Where did you get the boots? What are they called? It is the last thing I am really looking for in my kit.
They are Steger Mukluks. Best boots in the world. More Native North American than Highland Celtic but worth every penny.
Love you brother!!! Thank you!
Miss you guys. Peace Brother, until waiting is filled.
Anyway to do this without having to lay my kilt in the dirt?
You can do it standing up. Don't expect to get any resemblance to nice looking pleats, but you can get 15' of fabric to fit around 34" of waist.
You’re not located in Minneapolis are you? I’m very interested in your work and would like to see some of it. I tried on line and only found a “north wind supply” is that the same place? Hope you still check comments
We're in AK. We shut down during Covid and haven't really opened fully again. I just do one off pieces on commission now.
@ that’s to bad but i understand. I’m just looking for a knife sheath and a few other things and came across your channel and really liked your work.
@tone5158 what knife?
@@tone5158 the biggest problem with long distance sheath making is you need the knife to mold the sheath. I've bought quite a few knives over the years because of this. Some have been good choices.

This was super educational! Now I need a great kilt! Been wearing the half kilt for a year now, wanting to expand further and feel confident with your video!
Very glad to hear my video helped create another convert. I wear this one so much more than my others, I have 13 total. It's so versatile and comfortable. Enjoy your journey. Drop a comment after you get yours and let me know how you like it.
Really love the leather work. I would recommend trying the corona saw it beats the silky in everyway. Every silky ive seen is broken usually the first 2 inches. Love the 44 one of my favorites. Love me a wheel gun.
Yup, right where mine broke, 2" from the handle. I'll check out the Corona, thanks.
Videoed grom the Butte, been here. Pioneer on the right, Matanuska on the left. Really cool to see another Alaskan
One of my favorite places.
When making your pleates how many squares do you pull? You said you bring the lines together, but in-between those lines are one square. Do you pull one square or two?
There is one yellow line at the bottom of the fold. This shows on the outside of the pleat (if I do it right). So I am folding 2 squares.
Thank you 👍
You said it's 15 feet long, how wide is it?
@@josephbennett7057 about 60"
@@northwindhomestead907 thank you for your reply.
Nunber fives pleat good lord thats fine work.
@@Leaves.and.Legends that's a USA Kilts top stitch premiere kilt. It wears so much better than all my less spendy Kilts. They did a great job on that one.
@northwindhomestead907 ive got a box pleated campbell kilt from them. But the crisp and clean knife pleats look snazzy. I think I'm going less dress and more utility for my next kilt. Need to bulk up my numbers. One expensive kilt means I never wear it wearas if I have a dozen good kilts I can be sure to wear a kilt sometimes.
@@Leaves.and.Legends Truth. I bought a casual kilt from them and wear it very often. More than even my 5 yard one. The DNKE utility gets worn the most, but not out in town hardly ever. It's my yard kilt. Do need to sell it and get a smaller size.
@northwindhomestead907 lucky you! It's not lucky really it's the hard work. I'm needing to slim up to fit mine. I'm bulky these days again.
Ngl, this setup is perfect. I was just thinking of a way to make the filamor a more modern and easier to use type of clothes. To attract more people to the kilt. You are nailing, making it look snappy.
@@Leaves.and.Legends Thanks. I wear it more often than all my other kilts.
This is super cool! I've been doing a bunch of research of my own Scottish heritage and history, and although my lineage comes from the lowlands, i'd love to put something like this together for faires and LARPing snd whatnot.
Careful, it can become addictive very quick.
Your slip is showing.
Yeah. Saw that too.
So true on the leather competition. I hand stitch too. Theres no way to put out volume.. but the guys that know me pay well and love the hand made stuff!
Truth
We're all wondering the same thing about that kilt 🙄.
It's the garment I wear most often. Subscribe and check out my other videos about it.
It's cool 👍
Great kilts are the best.
Have to make fried green tomatoes!!
Never been a big fan. Perhaps I should give it another try.
Very cool, I've been looking for information about kilts as camouflage, and this has been one of the few resources I've found, very helpful thanks.
Have you found Tom yet? He has some great videos on this subject. youtube.com/@fandabidozi?si=bDA0qEXfuyKDh3Nc

