How Word Treats Footnotes that Break Over Two Pages
When you add a long footnote to a document, the entire footnote might not fit on the page where the footnote reference appears. In that case, Word continues the footnote to the next page. You can control how Word handles such continuations, as you discover in this Quick Tip.

Changing Text Direction in a Table Cell
You have saved me a LOT of grief!!!! The Google explanation wasn't working for me. THANK YOU for saving me time and TONS of frustration!!!
Glad to help!
👍👍👍
Super
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Thank you very much! 👏👏👏👍🙂
While it's true that adding a comma between stammered words keeps Word from flagging them as grammatically incorrect, a comma is itself still grammatically incorrect anyway. A dash should be inserted between-between words or phrases that get-that get repeated.
How about a global search and replace? Find Boo Boo no formatting and replace with Boo Boo do not check spelling and grammar.
Yep, you could do that.
Thank you so much
Can you select and copy your Boo-Boo that you protected from squiggles, put it in the Find box of Find and Replace, and replace all the squiggled Boo-Boos with the un-squiggled one?
You could do that, but you would have to adjust the formatting of the "Replace With" text so that the language checking was turned off.
Fantastic tips for authors while writing a manuscript.
Glad it was helpful!
I love your slow and clear instructions so the viewer can follow what you are doing. So many instructional videos move quickly through the steps without giving the viewer the chance to follow them.
Amazing!
Great explanation. Thanks a lot!
Does this work with JPG photos as well? I’m trying to put a logo on the page to print out on waterslide paper and I want multiple iterations of it.
I'm not sure I understand the question. If you have a page that includes one or more JPG images, you can print multiple pages per sheet. But, you are printing PAGES, not images.
Thanks!!
Thanks very much
I have a building block called letterhead. I type letterhead on the document and there is no pop up for it?
Thank you ❤
Thanks!!
Thank you, Allen, for this quick tip on graphics. Graphics and Multi-level lists have always given me a bit of trouble. I did purchase your recent offering on Graphics and how to work with them in Word but videos devoted to using graphics are very helpful. Might you continue this topic by creating videos using different graphic styles (e.g., in line with text (which is this one), behind the text, in front of text, etc.)? That would be great. But, you’re the director of your videos and you probably have many planned already “in the pipeline”! Thanks again.🙏🏼
Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you found this video helpful. I'll give your ideas some thought!
Thank you, can it be used to find text that does not match certain font. For example, if all text is in Times new roman, and another word having another font, arial for example, can i find this word in any other fonts that it's not TNR
Yes, you can do that. It is very powerful.
@@wordtips2907 how can we do that please
Thanks!!
These videos are even more informative than your excellent column. Thanks!
I'm glad you like them.
That's good. However, I had a ninety-page document. Your process means doing the same for each page. How can it be done unilaterally w/o the hassle of visiting each page?
Thanks!!
Thank you! Helped a bunch!
THANKK YOUU SO MUCHHHH
Hello, Allen: Thanks for these quick tips, which are very helpful. I never knew about holding down the ALT key to see precisely on the ruler where one is moving the Tab stop. That has always been frustrating to me, someone who wants a precise measurement. Now, knowing about the ALT key, I don’t have to open the Paragraph dialogue box, then go to the TABs box to set my Tabs. Thank you, sir.🙏🏼
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your tutorial, I wish the music in the background was lower, it is annoying
what abou tthe footer
Thanks!
Could you please write which keys we have to use? I did not understand what you mean😢
Thanks!!
Good morning, Allen: Thank you for this quick tip! I appreciate it. I don’t think this is currently possible with Word but is there a way to add this option (turning on/off highlighting marks) to the ribbon so that one can just click it without navigating to the Option/Display setting? Thanks again, sir.🙏🏼
Not sure I understand the question, Jay. I show in the video that turning the highlight on/off is possible to do currently in Word.
Thanks.
It seems to me that moving the words to the spike is less useful than copying them. It looks like the spike is LIFO, unlike a real physical spike which is is FILO. (Unless you take off the bottom holder and slide each word/paper off the bottom of the spike.) In W10, you can use the multi-copy clipboard more effectively do do more than what the spike does, except you have to paste what you copied/cut individually, but the clipboard does let you paste in any order and you don't have to put what you paste after new paragraphs. If you don't know about the multi-level clipboard, just press WindowsKey+V.
Word provides a multitude of ways to copy and paste information, the Spike being just one of the ways. People using the program should (as always) use the tool(s) that best fits what they want to accomplish in their editing.
Sooooo helpful!! Thanks so much!
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
These little videos, along with your column, have taught me more about Word than I even knew existed. You have made me a better user and script editor - thanks.
Thank you! That means a lot to me.
Thanks, Allen, for another very helpful tip about Character Counts in a document. As often is the case, though I’ve used Microsoft Word for years and have a fluent understanding of its many facets, I learn something new from your videos. Thanks again. Jay Creighton😊🙏🏼
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks!!
Under what circumstances would you want the "spiked words" REMOVED or CUT from the doc? I would want to spike a sentence or two from different areas of a doc to COPY them to another area. Is that possible instead of just "moving them? If so how? Thank you Allen.
The spike only cuts text; there is no way to copy to the spike. That being said, you can cut to the spike and immediately press Ctrl+Z. This "undoes" the cut, but still keeps the information on the spike. That is the closest way to achieve copying something to the spike instead of cutting.
Thanks!!
Thank you, Allen, for this quick tip. I assume, but do not know, that more than one word at a time can be added to the spike, i.e., instead of selecting “embed,” you could have selected the entire sentence in which the word was located, and add the sentence to spike for later “pasting”? Also, can you add text to spike and then “paste” the text in another document? Thanks again for this helpful, much lesser known, Word utility.😊
You can, indeed, choose more than one word at a time. (Sorry if that was unclear.) And, to the best of my knowledge, you can "spike" from one document to another.
Thank you too! Good explanation.
Thanks!!
Thanks, Allen, for the keyboard shortcuts of CTRL E, CTRL Q, CTRL R, and CTRL L. All the years I’ve been using Word, and a I never knew about these keyboard shortcuts, which save much time, especially when working with large tables in a document!🙏🏼
Glad they helped!
Thanks!!
