeks. I like 100 proof because it is 50/50 alcohol and water which draws out both alcohol and water soluble components. Strain and use a dropper full or two as needed for pain. It will make some people drowsy.
@@zoekellysyouniverse First dry the plants for a day or two then chop then up. Fill the jar to about 80% or so with plants. Fill the jar to the just below the rim of the jar covering all the plant material. Put a piece of parchment paper over the opening of the jar and screw on the lid. The parchment paper helps protect the lid from the corrosive effects of the alcohol. Give it a gentle shake and store in a cool, dark place for eight weeks, shaking gently every few days. I like cheap, 100 proof vodka because it is 50/50 alcohol and water. This draws out both the alcohol and water soluble components of the plants. WARNING!!!! Tincture making is WAY too much fun and highly addictive. First you make one, then two, then four, then eight, then sixteen.......😁
@@philipmikolsmusic Thank you! I only have access to dried plants right now. Super excited to start this. So dried plants, 100 proof, 8 weeks? Correct?
@@zoekellysyouniverseCorrect and have fun
Just made some the other day!
So good to hear!