Hello Keith
Hi
Hi Keith from Vested Interest.
Hi
Greetings from oklahoma! I also have a homestead, and wear a kilt as long as it is not snake season
No snakes up here, execpt for the corn snake in our house.
Even though I have no Scottish dna I got my first wool blend utility kilt from Celtic Croft. Just order a kilt belt for it & might get a sporran too for that ccw technique you showed.
I make those in house at NorthwindLeather@gmail because I couldn't find one anywhere.
The scottish were very fond of selling their plaid to anyone who had coin. So buying a kilt wearing kilts ir acceptable as long as you're not parading around like you're a scotsman mocking them, then you'll be accepted into the kilted clann, lol.
Great set up. Well crafted items. Question: Where did you find those two topographic tins? Those are very neat. One day I hope to build an all leather belt. Right now I am using a military Molly belt with Several pouches like yours but in canvas. Almost same set up of items though. Well done.
These guys have so much awesome stuff. Check them out. countycomm.com/collections/view-all-storage-products/products/industrial-strength-survival-food-grade-tins Sorry about the wallet, I've been through what your going to experience.
@@northwindhomestead907 much appreciated!

I heard that they laid it on a table to pleat and put on.
I'll have to give that a try.
Wonderful
Thank you! Cheers!

Love this video. What is the footwear?
Steger Mukluks.
Amazingly comfortable.
WOW you look fantastic!
Thank you so much
Beautiful 😊
Thanks. It's my happy place.
Where do you get such a long shirt?
It's from Townsend. Their 18th century linen work shirt.
That's a serious wardrobe!
It's grown since then too.
@@northwindhomestead907 Very, very cool.
Is it just me or does that look like red dead redemption?
Hmm so you only used about 3 yds of fabric? I believe you said 15 ft of fabric. I bought 5 yds thinking that’s what I needed 😂 far prefer the smaller amount especially with a cleaner look.
Also… EDC sporran is the best thing I’ve heard all year. I would love the details on that for my own highland wear.
I think it's 5 yards. Or close to it. Right about 15 feet, whatever that is in meters.
Thanks, I made it myself. I have been working on a how to video for it, still looking for a client to customize it for.
Loved this video. Got my first all wool great kilt recently and this is the most detailed video I’ve seen since I really started looking at how to really make it look nice.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had a great time making it.
Where did you get the concesl carry sporran? Id like to do that when i am legally allowed to carry.
I made it. Couldn't find anything online to fit my needs.

Lots of USA Kilts products here 👍 Are you a member of Kilts and Culture on Facebook?
Not on the Facecrook.
I do lurk the r/kilts subreddit
Great video!
Thanks.
Thank you. Well done Brother.
Very welcome. Thanks for watching.
Radishes are already being harvested. It's almost time for their second planting.
I like it!
Thanks.
I really like the way you fastened the upper part of the kilt to itself on the shoulder! Would a shorter boot lace work well to secure it before putting the brooch over the whole thing? I don't like putting unnecessary holes in clothing either.
I had a shorter one but right before filming that scene I realized I lost it. This piece was in my scrap bin and I was to task focused to cut it.
@@northwindhomestead907 Gotcha. I'm just trying to figure out what I have to work with when my great kilt arrives. I ordered one a couple of days ago, along with a plaid brooch and flashes, and I'm just doing all the research I can on various ways to wear it.
Oooooooo. I remember that anticipation. What tartan did you get? Where did you get it? I didn't go with flashes for the GK, I've been using garter ties. I felt they might be a bit more period appropriate. However, after using them for a while I really appreciate the ability to make them a tight or loose as desired. Have fun learning. I have photos of the first time I put the GK on. It was so bad. The more you wear it the verte it'll look. Thanks for watching.
Looking back at your original comment about the boot lace I thought of something. The piece of leather in using is unfinished and rough. The friction from leather in this condition helps hold the knot without having to tighten it aggressively. Not sure what boot lace you have but it might not offer this advantage. Leather cord like I'm using is super cheap. You can find it at Tandy leather or on Amazon. The boot lace might work fine or it might not, only experimentation will tell.
@@northwindhomestead907 Cheers! Yeah, I might buy some garter ties for a Highland wedding if my eventual bride approves it. I realise it's a bit anachronistic, but I got one from Scottish Kilt Shop (the only site I can really afford) in Clan Maxwell because my mum's family is a sept of theirs. I trust SKS's great kilts more than their modern kilts because I can pleat it myself with no sewing.
