The impetus for this song was the complete 180° they were suddenly being treated to by the music industry when record labels were pursuing them, desperately competing to land them. A year before they practically had to hold a knife to someone's throat just to get onstage at the sleeziest dive bars in town. Now they had all the major labels flying in, treating them to the finest restaurants and the purest drugs in all of Hollywood to get them to sign with their label. It got so out of hand that the band started making insane demands (that they really didn't want) but asked for them anyway just to see if the labels would agree to them. They would. That's when they knew it really was so easy for them.

This song was released in 1967. Max Baer Jr. who played Jethro on The Beverley Hillbillies directed and produced a movie about the song that was released in 1976. I remember having to go with my sister to watch that movie in the Summer of 1976 at the local Drive-In Theater that has long been shut down. You neeed to watch the movie. It is as haunting as the song is.

Dolores is doing a traditional type of singing called keening which is common at Irish funerals, and she was singing like this for the two little boys who died in a bombing, the bomb was hidden in a trash can and it blew and killed them both eventually that's why she says and their bombs 2 times in the chorus, she heard the bomb and she saw that two little boys died on the news so enraged she wrote this song, rip the amazing and talented Dolores O'Riordan.
