    The Trinity is one. We do not confess three Gods, but one God in three Persons. the consubstantial Trinity.. The divine Persons do not share the one divinity among themselves, but each of them is God whole and entire. The divine Persons are really distinct from one another. He is not the Father who is the Son, nor is the Son, he who is the Father, nor is the Holy Spirit he who is the Father or the Son. They are distinct from one another in their relations of origin. It is the Father who generates, the Son who is begotten, and the Holy Spirit who proceeds. The divine Unity is Triune. The divine Persons are relative to one another. In the relational names of the Persons the Father is related to the Son, the Son to the Father, and the Holy Spirit to both.

      @aussierob7177 - Thank you for your comment here! Yes, I hope that the video was very clear about the fact that God is Triune, with the three persons of the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) all being in essence God, but separate from one another in a relationship we cannot fully comprehend. We denounce the heresy of tritheism while also denying the idea of modalism. Is your comment a clarification to our video, or a statement of agreement? Thank you! - Pastor Jordan

    That is the Catholic interpretation of the Trinity after they added the filioque which caused the Great Schism of 1054.

    • @homeportcc
      @homeportcc 10 месяцев назад

      @ri3m4nn - Thanks for commenting! In the filioque, which was not covered in this video, the western and eastern churches divided over whether or not the term "and the Son" should be added when speaking about the eternal generation of the Holy Spirit. While this is a very interesting theological debate, it is not in view in this discussion concerning the Trinity. This lecture, though it cites the Nicene Creed with the addition of the Filioque, is concerned with the basics of Christianity. While the Roman and Eastern Churches disagree on that phrase, the Creed as a whole is roundly respected by both organizations, as well as Protestant churches. Does that help explain our discussion of the Trinity? Thank you! - Pastor Jordan

      @ri3m4nn - Absolutely! I ought to have noted that the filioque was a dividing line between the East and West. The history of this split is very interesting, considering that the East and West were beginning to eye one another's authority claims for quite a while before this argument. I think that the filioque was the final straw for the Eastern Church in that disagreement. Lord willing, His Church will be united again soon. You seem to know this topic well, are you Eastern Orthodox?

    Actually desperation and ignorance makes people behave irrationally. Prayer is the product of desperation. It resolves nothing. If anything it only makes the problem worse because the faithful expect God to respond to fix the problem. Of course this never happens.

    • @homeportcc
      @homeportcc Год назад

      Hey @TboneWTF I have a question. What is rationality? To quote the Wikipedia article on Rationality, it is, "the quality of being guided by or based on reason. In this regard, a person acts rationally if they have a good reason for what they do or a belief is rational if it is based on strong evidence." Given this definition, prayer is a perfectly rational response to a certain set of circumstances. For example, if you are being held, awaiting your death, for a crime you did not commit, you would have no other rational recourse than to pray. To do nothing would be irrational, given that if you do not, there would be no chance of your prayer being answered. Here is a helpful Notre Dame article detailing evidence that God exists. I am sorry it is quite lengthy! I am praying for you, and happy to help with any questions you might have! Jesus died for the sins of His people, and you can be one of those people. - Pastor Jordan www3.nd.edu/~jspeaks/courses/2020-21/10106/PDFs/2-1st-cause.pdf

    Right, complete contradiction there. Jesus supposedly died for your sins. SO how can their be original sin? There isn't. You don't owe Christ or God anything.

    • @homeportcc
      @homeportcc Год назад

      Hey @shanehill2288 Thank you for your comment! I am glad you are so quick to pick up on this! Jesus did die for the sins of His people. But if there was not sin to die for, then why get crucified? We have ample evidence that a man named Jesus who was from the region of Judea was crucified by the Romans in the correct time period, and we know that the reports of His resurrection from the dead were too wide-spread and specific to be a hoax. Because we first sinned against God (Genesis 3), and God wants us to be saved (Genesis 3:15, Genesis 15, John 3:16) then it logically follows that only God can save us (Genesis 15, John 1). "Save us from what?", is usually the next question, which means you are way ahead of most people! God saves us from the sin that we desperately want ever since the Fall. We have free will, not to do whatever we might do, but to do whatever it is that we want most. And human beings, without the gift of grace in Jesus Christ, will always most want to choose sin over God. (Romans 1-3) Hopefully this helps clarify, and I appreciate your question! Keep asking tough questions, and you will end up right where I did, falling in love with Jesus and the truth that He offers. - Pastor Jordan VandenHeuvel

