Clint, I love this set up. I want to do the same with my RX-8. was it difficult to get the auto transmission to work with the shifter/selector? Can the paddle shifters be hooked up?
EASY fix for the HVAC unit!! DO NOT REPLACE IT!!! Just take it out, take the chip out, and solder ALL the connections on the back of it!!! It will fix the A/C controls. Join the Rx8 Club and Rx8 Projects groups on facebook if you have any questions about it
I know you don't have this car anymore, but it's unfortunate that you conveniently covered the location of the check engine light with the steering wheel when you started up. It's hard to tell therefore if you really resolved those issues or if the CEL bulb is out.
I came across your V8 swap because I am interested in doing a similar swap except I am a Ford Guy and I am planning to use a 5.0L coyote engine and a 6R80 Ford 6-sp Auto trans with a custom Paddle Shift setup. I notice that you also used a Auto Trans but the Paddle Shifter wasn't working! So I was wondering were you using the Factory Mazda Auto Trans or the Chevy Auto trans? Mario Pizza. Ive been doing some research and I found (crate) Genuine GM (10067353) 350ci / 5.7L Gen 0 Engineby GM Performance Parts $1,509 89 on Amazon. Of course you would have to buy and mount everything else to the engine but I think I might do it.
Great Build! if you would of documented every wire, where each one goes to in the PCM, I think you would of made a sht load of money selling the PCM already married, just plug and play.

I have yet to find a person that did a swap that can give me a pretty close price estimate on the cost
Because they are embarrassed to let you know it cost more than a Corvette with a LS motor in it that handles better and is faster.
