Elisabeth Schwarzkopf singt "Winterweihe" von Richard Strauss
So beautiful and elegant. Homooerotism and innocence combined in equal mwaure
Saw it in Los Angeles circa 2006, I think. Shattering! I couldn’t believe there’d ever be a better production of this opera, but the one at the Met… well, it more than competes.
Why no one thaught to film the David Hockney opera productions for posterity, other than the Rakes Progress, is beyond me. For God's sake it's David Hockney!
Romeo und Julia mit Marianne Kruse-GÖTTLICH!!!! Man habe ich geheult😀
Kevin haigen- Hamburger Staatsoper- wie geil! habe ich gesehen in jungen Jahren- mein absoluter Startänzer!!!!!!!
Als Armand in der Kameliendame mit Lynne Charles . Sooo wundervoll.

Went to see this hockney production at the royal opera years ago. Amazing
Geheiliget sei eurer Liebe Werk!
This series is one of a few jems on RUclips. Very beautiful ballet. I am so happy I came across this. Many many thanks!!!
Brilliant choreography and stunning solo performed by Judith Jamison.
Leave it to Hockney to stage a production of Die Frau ohne Schatten in which the colors all “meant something”.... Fans of the artist could do worse than examine this knowing exquisse, “What About The Caves” [1991], painted by the artist and for the artist, currently up for sale by Sotheby’s, which can be read as an inside comment on the production’s aesthetic: www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2019/contemporary-art-evening-auction-l19022/lot.31.html
Does anyone have an idea what recording this is from, please?
It's the recording by Wolfgang Sawallisch and the "Symphonie-Orchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks" (Bavarian Broadcasting symph. orch.) "Barak" sung by Alfred Muff, and the watchmen by Andreas Schmidt, Jan Hendrik Rootering and Kurt Rydl, recorded in 1987 (EMI, now Warner)
The last two minutes are so powerful and intense.
Yes, that's my favorite part, too.
yesss
Must see "The Colors of Music" (German: "Die Farben der Musik") the documentation of this Frau ohne Schatten stage by David Hockney. What a pleasure to watch compared with eurotrash Salzburg 2011.
A beautiful song, beautifully sung.
Sublime.
I come back this video every so often. I tear up every time I hear this music. Wonderful images also, Hockney would be a natural for this magical opera. Thank you for posting this.
Wowie, thanks again.I did see the Hockney tristan in 1984,nice swoop.
What a nice surprise, via Der Burger opus 60.Grazie! Heavenly!
wahnsinn...
In these winter days, now the light disguises itself, let us bear in our hearts and say confidentially to one another what fills ourselves with inner light. That which inflames mild ardor, should burn on and on; that which tenderly binds souls and builds ghostly bridges should be our soft password. The wheel of time may roll, but we hardly grasp it, forgotten in the glow of the world. On our island we would dedicate day and night to blissful Love. © by Emily Ezust,
There is a warmth in this performance that is unmatched.
This is one of the most dazzling and moving items I've ever seen!!!