      @@homeportcc I appreciate the time and response. I'm not religious at all. Have studied many various religions over the years since my mom died when I was a child. The newer aged gospel teachings of christ meshes more with my train of thought. They believe no original sin, you owe nothing, Jesus took on that debt. They also have teachings about what he said to Doubting Thomas and he whispered into his ear, "that you are God, I am God, we are God, pertaining to the not owing anything but living your life as best as you can. I can't get behind Christian religions that say you are dammed unless you believe in Christ and our God, but various Gods and religions that predate Christianity are wrong and dammed?? Makes zero sense to me and want no part of it. Just be a good person, do for others more than for yourself and you will have nothing to worry about. If anything my God would be a God of empathy, acceptance and love. Not one of fear, wrath and vengeance.

    • @homeportcc
      @homeportcc Год назад

      It’s no problem at all! I always had a lot of questions about God and His message to us that caused me to pursue a Masters in Apologetics, which is just a fancy way of saying to answer tough questions about Christianity. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother when you were a child. The results of living in a sinful world are felt by all of us, but never as keenly as when we lose someone close to us. The problem with the new-age teachings about Christ is that their evidence for the things which they say that Jesus taught is not very convincing in terms of historical reliability. The Gnostic teaching that Jesus whispered something to Thomas is not included in any account written by Thomas or even close to the same time period in which Thomas might have been able to tell it to someone else. Sadly, it was customary at the time to write accounts in the name of a well-known figure in order to get your work noticed. This is known as Pseudepigraphy, and the New Testament that Christians hold to today has been thoroughly vetted to make sure that it contains none of this falsely named material. The issue that I think is most compelling to the case that the New Testament, and it’s teaching on Jesus being the only way to Heaven, is true over and against other religions is this; the crucifixion and resurrection happened. Almost no serious scholars deny that it at least appears as if Jesus lived, died, and was resurrected in some form. Therefore, if He can raise from the dead, it logically demands that we listen to what He has to say. We also know that the Gospels have been remarkably well-preserved in their original language to this day. With these two facts, we know that Jesus died and came back to life, and that what He said was accurately recorded. So, what did He say? Well, He makes it very clear that human beings have a sin problem (John 3:19-20), God loves His people (John 3:16), and that we must believe in Jesus to be saved (John 3:17-18). Human beings have worth and meaning because we are loved by God, but we also sinned against Him. Just a question to ponder, If God is a God of only empathy, acceptance, and love, how would we recognize that? We only get to see God’s mercy and grace because we deserve His justice. The new-age system of Christianity seems to make sense on the surface, but actually creates logical impossibilities or denies the existence of evil and pain altogether. You deserve a better explanation than that, especially after losing your mom. New-age philosophy cannot answer those questions, only coat them in half-baked truisms, and Atheism demands that you simply recognize that there is no good or evil, love or hate. It is all just a biological mechanism, a spark of life on a dying rock in the vacuum of space, hurtling toward a universal heat-death. I really want better for you, because you are obviously a smart person looking for the best answer. - Pastor Jordan

      @@homeportcc One can also argue that about the Bible in general tho as well. Written by men. Multiple times over. Even written over by the group that persecuted Jesus supposedly. Then again with the Council of Nicea. And not to mention all the omitted books left out of the Bible on top of that. I just know being a good person is all one has to worry about. If that isn't enough and you are supposedly dammed because of a non belief in 1 God, then that doesn't seem good or ok. Seems to go against the principals of Christianity, in fact. A far eastern religion that has been around a thousand years before shouldn't be deemed wrong and incorrect and those people aren't allowed into heaven. That's not right. Whose to say which side is correct. I'm a believer in science personally myself. Christians just so happen to believe in 1 God less than Atheists do. Was a solid way to explain that I had heard years ago. I personally do have issues with people bringing their religion into government, politics, schools, and medical issues. Big issues with the mega churches and those that are about money, seems evil if anything to me. Thanks for your time and convo. Seem like a great person.

    • @homeportcc

      @shanehill2288 Thanks! I think a good conversation between people who just want to find the right answer is always healthy! One of the things that kept me in the Church as a young man was actually the fact that the Bible is written by God through men, not just delivered down to us in some crazy ritual or something with no historical verifiability. Looking at how well the Old Testament in particular was preserved by the Hebrew people in a time where literacy was not globally important is incredible to me, and the New Testament that we have in our hands today is a collection of what we know to be original works by the authors that actually wrote the books themselves. Secular Biblical criticism has helped to establish that the Bible really is remarkably accurate in it's current 66 book Canon. If the Bible can be trusted as accurate, which I believe that it can, then it says some difficult things with evidence to back up it's claims. My point is that God really does desire that we are saved, but our salvation isn't guaranteed by being a good person. If that were the case, we would have to have an extremely clear understanding of what makes a person good. The Bible, if it is accurate, says that people will not go to Heaven by any other means than through Jesus. Of course this would include those people with faith in God that pre-dated Jesus. Looking at the far-eastern religions that you mention that are older than 1AD, Hinduism being the best example, they have largely abandoned the idea that human beings will go on to a "better place", instead opting for a largely circular view of time. Not to get too complicated, but you seem like a smart person, so I will explain what I mean here. Many of the "Eastern" religions claim that the world operates based on a system of good and bad actions which cause fluctuations in the world and in one's own personal Karma but which will eventually be smoothed out by the passing river of endless, circular time. This theory looked promising, especially considering that most secular scientists up until about 200 years ago believed that time was circular and that matter was eternal, following in the footsteps of Greek philosophers. However, more recently with the Big Bang cosmology thesis, science has corrected itself and said that the Universe has a single point of origin and will one day likely die out into nothing. While I disagree with exactly the manner in which secular scientists see this happening and with the end-point, I agree that it is scientifically clear that the Universe has a beginning point, which logically implies that the Eastern religions are founded on a deeply flawed understanding of the natural world. You mentioned that you are not religious. Would you identify as an agnostic/atheist or something else? One thing that motivated me to be a Christian is the fact that I get to ask the really tough questions and actually get satisfying answers that plagued me for years. I hope that you keep asking these tough questions, since I believe that getting to the truth is going to draw you to Jesus. I am enjoying this conversation! Thank you for being willing to have an extended conversation about these things! - Pastor Jordan

    Hello The gospel is the gospel of the kingdom! Jesus is going to return and set up the kingdom of God ON THE EARTH! God’s government ON THE EARTH! The Messiah died for his people! God resurrected the Messiah! The Messiah will resurrect his people at his coming! They will rule the nations! The destiny of the Messiah and his people is to be ON THE EARTH! The renewed restored earth! God also dwelling with them! Rev 21 Matt 24 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Jesus said the Father is the only true God! John 17 3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.

    I'm a LGBT Christian. Some would say I am "in the lifestyle", haha. But regardless, I just want to say I hope good things happen in your life.

      I pray for you that God would reveal the truth about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and it's power to deliver us from the grips of the Kingdom of Darkness. When things get bad, cry out to him and He will surely make himself real to you.

    how did the resurrection of jesus affect south africa?

    • @homeportcc
      @homeportcc 3 года назад

      I think all places on the face of the earth are impacted by evil and evil burdens the people all over the globe. The resurrection of Jesus affects South Africa because it brings hope that the evil we face in this world isn't forever or eternal, and because He is risen from the dead, Jesus will one day come back and wipe away all evil and take those who surrendered their lives to Him to a new heaven and earth to live with Him how it was supposed to be before evil entered the world.
